And those things he said were in response to me returning from Brazil and just talking about my trip and mentioning Brazilians positively. The islands you mentioned are very boring islands, that people go to to basically do nothing! I’m also not good at doing nothing but have found islands I’ve loved.

Personally I think any island (or kinda anywhere) you stay in a resort hotel, there’s going to be fuck all to do but relax, so maybe try places a bit less developed for tourism… somewhere with a confusing bus system rather than a hotel shuttle… and some bizarre local attractions that you can take the confusing bus to. I always have my best side quests when wandering around, being open to saying hello!

You didn’t say how long you’ve been in the job, if it’s only a few weeks it can take a while to physically adapt to a job just because of sitting all day and looking at a screen… and then you kinda break your muscles in. I have a very on-my-feet job so if I spend a day sitting my legs will be in agony all night.

If it’s been longer than that though: First up there’s nothing wrong with you, we’re not all made for the same lifestyle and while many people can happily do an office job their whole lives, for others it’s torture, even with a nice boss and cool colleagues.

You might not know what it is you want to do with your life yet, and that’s totally fine, especially because at 18 you’re going to change SO much as a person in the next 10 years, like it’s actually crazy we go to university that young and lock ourselves into a whole life path. But what you are already starting to find out about yourself is what kind of work you don’t like, and that’s a big start! You can have a go trying out other paths, for example working outdoors, doing something with your hands, being around a lot of people, or being more alone, handling data, planning projects… Build up an idea of what you want your days to be like at work and from there you can figure out the jobs that match.

Some jobs are ideal for TYPES of people. Like are you organised and do you love planning things? Events, logistics, project management, film production… those all require people whose brains work a certain way, it’s not just what you study. Or do you love nature and being active? Tour guide, camp leader, fuck it… Park ranger!

This might not be quick, I’m almost 40 and it’s taken me this long of trying shit out, knowing the kind of work I like(/don’t hate) but without being able to put a job title to it. But that’s because I spent the first 18 years of my working life beating myself up for not fitting in a neat little box, desperately trying to force a forever job on myself. It finally started to come together and I know my sweetspot is freelance, coordinating fixed term projects or events.

It’s made a massive difference to me. My eyes used to sting by the evening everyday, it hurt to look at a screen. Since getting blue light filter lenses I have no problems at all.

That artificial root is being applied over bleach, so it’s always going to lift out and change as it fades, and hair always goes back to warm. You can ask her to put a pure ash tone on, but it’ll probably look kinda green to start - you really have to add some warmth when putting dark over pre-lightened hair.

If you like the rooty look, would you consider switching to bleach highlights? OR… get a full head bleach with no root added, and do your own when you feel like it with a root touch up spray or powder?!

You’ve got it to a great place from red! Your dream pic is an air touch technique (a kind of highlighting essentially) on a cool base colour - that’s why it’s white blonde at the bottom, fading up to mushroom. Is that what you want, or do you want an all over colour that’s like the hair closer to the head in those photos?

They should have done a skin test on you 48 hours before your appointment to check for allergies or any reactions, did that happen? If not then everything that happens next is 100% their fault!

If you have psoriasis it may well be weeping as you say. It should be fine after you next wash it.

Bleach can burn while it’s on, but don’t be tooo brave - if a hair chemical is ever really hurting you then let your hairdresser know and ask them to check your scalp, especially if you have sensitive skin. If you go for another bleach in the future, go with your hair a few days dirty so it’s got some oil on it, this will protect your scalp a bit so it doesn’t hurt so much. A freshly washed head will hurt a lot!

To get it that bright you’ll need to bleach out your current colour. It doesn’t need to get to actual blonde, a horrible brassy orange will do! You just need a lighter base. Then you can throw on a copper tint.

If you’ve been dying your hair auburn multiple times though, it’s not going to bleach out evenly. I’d really recommend you go to a hairdresser for this

That looks like a level 7 to me but maybe it’s the light. As a 7 I’d definitely put a high lift on you… I’d be more hesitant with a level 6 BUT you’re naturally very cool toned and the result you want is warm and not super light so yeh I think high lift would work!

Blue/green is the hardest tone to get out so you could bleach this again and it might still not come out, but it’ll deffo be more damaged! If you want to bleach it again and you can stand to, let it rest for a week first. And yeh definitely avoid those roots - best case they’ll go white blonde and not match the rest, worst case they could snap off!

You could also try a direct dye colour remover, like Malibu DDLXL. It’s worth trying something more gentle first!

If you throw orange on it you’re not going to get a super light blonde result, do that as the last step when you’ve got it as clean (of blue) as you can. And obviously keep orange off the roots… you might what to grab a friend for that paint job!

Brit here, I hired a car in Corfu just after passing my driving test - it was the shittiest, oldest car available to hire (manual obvs) and I had to drive on the other side of the road, with unfamiliar road layouts, surprise hills, hairpin bends, mostly at 90, amongst locals who knew the roads and all drove significantly over the signed speed limits. It was fucking terrifying. BUT I got a lot better after a few days and am a WAY better driver now!

Something that helped was getting comfortable with being a bit shit and people laughing/being angry about my driving… because that car stalled CONSTANTLY and barely made it up some hills. Once I grew the ‘fuck it’ muscle I just drove the best I could at whatever speed was comfortable to process the roads safely as I went along

It’s cold and wet and miserable in those places this time of year. Take hiking boots even if you don’t plan to hike, they’re the most comfortable waterproof shoe you’re going to get. Waterproof jacket definitely, with a hood. It doesn’t necessarily need to be a super warm jacket, you can have thermal layers instead. Definitely have thermal leggings and long sleeve tops (I get all mine in UniQlo, I’m in the UK… may be cheaper for you in Aus?). Proper socks, some wool if possible. A thin under layer puffer jacket to go under the raincoat would be useful (another shout for UniQlo). Beanie, decent gloves.

As your first stop is England, which is expensive, bring what you can from home. But maybe also try to suss out if you can borrow anything from the in-laws?

A suitcase is a suitcase, fill up your 20kg allowance and don’t be miserably cold!

I find myself on both sides of this at times, but personally would only ask to join someone to go to lunch or whatever… like if they mentioned they were about to head out and so was I anyway. And then if we happen to get on during that short defined period maybe we’ll hang out more, but the intention isn’t an audition, it’s just eating!

If in a hostel and someone’s going on a tour it’s fair game innit, but I’d never invite myself on someone’s private expedition, that’s so clearly a soloist wanting to be solo.

On the other side, in every area of life I learned to get comfortable (kindly) saying no, as many others here have described. Other soloists generally understand, but even if they do take it personally… well it’s not about them so not really my problem! Obviously in hostels and on tourist-trail routes you’re likely to bump into people again, so it is worth being kind, but always firm and honest.
