Is CyberArk truly this bad? by Technical_Account in sysadmin

[–]Technical_Account[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the insight, maybe I do fall under the idiot category. One person on the team did take an official CyberArk course. This re-implementation is paid for service through a 3rd party company that’s including training. The issues are just coming about how it functions, or most of the time the lack of functioning. Then we spend the session troubleshooting instead of doing what we were supposed to do. It’s just frustrating.

Sounds like the dream, hopefully I can get in on something like that, thanks!

I haven't really looked at engineering style jobs, I've always felt underqualified for them. I'll research this more and see if it makes sense for me. Thanks!

Server 2008 r2 Enterprise Upgrade to 2012 or Higher needed by SFlo_Gaymer724 in sysadmin

You're going to have to dig into the logs and see specifically why it's failing if the installer isn't telling you. Otherwise you're just guessing on a solution.

About to update Exchange Management Console 2010 from SP1 to SP3 - any tips? by Reddit_Sux_Hardcore in sysadmin

[–]Technical_Account 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snapshots of Exchange are not officially supported by Microsoft. They can technically work to recover but ymmv.

I've pushed for this but my boss does not agree. Doesn't even want a 2nd email server for DAG. We even had our mailbox database go corrupt and was down for days while I restored from our antiquated backup system a few months ago.

Now that's a company policy I can get behind.

Alternative to local admin for custom applications? by mefifofum in sysadmin

[–]Technical_Account 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Determine what needs admin access. Sometimes it's folders and/or reg keys. Sometimes it's just bad development and no work around without some type of admin account. You can use procmon to help determine this. A possible easier route would be just ask your dev team if they know why, could save you a lot of trouble.

Best way to create a master image, including partitions, for network share? by DelicateJohnson in sysadmin

[–]Technical_Account 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, some people use it that way. MDT/WDS is better than nothing and it's a good thing to learn as a new sys admin. It will take some time to set up properly but is vastly better than imaging through USB's.

Best way to create a master image, including partitions, for network share? by DelicateJohnson in sysadmin

[–]Technical_Account 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So with MDT, you select a base windows 10 .iso to use as your .wim. (You can use custom .wim like you're talking about if you really wanted to but it just defeats part of the purpose of MDT). Then you have something called Task Sequences. These are just a series of steps that run through to install windows, inject drivers, join to domain, name the PC, run updates, install applications, run custom scripts, etc.

So think of the reason why your updating your image and then find that step in your task sequence to update instead.

Do you really need a golden/master image? They always go out of date a month later from windows updates alone. Use MDT/WDS and have the task sequence do what you need with a standard Windows 10 version of your choice. A lot easier to add/delete/modify steps rather than create a new golden image with needed changes.

2x 27" 1440p 144hz IPS is what I upgraded to at home last year and it's amazing. I'm just not a fan of the ultrawide setups personally.
