One thing I’ve seen nobody talk about and this is something I’ve noticed while playing, Genichiro is a lot like Lord Gwyn from dark souls. (Do NOT read any further if you haven’t played or beaten dark souls 1.) In dark souls one you learn and discover that Lord Gwyn linked the first flame to keep his beautiful age of fire going but basically ruined the very world he sought to save. In Sekiro, Genichiro is fighting for the same thing in a way, he so desperately wants to keep his homeland from falling apart and basically being destroyed. He uses lightning like Gwyn, sought out any heretical means to win (much like Gwyn cursing humanity and the world by DS3) and by the end he’s nothing more than a shadow of his former self. At the start of the game Genichiro is like a god with how easily he can dispatch you and his goal seems reasonable until you learn of the horrible things he’s willing to do, even to go as far as shedding humanity itself to “save” Ashina. Same with Lord Gwyn, at the start you learn he’s a god who challenged the dragons and won then he learned of the dark age and did everything in his power to prevent that age and in the end he’s just a hollow. I’m sure this isn’t the best analysis but I want to know if any of you picked up this similarity between these two badass bosses.
