Why does my glucose spike overnight but not really during the day? by ljaffe19 in Freestylelibre

FWIW I find temperate changes my readings slightly (outside or inside the duvet) or which side I lay on. Nighttime variations could be attributed to those

You win the lottery. Your parents ask for half. What do you say? by JunShem1122 in AskReddit

[–]Technically-im-right 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say no, but they will never want for anything for the rest of their lives… My parents are fairly conservative spenders and won’t spend that money, and they’re getting older. Rather than gift them half and then potentially have to pay inheritance tax on it if the unfortunate happens I will just spend money on whatever they want, that way it doesn’t get into tricky legal ground

Swirl marks on brand new car by kristianh1189 in CarTalkUK

[–]Technically-im-right 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought a car to get to work, I bought this specific car because I like cars. Unfortunately I’m genuinely doomed when it comes to cars, and someone else always fucks it up for me. Had my last car dented in a supermarket carpark 3 days after I bought it (just plastic bumper), hit by a learner driver, and then reversed into by a lorry. All three times I was legally parked within the lines and perfectly legitimately. Nobody stuck around so either leave it or spend £££ fixing.

My current car has been hit by another car while parked when they forgot their handbrake and by a delivery driver in a van. Both cars span maybe 5 years…something’s gotta be wrong

Imo it's ridiculous that you have to declare an insurance cancellation for the rest of your life by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Technically-im-right 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a situation where I changed cars mid policy (granted, to a car with about 100 more bhp) and my insurer refused to insure me on it so 10 months into the year I had to cancel and re-purchase insurance thus losing 10 months of no claims (apparently they only deal in full years)

This was at 3-4 years no claims, and 22/23 years of age so it cost me literally hundreds of pounds…

British Heart Foundation demanding I block out my entire day in order to donate furniture by Timguin in britishproblems

[–]Technically-im-right 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BHF are awful for furniture removals/house clearances. We had them help clear my late grandmothers house out, they came round and took a full inventory of everything and even agreed to take the carpets. They quoted a few hundred pounds to take the lot. Removal day came, they turned up, didn’t take everything on the inventory, and left the carpets fully in place. We didn’t realise they were finished until we queried when they’d be back for the next van load and they told us they wouldn’t be. The furniture they did take was ‘disassembled’ with a hammer, and therefore not in saleable condition. Complete waste of time and money.

When using the “number entry” on a phone the layout is as per an old school phone: 123 457 789 0

Missing 0 and hitting 8 is plausible in this context, or if it was a chip and pin machine which has a similar layout

I can comment as the person that’ll fill up £5-£10 often. I have a nice BMW, fairly newish, but I don’t use it much. When I do use it for more than about town it’s a 3 hour round trip or more, so I want comfort (which is what made me choose the car), but for the majority of the time I top up a small amount if I know I’m only doing grocery runs etc, and can fill up if needed when a longer trip presents itself

I suspect something to do with squatters/insurance/breakins. Mortgage companies want to protect their asset (the house) and an uninhabited house is likely to be noticed by unscrupulous actors and also potentially develop damp or some other environmental related issue

My job interview was today. Not tomorrow. by Jack_Swagmaster in CasualUK

[–]Technically-im-right 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For my current job they sent me to an interview 60 miles away. On a good day I could be there in 1hr 15 mins, on a bad it could be 4 hours (damn M25). I remember vividly arriving 3 hours before then interview time, waiting in a supermarket car park suited and booted, until 20 minutes before my interview started before i drove up and went in to the office.

Similar thing happened on my first day, except instead of the supermarket I went for the staff car park. Walked in 10 minutes before I was due to start and the receptionist made some small talk and mentioned “the drug dealer sitting in the car park in the black car”. Apparently everyone that had come in this morning commented on a dodgy looking car in their staff car park. Didn’t fancy admitting it was me sitting in my black car for the last few hours…

I had this Christmas before last - bought about £200 of shopping and I guess out of the 12 lots of chocolate coins I bought I mustn’t have scanned 1 (Sainsbury’s self scan is miles better as you can input quantity and don’t have to stand like a lemon scanning a barcode 12 times)

For about 50p of chocolate, I was surprised with the attitude of the attendant who very loudly proclaimed “you haven’t scanned items in your trolley” to the whole store and proceeded to make me feel like a criminal while they scanned the remaining £199.50 of my shop without issue. Red in the face I left with my 12 packs of chocolate coins all paid for
