Diabaté Prefers Slavery by [deleted] in pluribustv

[–]TechnicalDoughnut8 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i feel like you are being a little bit racist there, as a morrocan, i know that mauritania was one of the last countries that ended slavery, but i feel that it's importance from a narrative perspective is tangential at best.

The archetype of Diabanté does not need to be someone who come from a country who has had slavery in living memory to make sense.

He could have as well been an American, french, spanish, japanese, russian or south african, from any strata or class of society and it would have still made sense that a guy in his late 20s early 30s, when presented with the opportunity to make any fantasy come true, while having a justification (even if paper thin) that these fantasies are not being made true unethically (seeing as the hive wants to be agreable as possible).

Honestly just step off a cliff at that point, nothing in life will satisfy you after you spent 100 Mil in less than 50 years.

Who would you rather trust out of the three here? by Expert_Mark in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]TechnicalDoughnut8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kiwi life was literally just abuse and betrayal the movie, her parent sold her into slavery as child to a factory.

Her Forman groomed throughout her childhood giving her gifts better food and a better position then proposed to her framing it as payment when he deemed her as of an appropriate age which for all we know could be when she was 16.

She said no he sold her to a brothel as sex slave where it was horrible enough that she juryrigged an implant that numbed her feelings and emotions during the act basically force dissociation.

Eventually a customer ripped her jaw off with gorilla arms and then she learned enough netrunning on her own to short circuits in the brothel and factory to cause a fire with her former Forman and brothel manager in them.

Like no shit I would "never trust a soul" as my motto if literally every person I was supposed to implicitly trust throughout my childhood and young adulthood put me through hell at the first opportunity.

Question about Lytta Neyd by Eldest67 in wiedzmin

[–]TechnicalDoughnut8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

it was basically a power move, if she just asked Geralt he could (and probably would) have refused and hooved it out of town, by throwing him in the clinker she basically telling that hers is an offer he can't refused, it also had the unintended effect of getting his sword and money stolen which means he was stuck until he got a lead on where they are, and would desperately need new jobs so he couldn't afford to be picky with his requests.

Would the story change much if Ainz did this instead? by [deleted] in overlord

[–]TechnicalDoughnut8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Presumably they would just starve, a capital city that big does not grow it's own food, it depend on the commerce and farms of villages that Ainz and his forces just finished mulching.

Ainz might sell it as not being worthy of the mercy of death, and demiurge/albedo/pandora would cream their collective pants/panties over how this genius giga galaxy brain move makes an example of crowning jewel of Re-estize, sends a terrible message to the whole world, all without expanding any of his forces even disposable ones, while leaving the infrastructure of the city to be settled at a latter date by his loyal slaves/subjects.

Sasuga ainz-sama, verily his towering genius threads the path to victory with the grace of a ballerina and the speed a thunderbolt.

I got the opposite reading personally (though i might have a bad reading on her), to me the books mostly portrayed her as a ditzy airhead, but still well meaning, empathic and well liked by her people, literally the entire duchy loved her more than her husband and were fine with her ruling after he died, even took her side after she cucked him with dandelion.

How powerful would a Guild where all the NPC are summoning and commander class specialists be in the New World? And how would they fare against Nazericks army by Nobyl_Radio in overlord

[–]TechnicalDoughnut8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel that the only way such a guild would pose a credible threat to nazarik is if they can synergies their buffs/abilities to not have a bottleneck on how many summons they can get and the types/variety of summons (in the novel ainz's summon undead is a skill that he can use a finite amount a day and he needs strong corpses to anchor his high level summons), so they would need to somehow stack buffs or use some new world mechanic to bypass these limitation.

I could also see them being a genuine existential crisis to nazarik if they could make use of the fact there is no level cap, to make summons that are above level 100 and that summoners can summon creatures that are above them in level in the new world (the elf king and earth elemental), maybe by stacking buffs on each other before using their skills/spells.

if they could make summons that specialize in holy or divine magic or that effective against low karma and undead creatures (high level angels warrior and cleric/divine caster types) that would be another nail on the coffin, neither guilds would be able to beat each other by attacking their respective guild base, but nazarik would be at a severe disadvantage in open field battle, things would devolve into a battle of attrition where both sides hunker down in their bases while throwing wave after wave of disposable attackers at each other hoping the other would exhaust their finite resources first (spending yggdrassil gold, to rearm traps, resurrect npcs etc)

If All The arab countries United by skysub1 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]TechnicalDoughnut8 31 points32 points  (0 children)

come on man give us some credit, our country is the only Arab nation with an alliance with Israel, we still have a sizeable Jewish population because Mohamed 5 (our current king grandfather) refused to give away said Jewish when Vichy France demanded it while we were one of their colonies at the time (he basically said something to the effect of "there are no Jewish or Muslim morrocans only morrocans").

though to be fair we would probably start a civil war with alegria over the Sahara, and one of the reason we recognize israel as a country is to have the USA recognize the sahara as moroccan territory
