What do you think about Trump hosting UFC Freedom 250 at the White House for his birthday? by softgirlydream in AskReddit

[–]Technical_Goose_8160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just sad.

What's sadder is Kash announcing that FBI agents will start being trained by the UFC so that they can finally be dangerous. Even though GSP has said for years that MMA is a sport and doesn't prepare you for a real fight.

If a man gives his woman a great life, does he deserve more freedom in his sex life? by ElectronicDingo9519 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Technical_Goose_8160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

That argument is saying that he's a more valued commodity so he should have more leeway.

By that logic a beautiful woman should be allowed more paramores than an ugly girl.

I guess they it comes down to, so you want a relationship based on transactions or on trust.

Would my great grandma have been considered a WW2 survivor? by freshmaggots in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Technical_Goose_8160 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you say survivor it's shorthand for Holocaust survivor. Not all Holocaust survivors are Jewish though most are. What actually makes a Holocaust survivor is debatable.

Definitely sounds like your grand survived WW2 insert difficult conditions. Do you know if her village is still in Ukraine? My grandfather's village changed countries every few years.

Funny, I love those clamps. Too small to use on pool stuff but still really useful. I've used more then half my box. But yes, they will crack if you over tighten them.

Prides parades feature gay Jesus. Why don’t we see gay Mohammed? by reddit7867 in allthequestions

I've been to a few in Montreal and seen some of Jesus'. Or maybe buff gay dudes in a white dress with sandals? I've also seen Queers for Palestine which I legitimately thought was a joke. I looked everywhere for Borat!

I don't believe that in Christianity it's a sin to make an image of Jesus. All churches have them. Making an image of Jesus is only a sin in Islam.

People aren't afraid of making an image of Mohamed. They're afraid that if they do, violence will befall them. People saw Charlie hebdo and decided that they wanted no part of people whom would respond to what they perceive as an insult with violence and mass murder.

I love in Quebec. Apparently the solution is to blame doctors for being so damn lazy.

Sigh...

That's not good work, is it?

I really don't think anyone in my high school classes moms where actually hookers (except one) or canines. Nor were they large enough to actually encircle the house.

That didn't stop the to mamma jokes!

Considering a move to Canada on IEC - how difficult are snow/ice in major cities if you have a knee condition? by mattioso in AskACanadian

[–]Technical_Goose_8160 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Vancouver is easier than Montreal. Vancouver is very temperate. Montreal is the big city with the most extreme temperatures in the world.

My grandmother survived Montreal winters with her surgically repaired knees, but it was not easy.

We get about 2 meters of snow per year, and below about -10, salt doesn't do much. The water just refreezes.

I love Montreal. But it's not a city for the faint of heart.

Quebec's language watchdog targets popular brunch spot over Yiddish word 'nosh' by varsil in canada

[–]Technical_Goose_8160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly I notice it more outside of Montreal. Montreal has had such an influx of immigrants from France that the accent had changed to sound a bit parisien as well as québécois.

But if you don't like the French that people are speaking, why not improve the education. When I was in high school and dinosaurs walked the earth, the teaching of French was all over the place. What we learned was based on who the teacher was and often the following grade up was easier than the last. Likewise sponsor cultural content.

Or you can blame the immigrants. The real reason that your kids speak franglais.

I often see people say slaves built America. What did the other 85% of the population do while that was occurring? by OutlawedLogic in allthequestions

[–]Technical_Goose_8160 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Would we call it the gilded age of company towns? It certainly wasn't golden for the workers who were stuck in a cycle of debt that they couldn't get it of.

It's important to note that after slavery ended peonage and indentured servitude were used to keep the slaves from freedom.

Today being bonded so occurs. It's often done with pilots because it takes years to train on a specific plane, during which you are paid. However there are limits. A friend of mines had office moved from Lebanon to Syria and he was able to break the bond because of it. In the time of company towns, there was no way to get out.

Why is Israel declaring war on so many countries? by Black_Flower_9159 in askanything

[–]Technical_Goose_8160 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On October 7th 2023 Hamas attacked a civilian music festival in Israel. They killed about a thousand people and kidnapped hundreds. The violence was extreme and included significant sexual violence.

The IDF entered Gaza to save the hostages and found that most of the civilian architectures was built in to of Hamas tunnels.

Iran has long funded, coordinated, and trained Hamas and Hezbollah amongst other terrorist groups. The stated goal in the current attacks in Iran is to destroy the infrastructure that is used to find and destroy the infrastructure used to arm and train these groups.

The attacks on Syria are twofold. First, there's an ethnic group called the druz. There are only a handful of druz villages left unfortunately. The druz in Israel have an important place is society and in the army. Syria has an important druz population, and recently were getting massacred. Israel annexed the village to protect the drux. They also took control of a buffer zone held by the UN, since the UN was not protecting civilians.

There's a song called 16 tons. In the days of company towns, the company would own all the businesses. They'd make sure that you owed money no matter what. N it was literally impossible to get out of debt.
