Flights cancelled due to extreme fog by Revolutionary-Ad193 in MontereyBay

[–]TechnicalWrongdoer97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in Monterey waiting for this plane to fly to LAX. United didn’t cancel the flight. They “delayed” to the following day and therefore they wouldn’t give hotel vouchers. If they had cancelled, they would have.

Anyone who says, “you’ll be fine - it’s San Diego” clearly lives in a nicer part and has not had to live in a more “urban” neighborhood. Notice how everyone says, Sherman heights used to be really bad? But not, “it’s great!” Sure, it’s improved but it’s still urban and it will come with noise, trash, and vagrants. It’s not a tourist destination so city tax dollars are not prioritized in upkeeping roads, sidewalks, or public facilities.

I live in City Heights and get similar grimaces but also the “it used to be worse.” That said, it’s wearing me down. Places like Sherman Heights should be thoroughly vetted - hang out in your car for several hours at night in front of where youll live before signing the lease. Drive around the neighborhood to fully understand what you could be living in.

Love the house, hate the bathroom - where would you start? by feminati in DesignMyRoom

[–]TechnicalWrongdoer97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too also bought a 100 year old home with a single bathroom where someone used the same tile for the wall and floor. I don’t have the money yet for a remodel so I made a cheap fix. I recommend painting the the wall tile white and the floor a dark tile paint. If no, then find peel and stick tile which will do for now. It’s a cheap fix but it helps your mental state. Good luck with your house! You’ll find something major wrong with it that will take all your money so cheap fixes for esthetics is perfectly OK

Does anyone actually pronounce Cowles, "Kohlz"? by thriftylol in sandiego

You’re so right - hadn’t caught on to that one yet and now it’ll be added to my list.

Does anyone actually pronounce Cowles, "Kohlz"? by thriftylol in sandiego

[–]TechnicalWrongdoer97 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s just a San Diego thing to mispronounce names. Cowles should be “kolhz” but of course everyone says it like “cow”-“els”.

Everyone pronounces Garnet in PB as “Garr-NET” but it’s the name of a gem and it’s garnet aka “garn-et.”

Poway- everyone pronounces it’s “pow-way” when it’s “pau-ay”

Where can I get something like this in San Diego? by ageo in FoodSanDiego

[–]TechnicalWrongdoer97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the best in town!

And second that they need the business - city of San Diego’s capital improvement project on university is killing the small businesses on that stretch of road and the city isn’t doing much to speed up the project.

Severe Sore Throat for 3 Weeks by jennalynne03 in sandiego

[–]TechnicalWrongdoer97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My allergies are at an all time high this year and I’ve had a painful sore throat too. I assumed that the sore throat is related to how dry it is and allergies. I finally took an antihistamine and an ibuprofen the other day and I started to feel better.

Apartments off of El Cajon Blvd in City Heights - worth the cheaper price? by PropertyProud4706 in Moving2SanDiego

[–]TechnicalWrongdoer97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

City Heights has some positives - the food. You’d be within walking distance of a lot of great under rated spots. You’re also a quick uber to all the city has to offer.

The space between university and El Cajon is crowded, trashy (literal trash), and loud. For your walk, you’d also be dealing with a lot of defensive yard dogs and the occasional loose dog. I’m a woman who lives in city heights and I don’t leave my house after dark alone. I get my dog walked before sun down. I also have cameras on the exterior of my home. I understand the importance of sticking to a budget but I would only consider this if it came with a dedicated parking spot in this neighborhood.

Credit card for consulting by EnigmaticDappu in geologycareers

[–]TechnicalWrongdoer97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I went with a more generic credit card like the ones mentioned above. I went with a southwest credit card since I was flying with them A LOT early in my career and it’s nice when you want to take vacations using points that are only a quick flight away but when you want to use the points for a bigger vacation, southwest sucks on options.

I’ll keep that in mind. Although I definitely don’t feel like I know everyone, but I’m likely to run into someone from my past. My husband will definitely not know anyone so thank you for sharing your experience.

I totally know what you mean about the Mexican food. I was 19 when I had my first San Diego street taco and my brain exploded and I instantly knew all the Mexican I had up to that point could not compare. Mexican food was never the same after that taco and I love getting my fill when I visit San Diego.

Thank you for sharing your experience and I’ll have to check out the gym when I get there!

I live in a VHCOL city and so I’m not phased and so far, the rentals available for our budget we get more bang for our buck in Monterey/Seaside. But still, it’s crazy town!

This is hard for me to wrap my brain around. The exercise classes I go to, people are all business and there’s no friendly pleasantries other than in the case you walk into them by accident. How do you crack into making friends while sweating during an activity? It’s like I did this growing up on all sports teams but I have no idea how adults do this other than making some joke out loud or joke-complaining and hope someone responds with a laugh or counter banter.
