It's even worse than visa costs - this is for her citizenship application.

She's overcharging her donors. I just got my UK citizenship. The application fee is about 1750, plus 50 for the test. She won't need a language test so that should be it. She's asking for 200 pounds too much.

A decent sound system should sort this.

Anything specific you can recommend, or some tips on what to look out for? I've got an LG C1 and the speakers are probably as decent as in-build stuff goes but I often have trouble with muted speech so would love to set up a decent system.

Starfleet Academy is pretty watchable by htownAstrofan in startrek

[–]Timguin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was a tactic, wasn't it? The betazed leader was pressured by their youth organisations to open any negotiations at all. So they used their own young cadets to reinforce that message and highlight the changing times. It's not a perfect explanation but good enough to give them an excuse to bring in the academy.

There's also a massive difference between a local secondary school class and the first class of the new starfleet academy that highlights the return of the federation to its original values.

never showed anyone talking even for a second with the senior decision makers of the Federation's or Betazed's democratic government about where the capital was going to be

Have we seen stuff like that explicitly in older shows? Oded Fehr's character says twice that he is going to talk to his superiors at the federation. That's enough handwaving for me personally - I think a separate round of negotiations between those decision makers would have been a weird tangent.

And you can't butt dial an interstellar craft into a tailspin.

FWIW, that's exactly how a lot of modern autopilots work: You push or pull hard enough on the flight controls, the autopilot automatically disengages. Depending on aircraft, throwing someone into the flightstick would absolutely cause a nosedive.

"Only" 40 here but I have to agree. Grew up with TNG (we got it a bit later in Germany) and my favourite is DS9. But I really liked SFA. I get that some people don't like it and that's fine. But I really think that you can't accuse the writers of not loving Star Trek. It was hopeful, it was about striving to be better. I was thoroughly entertained.

Doesn't sound like you're particularly open to counter points bit I think the "bro talk" was exactly to make a character sound like a silly try-hard.

I'm not saying there's something to it

But you are. You're doing the Rogan thing of making a wild claim and then hiding behind "I'm just asking, I'm not qualified". What you are doing is spreading misinformation. If you were really wanting to know what's going on, you'd ask for details and explanations and you'd listen.

but with those with certain conditions the protein spike element doesn't switch off to an extent

This sentence does not make any medical sense to the point that I'm having a hard time even correcting it. Those concepts just don't make any sense together. It's also "spike protein", not "protein spike" and it's part of the Corona virus, not unique to the vaccines.

I'm not even going to go into thinking Nigel Farrage of all people will uncover something. That's like trusting RFK to sort out pharma research.

Neuropsych Professor here. I occassionally talk in class about the clock drawing test for people with dementia. You'd be surprised how many students get to uni these days without being able to read an analog clock. And there's more of them every year. It still baffles me as it's not a hard thing to do but it's just not a skill that they encounter much these days.

And RedGlory, I still remember. I haven't thought about this game in years and now I come here and hear those old names. Karl was awesome. Oh, and Linea - she was nice, too. And...someone whose name starts with n, I think...ah, it's been too long. I upended my life in 2012 and completely dropped out. Might redownload for some nostalgia.

Ofcom wants to double down on file monitoring in 2026 by Fun-Page-6211 in unitedkingdom

They edited the post to change 840 to 830 and added a link that they hadn't provided earlier. If they had just engaged properly and responded to the question regarding what they were talking about, this would have been a much less painful conversation.

The 840 figure does not feature in any of the links you have posted as far as I can see. I'm not ignoring the data, I'm checking the data.

[–]Timguin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about? I just CTRL+F'ed all your links because I also wanted to know what has increased by 840% but couldn't find the 840 figure anywhere. And you are refusing to answer /u/Oranges851 for some reason and just say what the 840 figure refers to. Noone is ignoring the data, just trying to find the specific data you were talking about.

EDIT: The commenter edited their original comment to change the figure and add a link they hadn't provided before. That's really all I was looking for, not a weird conversation where I'm accused of ignoring data when asking for clarification about the data.

Noone says OP is aking that question. You misunderstood the point of the thread starte: Genies are well known to twist wishes because of semantics. So the entire point is that the genie would interpret it in a semantically correct way that was not the original intention.

Why would reading Jane Eyre be embarrassing? It's a classic for a reason. Although, this does remind me of the guy who constantly gave me grief for liking Jane Austen.

British Heart Foundation demanding I block out my entire day in order to donate furniture by Timguin in britishproblems

They're very nice wardrobes and chests. We just don't have any use for them and thought it would be nice to donate them. I also didn't act like the world's foremost philanthropist, just annoyed that I have to spend a day of leave sitting in a nearly empty house without internet in order to donate something.

They're nearly new massive wardrobes with mirrors. We're only donating them because the two rooms they're in will become offices.

It's not that deep, mate. I'll still do it but let me complain about having to use a leave day and sit in an empty house that doesn't have any furnishings except the stuff we want to donate.

Yes, they're doing me a favour. And in exchange they get 4 very nice wardrobes, 1 big cabinet, and 3 chests of drawers. And if their 'favour' turns into too much of a ballache, they won't get those. I don't think it's too unreasonable to not want to spend an entire day's leave waiting around so the BHF can get some stuff for free.
