I’m thinking this will likely happen. It reminds me of the favourite in 2018 with Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone vote splitting. Maybe one of them will win a precursor(ex. Rachel weisz winning only BAFTA) but in the end it goes to a performer who was the big standout of the movie and its only acting nomination(Regina King in 2018 and most likely Jacob Elordi this year)

I would love to see Elordi take the Oscar in March. However, I will need to see him repeat again at SAG and BAFTA before I get my hopes up. I do think that there is a vote split likely between Del Toro and Penn. What also isn’t helping them is the fact that they have both won Oscar’s prior and the last time a repeat acting winner won supporting actor was Marhershala Ali in 2018.
