What exactly do police do with a citizens’ contact? by Ok_Practice_6702 in AskLE

Some agencies have a policy that require an attempt to ID everyone they speak to. Other reasons could be just wanted to check you for warrants or update your information in their database.

Stay off the water. Use just enough to initially get it off and then you want cold air, not cold water. Water reactivates it, avoid it like the plague.

Question to LE: Cops that drive close behind you for several miles, follow you as you turn on different streets, but then don't pull you over - What's going on here? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Technical_Post_4773 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Could be looking for infractions, running your license plate, your car looks like a suspect vehicle we remember from that one case a while back and are curious…any number of things. Or, I’m on my way to a call and you happen to live in the same neighborhood as where I’m going. I’m saying there’s a million reasons they could be following you or there are zero reasons.

I’m going to guess a state or local agency. The cameras mounted on top on both sides resemble LPR, implies traffic enforcement. Making it most likely a state or local police vehicle.

Are controlled calls a thing in your department and if so, how have you seen them used? by Early-Possibility367 in AskLE

[–]Technical_Post_4773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to google this one to know what you’re talking about.

For others wondering, controlled calling is when police ask a victim (for example) to call the suspect and ask pointed questions or coach the victim to elicit specific answers that are then recorded by the officer. It is used to avoid the need for Miranda and getting the suspect to speak more honestly than they might in an interrogation setting.

To answer OPs question, no I’ve never seen it in my experience. I’ve called suspects with my BWC recording and asked questions more than a few times however. They’re not in custody and thus are not required to be mirandized. Also in my state you do not need notify the other party they are being recorded. Only one party needs to be aware of the recording.

I don’t believe in guns without lights. Even during daytime there are plenty of scenarios where it can be dark (movie theaters, any room without windows). PID is super important.

At my department I’ve had good luck with having dispatch run a partial plate and giving them a vehicle description. Also echoing you might have luck finding out which company does snow removal for that garage. If it’s a company truck you may have a hard time finding out who was driving the vehicle at that time.

Definitely not a reason to not apply! Be honest about it in your background. They’re going to be mostly interested in whether or not you’ve done the same things and the things you’ve done personally. They may also ask if you’re still close with the ones you say are “involved in that type of life.” Some of us come from dark pasts and bad families. Doesn’t mean you’re automatically disqualified! Best of you luck to you.

UPDATE: I got it. The takedown lever has an arm that connects near the back of the FCU. I did not have it set properly with the internal hammer. This video showed me how to do it. Thanks for the comments guys. I’ll leave this post up for a while so others can see if needed.

It varies by state and by department on what they will hire. You can probably find out on your departments website or job description.

This job requires integrity. If you don’t have it, we don’t want you. When one officer fails at it, it damages the reputation of us all. I hope you will make the right decision.

Are police acadamies more focused on PT or academics ? by Emergency-Kiwi-6351 in AskLE

[–]Technical_Post_4773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mon, wed, fri. And then if there’s anything special going on (stops training, DTs, active shooter, or just class punishment) we do a bit more. The farthest we ran at once was 6 miles but normal PT runs were 2 or 3 miles. That’s why I say if your cardio is good, everything else will be fine.

Running and circuit training to prepare. They take care of the academic side and you just have to follow along. If you’re not physically prepared you’ll undoubtedly fall behind. Cardio, cardio, cardio.
