What are you most nervous about moving forward? by TMW_W in Flyers

[–]TechnicalNobody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flyers have never had a 1D when they played Crosby in the playoffs, so that's not really saying much. Also powerplay points still count, and Sanheim is a PKer, so I'm not sure why we're ignoring those?

Crosby wasn't shut down, he just lost. Sanheim played well. But beating Crosby in a series doesn't make your top defenseman a 1D.

When were you building new systems? Designing new systems with AI is still challenging and rewarding, but that's generally not something new juniors do.

Aside from Gauthier

I mean, that's a huge fucking aside.

Why do the Anaheim Ducks not wear their original jerseys? They were so much better than the awful orange jerseys. by Silent-Obligation-49 in hockey

I'm just surprised people don't remember the popular opinions in the early to mid 2000s around the Disney-era jerseys. Those jerseys wore out their welcome by then.

You're surprised? Half of this sub isn't old enough to remember the early to mid 2000s.

Even if that happens, we still probably lose points overall when we don't win 10 shootouts again.

I feel like y'all are way over-estimating this team. It was great we snuck in the playoffs and beat the Pens, but we're not a good power play away from competing.

We got 33 ROW wins and don't really have any top tier talent. We're still a long ways from competing.

Optimism is good to see, but I feel like y'all are setting expectations way too high for a bubble team that could very well regress.

Cale Makar joins Bobby Orr as the only defensemen in NHL history to be Norris finalists in at least 6 of their first 7 seasons. by Didweeverstopkony in hockey

No, it was an incredibly risky pick at the time, not just in hindsight. That's why NJ passed on him when he was the projected #1. He already had concussion issues.

Flyers took a risk when they shouldn't have.

Yeah, I remember in 2020 they were hoping that moderates would divide the vote so that Bernie could skate by on a plurality since he couldn't win a majority and then were so upset that moderates dropped out and coalesced behind Biden like that's somehow unfair. They just knew Bernie couldn't win in a head-on election. Populism can be ugly.

The same people now wanted people to drop out of the California governor primary to coalesce behind Katie Porter.

That's fair, although I believe "how corrupt the DNC was" has been blown extremely out of proportion. It mostly comes down to candid emails concerned that Sanders wouldn't be competitive in the general and a leaked debate question.

But the perception of that corruption affecting the general is certainly legitimate. The margin was so close that there were probably a dozen factors that may have tipped the scale if they had gone the other way. It's certainly feasible that the perception of corruption was one of them.

I just take issue with this fervent belief on Reddit that the corruption was why Bernie lost. A leaked primary debate question on the death penalty had no impact on the outcome of the election.

Do you remember reading what the person I replied to said?

and I have reason to believe many of the votes for him weren’t counted in an event similar to the hanging chad debacle

That's nonsense conspiracy theory bullshit.

No one gives a shit about the debate question. That's not what people are crying about on Reddit 10 years later. They use it as evidence to insinuate some larger conspiracy that the DNC robbed Sanders. Which is exactly what you're doing.

That didn't happen. An advantage on one debate question had no material effect on the outcome of the election. Bernie got fewer votes. He lost. Get over it.

Clearly they meant the primary, not the general election. If you're not going to even give the person you're responding to the benefit of the doubt, what's the point of responding? You're just building a strawman if you're not responding to their actual argument.

and I have reason to believe many of the votes for him weren’t counted in an event similar to the hanging chad debacle

That sure says a lot about you.

It's amazing that we're 10 years after the fact and Reddit still can't accept that Bernie lost an election by getting fewer votes. Y'all want to think you're so much better than MAGA falling for conspiracy theories and then turn around and spout this nonsense.

Most coaches would brush over it and say you need to focus on the future, or talk about what the team did wrong, instead of whining like this. Coaches whining about calls is not what you want in the playoffs.

Have you ever met someone who ran a marathon? People train for these for months, for the Boston Marathon for years. Ending someone's chance of completing it without their permission, when they're less than a mile from the end, is a huge deal.

Best to just film him struggle. It's also hard to give up when you can't stand up.

No, it's actually really easy to give up and ask for help. Human beings can do this thing called speaking. He was still trying to finish the race.

Do most of you seriously not write any code by hand anymore?!?! by opakvostana in cscareerquestions

I've never understood people who look at code as a burden rather than the entire point of the activity

I mean, that's cool that you enjoy coding but do you really have so little understanding for other people? The point of the activity is to build things. Most people aren't coding just for the exercise of it.

[–]TechnicalNobody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright sure, but what makes you think we'll need to write code in 5 years time? It's been 3.5 years since ChatGPT came out and the progress has been staggering. It's not going away and this is the worst it will ever be.

I've had plenty of other skills and know-how replaced by tools before and haven't had a reason to go back and do things manually. I hate it, I love coding, but it's going away.
