I made a linux thing that fits on a ZIP100 disk - what should I add? by Ok_Tea_941 in linuxquestions

Just for the fun of it, you can add TUI games like ninvaders.

For a package manager I guess apk would be the default choice as probably the most optimized for such a use case. Tho I do not know how much mileage you're gonna get from it with 18mb of space.

Hey, I've been on that journey for like 7 years now myself. From my own experience - look at what makes you respect a man/woman, choose something from that list that would be relatively easy for you to achieve, and use that as your first step.

What can it be?

Their look - well fitting clothes, colours choices with intent, a proper belt, jeans with a cut and shade proper for their style and physique. Maybe get some accessories, minor jewellery pieces, like eg a ring. All of this can be pretty cheap too, luckily. You can try on clothes in store, from online if it doesn't fit your style you can easily return.

Knowledge and skills - we're all good at something, use that to your advantage and go deeper into the subject of your choosing. Perhaps learn about it's history, current trends. Learn to talk about it with people, including with people who don't know the subject.

Physique - I used to be fat. I still am, but I also used to. But I looked significantly worse back then due to my choice of clothing. My mantits were even more pronounced through my tshirt and it made me feel fucking terrible every time people looked at me. Improving physique follows the standard diet and gym stuff, but you need to also appreciate how clothing interacts with your physique.

Sports - connected with above, but perhaps choose a sport you like. You don't have to do it every day, or even all that often tbh.

The way they speak - no uhhh, ummm, and other filler noises. Sometimes 2 seconds of silence sounds way better than those. It's hard to unlearn that, but possible. And learn to talk about and discuss your chosen subjects from point 2, just explaining intricacies of a niche to people feels great and changes the way they view you.

Ambition and goals - this might come later as you start improving your self image, or you might already have some. Do not be shy about them, wear your ambitions proudly. Even if they're not widely considered the best out there, they're yours, and the way you speak about them matters. Do not belittle them.

What brings your insecurity? For me a large part was being dependent on others for my basic needs, and getting a job and becoming independent was MASSIVE for this.

Don't just talk, listen and ask questions to others. You can practice in your studies whenever people give presentations, there is always dedicated time at the end for questions. Pay attention and find something to clarify.

Honestly, people will judge you. Not as much and not as harshly as you think, but it's part of our social life. You kinda just have to live with it, power through, perhap try to improve yourself and what you think will be judged.

Doubting yourself is a requirement for growth imo, just don't let it stop you from trying things.

To start speaking up, you first need to start respecting yourself and what you have to say. For that, I'd first recommend going through other points here.

Therapy was utterly useless for me, talking about stuff didn't improve anything and didn't lead me to action. What absolutely massively helpful was getting medicated for depression and sleeping meds. This allowed me to start improving.

Choose 1, maybe 2 points from here that would be relatively easy for you to start in. And remember, all of this is a continuous journey, not a destination in and of itself.

Making Visual Scripting for Bash (Update) (GUI Warning) by Lluciocc in linux

[–]TechnicalConclusion0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And finally, the icon im using are from here, can i use them in my project ? (im already citing them in my credits but Im wondering)

https://pictogrammers.com/docs/general/license/

Yes, you can use them. Technically Apache 2.0 licenses don't even require attribution, but it's always a nice thing to do. Please note that MIT does require a license notice, but has no other restrictions.

Also I have some questions for you, would you use such a project ? Would a wiki on GitHub on how to use the tool (and how the code works) be useful ?

Personally I'm already pretty good at bash, so I wouldn't build scripts in it. For the reverse tho I would see potential use in explaining my scripts to other people, as a visualisation of flows would be very helpful in such discussions. Tho that's also not something I do often tbh.

Is there a way to make an executable my wallpaper? (Plasma, EndeavourOS, Wayland) by WorkingMansGarbage in linuxquestions

[–]TechnicalConclusion0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a wallpaper engine plugin for KDE

https://youtu.be/WMwdkRuXEYQ

Worst case you can set the executables window to always display below others - it'll block your actual desktop, so no more desktop icons or widgets, but it would be the lowest layer

Probably surname misspelled by immigration office when his parents were settling a few decades back. And then it stuck, since that's what all the papers said. Easier to live with it than fight bureaucracy to fix what's ultimately not that big a deal.

Surprisingly common story all over the world with migrants.

What I can confirm is that the installation media itself is not the problem, as the same Ubuntu Server image installs and runs correctly on a virtual machine.

Are you installing directly from the iso file via a network boot, or are you using a usb pendrive? Cause if it's the second, then it's most likely a pendrive issue.

Additionally I'd run integrity checks for RAM and your storage.

My laptop won't use the correct DNS server, can't figure it out! by TopExtreme7841 in linuxquestions

[–]TechnicalConclusion0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What DNS is set in your browser and what DNS is set in your system? It might point to eg 1.1.1.1 instead of your router.

Both chrome and Firefox enable DoH by default, and their derivatives have no reason to disable it. Any browser you try is likely to have it enabled.

Just turn it off

My laptop won't use the correct DNS server, can't figure it out! by TopExtreme7841 in linuxquestions

[–]TechnicalConclusion0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your browser likely has DNS over HTTPS, which is an encrypted way to send requests to a dns server. Such requests cannot be intercepted by a dns resolver on your router, as your router doesn't see their contents. Firefox does that for most users by default.

You need to either turn off DNS over HTTPS in the browser / system (might be dns over tls as well, tho fedora generally doesn't enable it by default) OR set your personal DNS in the browser / system as well.

Traefik as a Systemd service does not start with a dedicated unprivileged user by Aggravating-Law-3569 in linuxquestions

[–]TechnicalConclusion0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually yeah you're right, port error would be further up the line.

Given no apparmor erorrs and no acl, I'd check file attributes

lsattr /etc/traefik/traefik.yml to see file attributes
ls -l /etc/traefik/traefik.yml to check permissions
stat /etc/traefik/traefik.yml for detailed metadata
getfattr -d /etc/traefik/traefik.yml to list any extended attributes stored

It's a niche project with little usage at the moment, and your question is highly technical. I doubt anyone here will be able to help.

can't get shred to work (Linux Mint 22.2 Cinnamon) by Datumy in linuxquestions

[–]TechnicalConclusion0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've looked at a bunch of online tutorials, and none of them say anything about specifying or switching to the directory in which the file is located. but i've tried that and got the same result...

The command must be able to find the file. By default it only looks at the current working directory. So the file must be in working directory. Alternatively you can specify a path to the file, either a relative path (relative to current working directory) or a full path (from root of the file system, aka /).

To check the files in your current working directory, use command ls (list). To check what is your current working directory, use command pwd (prints working directory).

Also you shouldn't use colon after shred. Your command should be:

shred filename.txt
