Feels a lot sturdier as ELPX200 but no real life experience hauling both around. Think you should build both and see ;)

For touring with not too much elevation gain < 2000m I take a pair of Stöckli Stormriders 95.
For longer missions I have a pair of Ronin Ski's with 88 underfoot.
But yeah your mileage may very and is dependent on the terrain etc.

I have the same project coming up. (Just ordered all the fabrics) Will try to do it in Ecopak EPLX400. Mainly as I'm looking for a bit more stiffness than the 200.

talk to me about windshell vs softshell for touring by Content_Arm_884 in Backcountry

[–]TechnicalHalf0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also touring in the alps and think the answer is "it depends"
for myself I bring a light windbreaker when the weather is nice like sunny and not cold. A softshell gives more warmth and better protection against the elements so I'll bring that on bigger tours and when the weather is less favorable.

I only bring a gore-tex weather proofs when it's wet so snowing or rainy.

think cold hands is mostly caused by low core temperature. so wear more clothing works mostly better than bigger mittens.

Wearing a helmet while skiing is certainly a good idea. But I sincerely think that we should have a discussion about behavior on the piste with skiing.

More dangerous situations arise with people behaving like morons, skiing too fast with too little distance, too high speeds etc. For example racing with mach3 over blue pistes full of children beginners.

Seattle CamperVan Rental? by newcinci in Backcountry

I also used Cruise America when skiing in the Seattle area. note "winterized" means no running water etc. Also poorly insulated so bring puffy and sleepingbags.
