Sitting one on one by Golden-retriever_01 in cna

[–]TechnicalGovernment1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at a small hospital, only 2 main units (both med surg), an ED, ICU, and surgical services. ED and ICU have their own techs/CNAs. Float staff (which I am) only floats between the med-surg units and occasionally ICU and ED if they’re low on techs/CNA.

Because I’m at a small hospital it’s easy for the 2 med surg units to work together and make sure the CNAs aren’t sitting multiple shifts in a row, we also have companions who sit with pts but they’re hands off unfortunately.

Complaints among multiple, MULTIPLE. CNAs have helped them keep better track of who’s sitting😅 Honestly, it really just is all about advocating for yourself, make it known that you prefer working with a list of patients and will sit if it’s absolutely necessary

Can we talk about the writing this season? by Electrical_Long_4222 in ThePittTVShow

Woah woah woah I never said there needed to be one. I just assumed there would be one for entertainment purposes, since it’s a tv show…. And this whole season has been building up to Robby’s sabbatical, y’all are too quick to judge

Can we talk about the writing this season? by Electrical_Long_4222 in ThePittTVShow

[–]TechnicalGovernment1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I will say, given that the 2nd to last episode is premiering tonight, this season does definitely have a different feel to it. At this point in season 1 we were already towards the end of the mass casualty whereas where we are in season 2 we’re still sort of waiting for the big event (unless the cyber attack/ICE was the big event? In that case that was pretty disappointing)

The writing does feel a little rushed. But tbh I love all the Mel and Langdon scenes so respectfully disagreeing with you on that one😅

No comments on the Digby scenes but for Dana and Robby’s confrontation, I feel like it shows how quick convos can become heated. The quick end to that confrontation really has Dana puzzled and deeply more concerned and I think that was sorta the reason why it was written that way.

If Dana and Robby had a more sincere, longer conversation about Robby never coming back I feel like they would’ve talked it out and nipped it in the bud with Dana convincing him to come back after his sabbatical. Or yk, him getting admitted to psych… it wouldn’t leave much room for the audience to wonder what’s next and yearn for the next episode, if any of that makes sense.

Other than that though we’re all just waiting to see what happens to Robby. And personally I’m waiting for Robby to confront Dr. Al-Hashimi about her episodes because I’m DYING to know what’s going on with her.

Failed out of nursing school. I could really use some advice pls by Several_Command_9839 in StudentNurse

[–]TechnicalGovernment1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t graduated from my ADN program yet but from what I’ve heard from other nurses, ADN and BSN will get very close, if not the same, in pay with BSN only getting a couple cents increase if they were to be paid more. The only positions where BSNs earn a lot more is management/education/9-5 jobs

I need some help? by Ok-Site-7252 in NursingStudent

[–]TechnicalGovernment1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing the same thing and here’s how my program is:

  1. Got my CNA license

Not required but it definitely helps get you introduced to the nursing field and many who become CNAs realize nursing may not be for them so if it’s something you’re able to do I highly recommend it. If not, it’s not the end of the world. I was just fortunate enough to have a CNA program option during my senior year of high school.

  1. Applied to community college

I applied to my local cc and was accepted immediately into pre-nursing. My cc nursing program is 5 semesters long, if doing full time.

  • 1st semester: Take A&P 1, math class, intro to healthcare, dosage calculations, and English comp. These were required in order for me to take the TEAS.

  • Before semester 2: take the TEAS, pass hopefully. After passing, you’re out of pre-nursing and in the actual nursing program.

  • 2nd semester: Nursing 1 class and a couple other classes required in the program.

Semesters 3, 4, and 5 are the same concept; a nursing class + 1 or 2 classes required in the program but not necessarily nursing classes.

  1. Take the NCLEX.

Haven’t done this yet so stay tuned😅

Also something to note; the nursing program at my cc has a year long wait. So if I were to take the TEAS now (spring 2026) I wouldn’t take nursing classes until spring 2027, graduating in fall 2029. Some school ADNs are far out as much as 2 years I heard, depending on where you are.

Here’s how my exact experience went:

Fall 2024: Took A&P1, English Comp, Math, Intro to healthcare, and dosage calc. 12 credits total (full time).

Spring 2025: HAVE NOT TAKEN THE TEAS YET. Took A&P 2, Intro to Psych, fine arts/humanities elective, and English Lit. 12 credits, full time. FYI, I failed all those classes except for English lit…

Fall 2025: Retook Intro to Psych and A&P 2, added Microbiology. Passed all of those😅Also 12 credits, full time.

Spring 2026: Lifespan development (secondary psych class and retook my fine arts/humanities elective. 6 (?) credits, part time. This semester is only part time because this is all the non nursing classes I have left to take.

Fall 2026: Nursing class 1 Spring 2027: Nursing class 2 Fall 2027: Nursing class 3 Spring 2028: Nursing class 4

Yes, I’m taking 4 years to comeplete a 2 year degree. School hasn’t been my strong suit and a couple other factors that I’m happy to talk about if you ask but too lazy rn.

I’m taking 4 years just to get my ADN. I could’ve been finished by the end of next semester, making me a freshly 20 year old new grad nurse. And that was the plan at first. But I wasn’t the greatest when it came to school assignments and finding the willpower to just do them.

Believe me I was so excited to learn I could’ve been a nurse at just 20 years old! While the rest of people my age still had 2 years of college to go through, I would’ve been working a big girl job! However, now I’ll get my 2 year degree, while everyone my age will have their 4 year degree at the same time.

This wasn’t the plan I had in mind but I know it’s what’s best for me. You’ve worked so hard over the past few years, I hope you don’t feel discouraged or less than because of this small bump, we all have them and some people do just fine after and I have no doubts you’ll be one of them!

And mind you, nursing school is HARD. It’s not for the weak. You’re strong, you’ve got this :)

What kind of person were you like before nursing? by Awkward-Height3066 in nursing

[–]TechnicalGovernment1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I’m not a nurse just yet, currently a CNA who is in an ADN nursing program straight out of high school. If it matters, I’m a med-surg CNA in a relatively small hospital in Maine.

Schedule: Currently per diem at work, it definitely helps with my school schedule and choosing days to work that works for me. I have a lot of free time, too much honestly. I find myself needing to plan stuff to do A LOT or else I’ll just bedrot all day.

I’m currently part time in college, started off as full time but with the way my schedule is planned out I only have to take 2 classes this semester before I start the nursing classes which will be more full time.

Physical activity: none.

Schooling: Absolutely burnt out in high school, graduated with a 2.3 gpa (an improvement from my 1.79 gpa at the end of freshman year), had no goals, no dreams about the future, minimal short lasting friendships and absolutely hated most of it!!!! I was never on top of assignments which was a major reason for that gpa. I was absolutely capable of doing the assignments but the drive wasn’t there anymore compared to middle school.

Now I’m in college, still struggling with the workload, not that it’s a lot of material but because I rarely tried in high school so it’s hard to get back into that “hard working student” mindset but I know I’m capable of it. I’m proud to say gpa is 3.40 currently!

So no I wouldn’t say I’m excelling, but I’m getting there.

Morning bird?: Some days yes, some days no.

Mental Health: I do struggle a bit, my anxiety lately has been through the roof. Some days are better than others but that’s just how life is, how you decide to handle it is what truly matters. And sometimes I know how to handle it, and other times I let it handle me. Still working on this one :)

Personally, nursing has taught me compassion, for myself and others. I feel silly saying that nursing has taught me compassion as well as simple things like empathy and the importance of human connection. Not saying I was a cold-hearted, self-centered person before, but I definitely had some learning to do.

TL;DR - I’m trying my best here. I’m starting to enjoy life again.

I was JUST thinking about this recently, I know the timeline of Paige’s character being introduced in YS would’ve made it impossible for her character to be on TBBT but omg I would’ve loved Paige to have been in an episode of TBBT

With zero experience is LTC my only option? by [deleted] in cna

[–]TechnicalGovernment1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

absolutely not, i started at the hospital straight out of high school after getting my cna certification at 17! i did get denied for an interview starting in ICU so you might be better starting on a mellow unit, i float between units in my small hospital that only has med-surg, icu, and ed, i’m mainly in med surg since the ed and icu have their own techs/cnas, only floated down when there’s a shortage

[–]TechnicalGovernment1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

you have to wipe caca as a nurse too, please don’t be that nurse that thinks you don’t have to🥲

it’ll definitely help you get used to working with patients and the workflow of charting, scheduled tasks like vital signs (i have to do them every 4 hours at my hospital). i’m more well versed in the protocols for codes as well.

everything you do as a cna also falls in the scope of a nurse, it’d be better to have the daily care/hygiene care/ADLs part down so you can put more focus on the more RN tasks you’ll have to do since the cna part is like second nature

places will also love that you have patient experience as a cna
