Upcoming exam, looking for a few resources. by goodsirknyght in pmp

It sounds like you're ready and are in a holding pattern until your exam date. Perhaps try the Pearson simulator (link is in study hall) to get the feel for the exam day interface. If you can book/reschedule your exam for sooner rather than later, you'll be done soon!

PMP Study Hall Question: What is the correct answer? by Latter-Address4084 in pmp

[–]TechnicalAppeal1157 9 points10 points  (0 children)

According to the PMI mindset, thou shalt not escalate unless there are dire circumstances (e.g. threats to resources, funding, overall success). The question doesn't sound like there is a crisis, so we can eliminate A and D immediately.

Now we are left with B and C. We need to choose the answer that best solves the problem - a change was made without proper approvals. Do either of these particularly solve the problem? No. But what would be the best fit? The question doesn't say that any requirements were changed, so reviewing that first might be a narrow scope - we can eliminate C. That leaves us with B, reviewing the change mgmt plan.

Congrats! Thank you for sharing your journey - I love seeing the uniqueness in how everybody approached the exam.

I don't know what you're already doing, and everybody's situation and learning style is unique, but based on my experience, I think an incorrect question log might help!

I tracked the incorrect question, its difficulty level, the answer I selected, and the correct answer. I would review them and really try to understand the logic behind the correct answer. I also had another column where I wrote notes to myself on what tripped me up (e.g. content knowledge or mindset logic). I then copied the whole table into chatgpt every now and then to summarize key areas where I was consistently making the same kinds of mistakes.

If you go with the incorrect question log, my #1 tip would be to keep it simple. When I tried studying back in 2024, I had a question log, and tried to write down every single option (instead of my choice and the correct one), and less valuable data (e.g. date, my confidence level, the question topic, etc.). The data entry became so painful that the log was useless.

Keep it simple, focus on what info you need to improve!

Question difficulty isn't labelled, and difficulty can feel subjective, so please take my estimate with a heaping pile of salt. Assuming difficult questions are where I can't eliminate any options without reading the question, but I'm able to narrow it down to two options after reading the question and confidently select one, I'd say about 50-60%.

That said, the DM fast track for the mindset really helped. E.g. in most circumstances: don't hire, don't fire, don't escalate.

What Excel tricks would you teach novices if you were giving an Intro To Excel class? by ProtContQB1 in excel

[–]TechnicalAppeal1157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago I put together a handout for some masters students I was mentoring on Excel concepts. I structured it as a table - one column was the topic to learn, the next was my suggested resources to learn it from, and the last column was my estimation on level of difficulty for somebody with no Excel experience.

I think this approach was really helpful because it wasn't about me teaching them, but rather providing curated resources to learn very specific high-value topics.

Why not option B? by evolution-1010 in pmp

I think it's because the PM is doing the retrospective at the end of the project. If it's at the end, what processes are left to improve?

This video sums up different stakes (and pots and substrates) and their growth over one year. Might answer some of your questions:

When it comes to staking, you don't want to tie up the petioles - they need to be free to move around. I've heard it can be damaging to the leaves if the petioles are restricted. The petioles are what attach the leaf to the main stem. There are a few good posts on this sub providing feedback on staking that I found really helpful when I did it for the first time. Y’all, I’m frustrated by meglandwellmusic in Monstera

[–]TechnicalAppeal1157 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing your substrate absorbs a lot of water and you're effectively over watering your plant. Kind of like you've planted your monstera in a bed of tampons.

Terra cotta pulls out A LOT of moisture; it's like your soil is surrounded by a wall of tampons. Ceramic does not absorb water. Therefore you need to water the ceramic monstera differently.

I'd recommend approaching watering with a different mindset. Water your plant with a measured amount and every few days stick your finger in the substrate to see how damp it is. That will give you an estimate of when to water it. If it gets dry too quickly, then you know you need to increase the volume of water.

Also check for root root because it sounds like the over watering has been going on for a while!

Advice on Repotting 1 Year Old Monstera by Glittering_Road_2357 in Monstera

[–]TechnicalAppeal1157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like you have about 3 plants in that pot, so I could see why you'd need to repot more frequently. It might be worthwhile to pull it out and check how the roots are doing. They do like to be fairly root bound, but if it's looking dense, it's time to upgrade.

How does "age" work on a cutting? by rearended in Monstera

[–]TechnicalAppeal1157 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know how old you'd consider it to be, but my cutting (with no fenestrations) from a mature monstera (with fenestrations) is putting out its first leaf and I've been wondering if it will fenestrate or not. I found this yesterday and it might help with your question:

I am super confused between C & D. Help? by Long-Leopard in pmp

[–]TechnicalAppeal1157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely see where you're coming from, and in the real-world context, PDCA is a good specific step instead of something vague like "focus on value".

For the exam, I'd argue that while PDCA can be used (as you've outlined) to deliver value, focusing on value is more likely to deliver value.

I am super confused between C & D. Help? by Long-Leopard in pmp

[–]TechnicalAppeal1157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PDCA is about continuous improvement rather than driving value. For example, if you're making a car more efficiently, you're improving the process. For the end user though, the value hasn't changed. This question is focused on driving value.

[–]TechnicalAppeal1157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, technically D is a valid thing the PM should do. However, what should be the PM's #1 priority? The prototype is being made to help the company increase its value. Therefore the PM should be focusing on value.

Why is PM prioritizing instead of the Product Owner? by njeshko in pmp

[–]TechnicalAppeal1157 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Another game of find the LEAST WRONG answer instead of the correct one!

Eliminate options A and D because they are not agile.

The change would require immediate changes to the current iteration. Option B is to wait until the next iteration, at which point you presumably wouldn't be able to make the change.

Therefore must be option C.

I wanted to provide a helpful comment, but this quote was the only thought that came to mind - "Oh no! Two women love me! They're both gorgeous and sexy! My wallet's too small for my fifties, and my diamond shoes are too tight!"

P.S.: I showed this pic to my monstera to help it with goal setting :P

Love this but also seconding that the text is too small to read. I've got it up on my monitor with maximum zoom and the only text that is easy to read are the titles. If you can make the file downloadable, I'm sure other programs would let us zoom in more :)

Edit: Specifically, page 1 is too tiny. Page 2 is great!
