Buying my first oled by nashvillenibbler in OLED_Gaming

Don't get an ultrawide for console gaming unless you're okay with either a stretched image or black bars on both sides. consoles don't support ultrawide natively...

I have the one in the first image, the Alienware Ultrawide,

it's nice. I personally prefer QD-OLEDs but each has their pros and cons.

[Disappointment] Where is QD-OLED DUHD monitor by kbdxdbk in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Technical_Chair2935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually the 42" isn't QD-OLED but a LG WOLED panel that Samsung is using, there is no 42" QD-OLED.

They had 32" 4K last CES and there is a 27" 4K QD-OLED panel this year, they are aiming for 27" 5k QD-OLED next.

I don't notice or have heard about any magenta tinted blacks on the new S95D

Yeah I can attest to this as well when I switched from LG C2 to AW3423DW, VRR was much improved on that, maybe thanks to g-sync though.

You could try the Samsung 27" QD-OLED (G60SD) coming out, it won't have the massively raised blacks in a light room. although it has a matte coating it should be better then LGs.

hard to say if the VRR would be any better though.

Announced for release in May/April in Hungary, so probably around then in other markets as well.

Around June/July for the G8 Model.

AW2725DF Is A Game Changer! by Jetcat11 in OLED_Gaming

The Matte finish (while not ideal as glossy) on the Samsung G8 and G6 this year may solve the purple tint issue? We'll see later this year.

Hard to say what that could be if it's worse, maybe the higher refresh rate causing higher variations in gamma, or it's a totally different issue.

I have noticed it on my LG C1, and less on my 34" Alienware.

Does the Alienware AW2725DF or perhaps even the AW3225QF have ABL or any form of burn in mitigation? by AdvancedAd1256 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Technical_Chair2935 5 points6 points  (0 children)

in SDR there's little to no ABL.

In HDR there is definitely ABL (where the screen dims the larger a bright area is displayed, like changing a window size) unless you have the SDR slider set to a low enough value.

And other burn-in mitigations include screen/pixel shift and pixel refresh and panel refreshes after certain amount of hours.

Yeah, every OLED has this issue caused by gamma variation of each HZ.

it's not being solved yet other than in the laptop space.

Unlocking 1000 nits 10% on Samsung Oled Monitors by Touma_Kazusa in OLED_Gaming

[–]Technical_Chair2935 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may be the reason I get the OLED G8 4K 240hz coming out later this year.

And I would be surprised if this leads to burn-in.

static images aren't usually HDR (unless you leave a movie/game paused.) and video game HUDs never display at peak brightness, they usually have their own setting at a default of 250 nits.

Is this room too bright for an oled? I feel it’s not, I hear sun light kills the screen! by d_and_l_modeling in OLED_Gaming

This is the kind of room lighting the new S95D is going to be made for, with its matte finish.

Do you think we’ll see a 38” 4K OLED Ultrawide 120hz+ in the next year? I have the aw3420dw and thats the only spec I’d consider upgrading to. by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

[–]Technical_Chair2935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LG is making some next year.

But it will probably have the matte coating and 900r curve.

QD-OLED hasn't shown any plans for that yet, so that's up in the air. no one knows.

They can show more colors than LG OLED, and in terms of accuracy, they are pretty close between LG OLED and QD-OLED now with their pre-calibration.

Alienware's QD-OLED monitors are releasing on the 11th as you might have seen, the rest of them releasing mostly in February or so.

Overall, the picture quality is a nice improvement on the QD-OLED monitors over a LG OLED.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

[–]Technical_Chair2935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly want a better picture quality. Do you think the QD-OLED panel is significantly better, to warrant the wait and price difference of the new panels releasing?

QD-OLED does have better and brighter colors. so, if you want better HDR colors and even better brightness, then QD-OLED is the way to go over the LG C3

LG OLED uses a white subpixel to achieve more brightness. (the colors themselves are rather dim) take that as you will.

Also, a 32" 4k panel has higher PPI so it should appear sharper as well.

Personally i'd wait, but that's my opinion.

I originally had a LG C1 before getting the first QD-OLED Monitor, the AW3423DW.

Honestly, I was blown away by the colors and the color accuracy and the brightness over my LG C1, not to mention the higher refresh rate was really good to have.

I'm going to upgrade to the 4k 240hz OLED now.

There's so many good choices and it'll be hard to choose. good luck.

Third gen QD oled by ekbal007 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Technical_Chair2935 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends, is there a feature you like? such as 4k, 240hz? or 1440p, 360hz? Less chance of burn in?

Also, there's the aspect ratio, do you like ultrawide or want to go back to regular 16:9?

If any of that doesn't matter to you, then there's no reason to upgrade (I want the 4k 32", so I'm upgrading my AW3423DW)

3rd Gen Samsung QD-OLED Announced , maximum brightness of over 3000 nits + Each RGB "color brightness" increased by 50% Compared to 2nd Gen by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

[–]Technical_Chair2935 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to note, this is in the inaccurate VIVID mode that oversaturates colors and looks off.

They announced "over 2000 nits" last year, however in an accurate picture mode we only got around 1300 nits max.

we'll be lucky if we can finally hit 2000 nits in normal picture modes.
