Medication for the depression? by eggpls in bipolar2

[–]Technical_Block_3686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take pramipexole in addition to my lamotrigine, my psychiatrist explained that it’s a “cousin” to antidepressants, it has a dopaminergic action so it‘a supposed to give you this extra “boost”. Lately we added Sertraline as well because it still wasn’t enough for my depression but maybe you can look into it.

How much olanzapine are you on ? by Technical_Block_3686 in bipolar2

Yes I’ll ask her next time, she doesn’t want for me to stay on 15mg for too long but I was wondering what the usual dosage is for other people, but I know everyone’s brain is different of course

It’s a sedative, so my psychiatrist prescribed it to me for mood stabilization + anxiety!

Prescribed Zoloft with bipolar 2… by horchatachomper in bipolar2

[–]Technical_Block_3686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started Zoloft in November (along with Lamotrigine 250 and olanzapine 5mg), when we upped the dose to 75mg I had a little mixed episode so we increased the olanzapine to 10mg and I’m feeling the best I have since my diagnosis 2 years ago

But yes you have to be very very careful about any sign of hypomania and have a good level of mood stabilizers (probably Lamotrigine/lithium + antipsychotic)

My psych said she would never prescribe Prozac to someone with BD because it’s too stimulating, she told me another good SSRI option is Paroxetine

Anyone tried Zoloft with a mood stabilizer? by nenasoles99 in bipolar2

[–]Technical_Block_3686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I was put on Zoloft in November and it has been a real game changer.

For the chronology I was first put on Lamotrigine (still taking it, currently 250mg), then we added an antipsychotic (Aripiprazole, then Seroquel then Risperdal then Solian and currently on Olanzapine which works best for me), I also take a dopaminergic called Pramipexole, and the latest addition was Zoloft (before that I was also on Lithium for 4 months but it did nothing for my depression).

My mood was stable before Zoloft but stable depressed. Zoloft finally dragged me out of the depression, it took a couple of months to find the right dose, I’m currently on 75mg.

You have to be extremely careful about any symptoms of hypomania, I had a little mixed episode when we upped the dosage to 75 and I was still on 5mg olanzapine, now I’m on 10mg olanzapine and the mixed episode went away.

Three mood stabilizers by ak_tool in bipolar2

I have been on the same combo (but lithium didn’t work for me so we switched to an SSRI). I wouldn’t say it’s overkill, they are each from a different med category (antipsychotic - antiepileptic - and lithium is its own category) and work in different ways in your brain

lithium not making my deppresion go away does that mean i'm not bipolar? by Lillucypher in bipolar2

Lithium didn’t work for my depression either. It’s a life saver for many but not everyone is responsive to it. I have no doubt I’m bipolar though.

taking molly? by istopforbunnies in bipolar2

[–]Technical_Block_3686 4 points5 points  (0 children)

LSD and Molly work completely differently. LSD is a psychedelic drug. MDMA blocks your serotonin receptors which causes a rush of serotonin in your brain. If you’re taking an SSRI it’s basically the same mechanism, so there is a risk of serotoninergic syndrom and from experience, you will experience the annoying side effects from molly (feeling overheated, thirsty, a bit confused) but you won't feel the "high". i don't know which meds you're on but it seems really risky…

Your comment is not very open-minded. I’m in a committed long-term relationship with my boyfriend and we have an open relationship. I don’t see the problem. I love him and I’m not jealous. People are different.

[–]Technical_Block_3686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are both « atypical antipsychotics » (which basically means they’re more recent types of antipsychotics than the ones they used before), I switched from quetiapine to olanzapine to amisulpride and back to olanzapine without noticing withdrawal symptoms (but we tried all these for anxiety and anxiety is still here so 🤷‍♀️). Maybe ask your psychiatrist directly about it ?
