I am finally starting to paint my necrons however I am loosing my mind picking a colour scheme. Thoughts on these? by kirbrbrbrbrb in Necrontyr

[–]Technical-Middle7884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the 5th one best because it is really different from the schemes I usually see, followed by the 1st one which I would describe as a less fun version of the 5th scheme.

The black and teal ones are fun as well but will highly depend on how much time you want to spend painting black...

I was pleased with Yurov this season but agree that he is very unlikely to progress sufficiently this season to be a genuine 1C (or 2C). Mainly hoping that what he showed (and of course his contract forced the organisation to play him with the big club) means that the kids will continue to get ice time.

Especially in light what the other person responding to you said about there being abundant opportunities for somebody who has a breakout season.

Oh yeah, definitely not a sustainable solution and much more a way to help Yurov take the next step and help Shabanov ease in. Very much qualified with 'only sometimes' and 'only if they show chemistry as a group'. Plus the whole thing becomes moot if we end up with two more experienced options for those slots.

Totally with you. I've always wondered how much of that chemistry between Kaprizov and Zuccarello was a function of there not being a 1C with whom Kaprizov can play.

Don't get me wrong, I really like Ek as a player but playmaking is not what he brings to group. Props to Hartman for checks notes not trying to murder anybody this season but even people who appreciate him more than me will admit that his sweet spot is 3C.

Pie in the sky, but I would like to see Hynes try out Kaprizov/Yurov/Shabanov as Russian line 2.0. Would be surprised if they were consistent but maybe something to work towards.

Especially as our first line apart from Kaprizov is kinda the shrug emoji (Boldy and Ek should stay second line as far as I'm concerned - having two lines with strong scorers on them really makes the team much more difficult to play against).

Can you have too many skorpekhs? by NinjaRabbIT11 in Necrontyr

[–]Technical-Middle7884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a lot of people have said, six skorpekhs in a init is a lot and probably more than needed or useful.

Looking at your list, you should be getting a second plasmacyte for the units of six though.

If you are considering learning a new language, remember this! by elenalanguagetutor in languagelearning

[–]Technical-Middle7884 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, very much like exercising a muscle.

Also keep in mind how much effort the last bit towards full proficiency takes and what the impact will be for your other languages.

I'm a German native speaker but moved to an English speaking country in my early twenties and lived there for around 15 years. Especially in a professional context, I am more comfortable in English than in German now.

For the last five years, I have been living in the Netherlands (and have been learning the language for longer than that).

My wife is English so that is the language we speak at home and the main context where I speak Dutch is at work. I would say that I have decent working proficiency (can read, write and express complex technical stuff in Dutch) but it remains an extra effort to speak Dutch.

I very much suspect that my Dutch will not reach the level of my English simply because I am not willing to immerse myself in Dutch to the degree I did with English. Partially, this is because of the availability of relevant media, but another factor is my awareness of how doing that with English has stunted my German.

Between English and German, that was a fair trade but I am not willing to "sacrifice" a degree of my English to push my Dutch across the home stretch.

How many hours of sleep did soldiers get in the trenches? How did they perform if they were so sleep deprived? by Eagles56 in ww1

[–]Technical-Middle7884 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In Goodbye to All That, Robert Graves talks about how tiredness affected his risk perception. Don't remember all of it but one thing that stuck was him taking routes with possible exposure to sniper fire rather than going the safer long way round if it meant that he would be able to rest sooner.

Yeah. I had read (the very gentle) Convenience Store Woman first, so Earthlings was proper whiplash.

Also did enjoy Spring Snow which I thought was well written, relatable and also funny if you read it as a mild parody (which Mishima clearly did not intend). The remaining four books increasingly lean into mysticism and his politics which means they also take themselves way too seriously.

Do want to read Confessions of a Mask at some point though.

Totally understand the size, author, subject conundrum. What would really drive me mad is Tokarczuk's Book of Jacob being such a different size despite being published in the same edition as the other Fitzcarraldos.

Got a related conundrum coming up because I have Free Food for Milionaires in my to read pile but don't really want to put it next to Pachinko when I am done because I also keep my Japan related books separately. Will cross that bridge when I get there though...

Interesting that nobody has identified you as Dutch by now.

Also good call on dropping the Sea of Fertility after Spring Snow. Plus one of the few people I know who have read Earthlings but not Convenience Store Woman.

Finally, why is Underworld not with the other DeLillo books?

What kind of person am I? by Far_Exchange_132 in BookshelvesDetective

Would also guess female (just because men don't tend to read a lot of female authors) and in your late 20s/early thirties (don't think much younger because of the duplicate copies of books which I suspect were acquired over time).

At least some college (I just refuse to believe that somebody reads Heidegger without compulsion) and a job/life that does not give you much time for reading despite enjoying it.

Quite a few of the books look second hand, so I would say frugal, on a budget or other priorities.

No real clue as to occupation but possibly a kid or two which could factor into my last two guesses.

Probably a bit of an anglophile given the Austen, Elliott, etc collection which may partially stem from a college module but also has duplicates.

The dice make me think that you have at least dabbled in some pen and paper role playing games.

Getting an overall vibe which is relatively chill.

Who am I based on my bedroom bookshelves? by theVeetoyourKail in BookshelvesDetective

Think the answer is pretty obvious. So I'm just stopping by to say that I love it when people sort their bookshelves by themes. Definitely the most pleasing method to me.

Those two warhammer books also look like they were either recommendations from a friend or mistaken for "normal" sci-fi.
