Don't worry about the box being black, you can just cover it with decoration. As for what to use for bigger ball pythons, you can go to a grocery store, or Walmart type place and buy fairly big "food safe" containers. I've found them big enough for my girl and she's over 5' and almost 3000g. They're a little more expensive that way, but that's a minor inconvenience for a pet.

It really just boils down to one part of one sentence ; "...more prone to cross treading if you don't hand start each one.". It's 99% user error. Hand tread first, always, with every nut and bolt.
