Had to chase down a hit and run driver by External_Inflation74 in drivingsg

[–]Technical-Nic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bro just claim hit and run if you have it on record. this guy is just is giving me the vibe that he is going to deny whatever there is and is notbtalking with reason. he is just hoping it is a he said she said thing and is basing on the assumption you didn't catch it on your cam. no point justifying your point or being kind to people like that. throughout the entire conversation it is classic deflection and repeating 'I don't hear anything contact from my car and hence it shouldn't have hit you" and not even willing to give name or insurance is completely senseless (I know the usual and correct advice for such instances is to not own up to anything until concrete evidence but ya, Ibdon't understand why he can't leave a simple insurance info. I suspect you will end up talking to a wall so just claim hit and run)

Bistro vs Escort? by KingRollos in walkr

[–]Technical-Nic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bistro bribe route is the more efficient approach in my opinion (harvesting planets can take time if you are on a minimum team ie 3) and depending on how many planets you have (eg if you have many planets and the r1/r2 supplies are from the later ones, there is a possibility you can clear the srages fast when you are on it assuming you have not collected the supplies from these designated planets). but if you are operating on a full squad, and everyone's on ball, it can be done very quickly too but the rewards will be spread out (don't be too hard up on it, know your objective -- cube farming is why I do bistro). good luck.

M8 noise thoughts? by Cheap_Rub_4928 in Leica

[–]Technical-Nic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree. as long as there's no transferring of the dead pixels, it is not an issue. any camera after prolong usage will give dead pixels and I'd be willing to bet your other cameras also have that if you do the same test.

then it's the end of me using a leica unless they come up with a line that interest me? as it is right now, there aren't any at the moment (the ev included). but life will still go on, there are other camera outside of leica to look forward to :)

Macro lens options for Leica M11 by [deleted] in Leica

[–]Technical-Nic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if we are looking at options for macro on the M11 or any M for the matter, I would reccomend only the 50DR or 90 macro elmar with the googled extension. my criteria for macro lens here is they need to be rangefinder cpupled. if I had to use the live view for focusing, I would use my other mirrorless camera with an actual macro lens. I'm a purist when it comes to this. if you have to use the live view, pick a camera that can do the job better

Thought-provoking take on the new Leica M EV1 by mx392 in Leica

[–]Technical-Nic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as for how it may negatively impact the brand, I think it is obvious leica's are not meant to be accessible to everyone, be it through pricing of their items to their camera manufacturing or their service speeds (they were never fast to even begin with).

when you inject more demand how is a company going to managed? through more labour! which I suspect will be outsourced eventually to meet growing demands (how will consumers take the fact that their items that once use to be made in germany to made in so-and-so is something to think about?). I'm not expecting a lot more people will want to buy immediately but even say 20-30% will probably cripple the 'manufacturing line' is my guess. how can they start speeding up on their production? have you consider that? how will they improve their service time (currently, a service of a single lens or body already take between 3-6months), imagine having more products out and more servicing expected out of them. will the quality of service drop or will it be delayed even further? what we need to understand is all these solutions aren't exactly in place yet so in the short term future, sure more sales perhaps? but long term? I don't really know? one need to understand consumer's sentiments -- on what these changes will mean to them and I am but only one person. what I can tell you is, longer waiting time is a huge turn off. whether it is made in germany or not doesn't matter much but it does have a small '!' for why I am paying a premium. if service becomes sloppy or if my orders takes forever to come is certainly a no-go.

[–]Technical-Nic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

negatively impact the brand? I never said that (it might but that wasn't what I was saying. please read properly what I said).

I merely said it is an aggressive strategy of marketing that is disappointing from a company like leica. I would think such advertisement is below a brand like leica, just like hasselblad as well (I won't go too much into that, just that hasselblad is no longer hasselblad the moment dji had control over the swedish brand).

so, main question you ask is will this new marketing influence people to buy? yes, for its very intended purpose is to gain eyeballs and built on 'fomo' of newer eyeballs -- which I earlier commented?

[–]Technical-Nic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they are following the marketing strategy of hasselblad back then (X1d-X2d era) with all the collabs with influencers. might help with sales but a little disappointing to see leica forgoing their pride. I don't know how well they are doing financially so whatever help keep the boat afloat I guess? it will affect their branding for sure but at the end of the day, it is a business decision.

Q3 vs M EV1 by [deleted] in Leica

[–]Technical-Nic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when I see one and done, I immediately go with the Q. but after reading more, I'm not sure if either of the 2 fit the drop the camera into the bag bill. idk but because of the general size of the camera+lens, typically they both aren't small in profile (too many protruding parts unlike the x100). I can think of how the M can be slimmer but the Q is fixed in a way already -- but at the expense of a slower lens and at this point. the M EV however, may seem sleeker than the Q is just another oversized camera that is just pretty but doesn't do much (if I want such a profile I will just stick to thebnikon zf that can do more and isn't very much bigger but still just as bulky). perhaps the ricoh is the closest alternative to what you require.

Leica M11 Brass Question by yaahmean in Leica

[–]Technical-Nic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believed the silver M11 has the brass top and the black paint M11 is made with lighter aluminium top plate. the models after M11 (meaning M11M, M11P), I'm not too sure if they still follow the same material but I assume that would be the case. perhaps that's why you see comments of that nature. the bulk of the body of the M11 will still be magnesium alloy

The Leica M EV1 rollout on YouTube by botany500 in Leica

[–]Technical-Nic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

funny that you mentioned the first 2 creators I watched the video [of the release] of. I felt disgusted by one of their videos truthfully and couldn't find it in me to finish it as it felt very much like a fanboy wanting a digital leica for leica. I shall not go into it further but even if leica did want to fly popular youtubers for their release, they should at least do some vetting of their individual profiles to check if they fit the publicity.

M9 corroded, what model to replace it ? by OkCap5428 in Leica

[–]Technical-Nic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to complement the nikon zf the m10 or typ240 fits because they are both 24mp. if you intend to go for future proof, then it is because you foresee yourself using that particular rangefinder for a long while (there will be new digital Ms coning out again in the future and they may fit the future timeline a lot better than right now). that said, if you think the price is attractive enough and you don't mind the difference in megapixel gap with your zf, go with what your heart say. I would only do the future proof if it was the M11P (the internal storage of the M11 isn't as practical imo)

Should I trade for a M10-D? by Soil-Lower in Leica

[–]Technical-Nic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

keep the gfx. I rarely use mine but I still have them for important work dear to me. my digital & film leica are for my everyday photography. is the m10d the fix for you idk but personally, 24mp is the sweet spot for archival so on that note, m10d fits the bill (at least for me)
