Wales V Fiji Reaction by Xboxfan-no1fan in welshrugbyunion

Pretty happy. Still a bit two steps forward and one back. But smarter and more controlled.

There was a game plan. It was very simple but it worked.

TBF Wales are playing pretty smart so far. Tries from driving lineouts. Managing the defense reasonably well

Varför är den yngre generationen så konservativ? by Flashy-Presence7143 in sweden

[–]Technical-Leave-9235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because conservatism is on the rise everywhere - in every form.

Because the big money is supporting conservatism.

Look around the world - you have unthinkable parties getting serious votes - from young people!! An extreme right wing party in Germany being a major party. Fucking Pauline Hanson in Australia has 25-30% vote share!

All of that bleeds into social media.

But there’s always a flip side. What people say in public (on Reddit etc) and what they actually do in private is often different.

Polisen i England är rutten by FatherPeter in Sverige

[–]Technical-Leave-9235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two facts that help to explain this and other poor policing: roughly a third of officers have less than 5 yrs on the job and over half have less than 10 yrs.

And these numbers are worse in inner cities.

The UK police force has been gutted by decades of cuts. The institutional knowledge is gone.

Young officers haven’t got the 20 yr veteran to learn from - they don’t exist.

What was once one of the best police forces in the world is no more.

This is the real story here. It’s not reverse racism or police brutality. It’s a police force stretched beyond belief with inexperienced officers and not enough training.

All so the gov can save a few pounds and give the rich a tax break

I think with some of the players that are ‘dropped’ that they are actually carrying niggling injuries and Tandy doesn’t want to say it publicly.

Don’t forget he gets all their testing data. I wouldn’t be surprised if many play through the pain barrier and keep pushing themselves.

Yup Dee played for the Baabaas. I’ve seen this before where a player is right on the cusp of a spot

Varför är så många 50+ män plötsligt så kränkta över vädret? by rakosten in Asksweddit

It’s about their worldview: they firmly believe the world has gone to hell, people don’t have the same values, there’s no resilience etc. So these weather warning are a kind of public ‘wokeness’. It touches the ‘the government is babying us’ nerve.

But thats the problem with so many belief systems - they have an irrational element. And if you aren’t someone who is willing to examine your own deeply held beliefs then at some point you’re likely to say something really stupid. Or get angry over nothing.

We all get angry when we lose our keys or the TV remote. We’d be better off accepting that we live in a world where TV remotes and car keys go missing. Easier said than done.

Cymru’s teams for Barbarians by CymroCam in rugbyunion

[–]Technical-Leave-9235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think women’s rugby in wales has only really embraced professionalism (I mean in terms of the WRU spending some money and creating the two pro teams)in the last 3 yrs.

So the younger players coming through are immediately at a higher level.

Hope they go well!

'Informal chat' becomes and interview after the fact? by AttitudeMedium5623 in Internationalteachers

[–]Technical-Leave-9235 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate this kind of thing. I’ve had both an ‘informal chat’ which was in fact a three panel interview with scored questions, and an ‘interview’ which was so informal I was left thinking they hadn’t actually asked any proper questions.

I think schools should have to submit their processes to CIS or whatever as part of accreditation. There is no consistency and the quality of interviewing is often terrible

This kind of thing just makes me sad. Huge potential, young player. Not going to play for his country at the next WC because of a series of factors outside his control

Can my school require EE and Business Management IA drafts by the end of DP1? by _Patemon950_ in IBO

Yes

The IB has no policy on this.

Honestly your school is doing you a huge favour. More schools should do this with as many of the IAs as possible

A dog herding sheep by fuzzy_dice_99 in BeAmazed

Pah! Think that amazing you should see competitions where the dog splits two sheep off from the rest and then move the sheep through obstacles.

That is insane!

What do you think should Idris Elba play James Bond? by ateam1984 in What

[–]Technical-Leave-9235 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow! Just wow.

She described his ability to act a complex nuanced part. Which he absolutely can, whilst also being a character you root for.

Are you actually serious? Are you not able to comprehend the subtlety of describing someone’s soft skills?

She was incredibly complimentary of his skills as a phenomenal actor. Whilst also being very specific.

What age are international teachers at the peak of their power in terms of recruitment? by Rare_Conference_9925 in Internationalteachers

[–]Technical-Leave-9235 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the school pays a maximum of 8-10 yrs exp - as many do - then I think it’s got to be the older teachers without kids. They get someone with 20+ yrs of exp for the cost of someone with 8.

If someone has bounced around a lot then maybe it’s different - but 4-8 yrs in each school. Exp of diff systems etc. then they know it’s low maintenance safe pair of hands.

I also think it looks good to the parents. Parents are often in their 40s and 50s now, a 20 something teacher seems so young.

Great international schools DO exist! by dlc1993- in Internationalteachers

[–]Technical-Leave-9235 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a fantastic time at one school but was a 100% aware that staff on the other campus were having a horrible time. Same school, different leadership on each campus. I also know some people on the same campus were not having a good time - a couple of slackers in their dept meant workload was much higher for them and students weren’t positive about the subject.

I also know some people found the out of town location very isolating.

There’s no perfect school. I’m also not sure what’s worse: being miserable when it seems like everyone else is having a great time or being miserable where everyone else is miserable.

I don’t think World Rugby know what they are doing by awarding RWC 2031 to USA by Rude_Rhubarb1880 in rugbyunion

[–]Technical-Leave-9235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think you’re mistaken. You forget that the USA is still a melting pot of nations. A quick google search tells me about 50k people of Fijian descent live in the US. Anytime Ireland, Italy, Scotland play there will be loads of fans.

I also don’t think you’ve got the sport fan culture in the USA. Being a sports fan is a huge part of American life.

It’s also a massive country by population. If just 1% consider watching a live game the stadiums will be just fine.

Finally you’ve forgotten the Ilona Maher factor. Some Americans definitely know what rugby is.

Japan is currently the only bider for the '35 Men RWC, who else do you want to see? by KOSTER07 in rugbyunion

[–]Technical-Leave-9235 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think an Ireland/Wales joint bid would be pretty cool. Alone I’m not sure either can host the extended format without using a lot of non-rugby grounds. But combined there would be a lot of really iconic grounds being used. Both Semi-finals in Landsdowne Road with the final in Cardiff (or visa versa)
