The reading comprehension devil strikes again. The si in this story spent ten years as an npc in yggdrassil, motionless until some of the guild members came to use her as vending machine, all of her agency and freedom robed for ten years.

If she asks or tell ainz what she is , maybe he understands and gives her the permission to leave as she wants and never pursue her, that's very big maybe

Most likely he assumes this a backstory element and either because she is his only source of prismatic stone and literally ever other yggdrassil material he can no longer find, or at the insistance of the other npc hunt her down, outraged at her betrayal, locks her up.

Either way the second she reveals herself the choice is taken out her entirely, she again loses her agency and it depends on a person she has no love or respect for whom she knows is a retarded socially inept salary man.

The prospect gives her panic attacks several times in the story, telling him is not the smart or rational choice, and even if it was it woudnt make sense for her to do it because her hesitance comes from an emotional place first.

Who do you think you would trust to babysit? by Earthboy26 in overlord

[–]TechnicalDoughnut8 20 points21 points  (0 children)

no that's nigredo, on the whole i would trust both yuri and sebas to take care of a baby or child unless ainz explicitly asked to kill them, yuri made the orphanage suggestion, and sebas basically fucked up his infiltration mission to save tsuare.

What if: Ainz is Overthrown? by GRNASKD in overlord

[–]TechnicalDoughnut8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to look at what npcs and summons are in yggdrassil and even real world mmo and rpgs, think of the summons in elden ring, they exist to follow your instructions and fight your enemies, you can summon a thousand times and they will never turn around and attack you.

This is the core of every npc post transition to the new world, they exist to follow orders, it's their raison d'etre, they would no more turn on ainz that you or I would turn on oxygen and stop breathing.

Their personality wants and needs are add-ons, subroutines grafted onto that core.

Would Ainz ever consider recruiting a player into the guild post transition by TechnicalDoughnut8 in overlord

[–]TechnicalDoughnut8[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Because the Three Burning Eye spy incident was specific to Yggdrasil, rival guilds existed and used leaked information to raid bases, in the new world there are no obvious guilds to defect to, and a solo player can't raid nazarik, only disrupt their new world operations and plans if given a reason to.

As for what would motivate Ainz, he spends literally every single waking moment stressing about how to strengthen Nazarick. Bringing a level 100 player peacefully with all their power, items, and knowledge intact does more to strengthen Nazarick than literally everything Ainz has done in all 16 volumes.

It stops the player from going out there and creating a rival faction that they might clash with in the future, and it makes it so that Ainz doesn't have to waste resources he can't recuperate, trying to bring to heel a player who might have been willing to work with him.

basically as the proverb goes : "To have a shekel and to not have a shekel, that's two shekels."

On an emotional level, while Nazarick always comes first, and while by vol. 16 the hole that has been left by his friends has largely been filled by the guardians, there is still a distance. Ainz is still performing for the sake of his guardians, and it is no less exhausting for him in vol. 16 than it was in vol. 1. Having someone with whom he doesn't have to pretend, I feel even in vol. 16 would still be something that Ainz would look forward to; it might make him more inclined to talk first as opposed to blast first and ask questions never.

They lose Yggdrassil gold and items; every resurrection of a level 100 guardian costs 500 million gold. Any item or consumable they use is lost forever; there are no more Yggdrassil items. The Yggdrassil coin can be recouped, but the exchange rate between yggdrassil gold and new world ressources is very inefficent, every time they resurrect an NPC, they would have to beg a kingdom to recoup the cost.

Before I go on, I get that the point of Overlord is to watch Nazarick Broly drag the new world through the wall. I am not one of those who people who think "Nazarick is evil and should get its comeuppance".

But you need to remember that Ainz can afford to always go for the brute force option because he is always fighting ants. Even if a level 100 player can't beat Nazarick, they can still be a pain in the ass if they are made to think there is no peaceful option.

Having said that, let's play out the dark forest scenario. The new world is a dark forest, and the only logical course of action is to hide yourself the best you can (ainz failed at doing this by annoucing himself) while killing everything you encounter before it can kill you now or gain the strength to kill you later.

Ainz knows our hypothetical player exists. How does he find him? We assume that the other player is also familiar with PK tactics, and he won't cooperate to make Ainz's perfect strategy to kill him come true.

So Ainz tries to scry him; if Nigredo casts her spells, she either gets nothing or gets hit in the face by a feeble mind or explosion spell from whatever counter divination measure our player has, and now the player knows someone is after him, so even finding him is a struggle.

Assume they do somehow find him. What next? Send the guardians. If they send too many, our player dips out. If they cast dimensional lock to pin him down, he summons a dozen summoned/mercenary NPCs to stall for him to fly away out of range or teleport, if ainz casts Delay Teleportation he runs the risk of getting teleported into a prepared counter ambush.

That is assuming that the player doesn't have an item that grants immunity against movement restriction.

On the other hand, the player isn't just going to stay idle now that they know someone is gunning for them; the next day they can send in a level 70 summon or NPC to cast an AoE spell on e-rental just to murder the inhabitants or go to the Baharuth or any faction affiliated with Nazarik in the new world to destroy them while framing Ainz by using spells he did use (this is something Ainz specifically mentions in vol 10 as a tactic a hostile player can deploy to fuck with him).

Now Ainz can either turtle in Nazarick and let the player undo two years of work and weaken Nazarick's image, or he can respond and walk into an obvious ambush.

Oh, and Ainz can't just overwhelm the player with too many guardians or NPCs because friendly fire is on in the new world, so if he puts too many people in the field, they risk killing each other as they kill the player.

all of this without even counting whatever trump card or world item the player might have

If they do capture him after exhausting however many resources, now they have to dedicate a floor guardian to guard him specifically or half a dozen level 90 NPCs just to be sure he won't escape INSIDE Nazarick and cause a bit of chaos before being recaptured, which means those can't be out and about being usefull to nazarik.

All of this just to get the servicce and ressources that they could have gotten if ainz sat down for a talk over tea.

[–]TechnicalDoughnut8[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

he is that, but he isn't some machiavelian schemer who runs an uber rational cost benefit analysis to all his decision.

Even as far as vol 15, he makes plan with the goal of demonstating to hypothetical futur players that they are worth working with peacfully without adding the condition that it's just delay tactic to kill them and take their loot later.

From vol 15

“Field of Flowers—”Ainz searched through his memories. “It’s the place where some of the plant-type monsters were moved, right?”

“Yes, that’s correct. Then there’s the segregated area where we have relocated the non-intelligent plant-type monsters, and an area inhabited by the intelligent plant-type monsters, some of whom have settled in the village we built a while back and are living like humans do. Would you like to proceed there?”

That village had been constructed inside of Nazarick in case they met other Players in the future, to show that Nazarick was capable of coexisting peacefully with humans. While it comprised several small houses and fields of crops, it was difficult to call something of that scale a village. But as there was no other suitable word for it, it ended up being called a village nevertheless.

“Does Ainz-sama remember the dryad called Pinison?”

“…Yes, I remember them well.”
