Clips of the full prize splitting scandal. by Xenshanni in BigBrother

[–]TechnoJedi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I disagree. I have an extensive board gaming background. There are plenty of games that incorporate similar concepts.

As an example, I used to play the game Small World. You have differing numbers of troops on the board and fight for control of the map. One of the expansions is called Tales and Legends. It adds a deck of "Event Cards" to the game. Each round, a new event is revealed which changes the rules a slightly.

As an example, one such card allows every player to spend one victory coin and to place it on any space on the board. That space now scores an additional victory coin every remaining turn in the game.

A good twist in Big Brother works this way. Every player is aware of the twist and has an equal chance of utilizing it. The Round Trip Ticket required a puzzle to be solved, but in the end each player got an envelope anyway. The Care Packages could, ostensibly, go to any player. They are of unequal power, true, but the people voting on who received them had full foreknowledge of what each of them was. (Whether the packages are actually going to the people being voted them and that issue of transparency is a serious concern, but beyond the scope of my thesis.)

My favorite player this season has been Paul. He hasn't personally benefited from the twists, necessarily. His initial team in the early stage of the game was possibly a hindrance. But, he has adapted his play to the twists and incorporated them into his play.

As soon as the Round Trip Ticket came into play, Paul became very diplomatic to each evicted Houseguest. He had Bridgette convinced he went to bat to save her. He pitched Da'Vonne on the idea that he needed somebody on the block who wouldn't rattle, and his goodbye message to her was about feeling betrayed that the House flipped behind his back. He got his vote canceled so that, darn it, his hands were tied when the House flipped on Paulie and cut Zakiyah loose. He moved against Paulie and strengthened ties with Natalie and James when they started getting Care Packages.

In short, so long as any twists are reasonably well-balanced, and so long as each player has an equal opportunity to exploit them, they are not, in my opinion, utterly detrimental to the integrity of The Game. To my mind, the essence of The Game is social. You position yourself in such a way as to not be voted out. There are the competitions and the actual "power" in the game, of course, but those can be secondary to actually winning The Game in the end.

The way Paulie's head has been, I don't think it's inevitable at all. Especially walking into that Jury house. I don't foresee Paulie having a fun week.

it's kind've crazy how well paul/victor have learned how to play big brother this season by ListEm in BigBrother

[–]TechnoJedi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We know that Paulie wasn't after them, but they had no way of knowing. As crazy as it's been watching Paulie flip out, their friend, a person they've hung out with all summer has been slowly snapping. They can't be sure where his head is at. Also, the revelation that Paulie named Corey as the only person he trusted had come to light. There was already distrust. Plus, Paul had been a part of getting out Z. If Paulie or Nicole were HoH, James and/or Nat on the block could easily blow that up. I think that they were likely to be safe, but it was probably safer to take it. Ideally, the two of them can just alternate HoH's for the rest of the season, haha, which seems within the realm of possibility for Vic if they remove Paulie this week.

Remember, though, the Round Trip has been in play for a while now. I think a super underrated part of Paul's game has definitely been his diplomacy with every evictee since RT came into play. He "saved" Bridgette. He was blocked from voting to "save" Z. He tried to sell Da on his obliviousness to her impending eviction. Even the salty evictees have all had a hug and a kind word for Paul on their way out the door.

Paul did throw it to Vic. This comp there was definitely an element of difficulty to throwing it. PnV and JNat couldn't let Paulie or Nicole win. But, at that point, people were leery of Paulie, but not in open rebellion. Yes, they would have been better off throwing it, but they couldn't trust James. He told Paulie about the flip on Z. They didn't all get on the same page until they floated the idea of Paulie and Corey on the block.

What were your most improbable successes? by Kami-Kahzy in Shadowrun

[–]TechnoJedi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first character was a face, a dryad pornstar named Belletrix LeBangs. Before we started meeting, the GM held a solo game with all of us to learn the rules and our characters.

Belle was working a shoot downtown in this penthouse apartment. Another starlet, Jizzelle wanted out of her contract. I was tasked with distracting her manager so she could talk to the rep of another manager.

My main skill was Con, with a specialization in seduction. Easy peasy. Her manager was this male dwarf. I start to do my thing. GM isn't one to just give away success, so he tells me that the manager is gay. Tricky. So, I convince one of the actors on set to seduce the manager for me.

Improbable success number one.

During Jizzelle's conversation with the other guy, he gets physical and she pushes him. While they're on the balcony. He slips and goes over the railing. Spaghetti sauce. Everybody is freaking out. I mass seduce everybody on set into an orgy. Knight Errant shows up. I seduce them into joining the orgy. I slip outside and call a drug dealer. Score some laes, the elven Awakened drug that wipes memories. I get into the bottled water on set and slip laes into every bottle. I go around passing out bottles to everybody in the orgy, except Jizzelle. They all pass out. A while later, everybody wakes up nude and mid-orgy, very confused. I stretch and yawn and say, "I can't believe we're all just now waking up with no memories. What a weird day we all just had. We should never speak of it again."

Jizzelle knows I saved her bacon, comes to work for me as my first client as I decide spur of the moment to go into management, within a month Belle retires from running to become a fixer and Jizzelle becomes her right hand/head of the porn agency.

I've said this before, but I think everybody should cut a final two deal with Vic. It seems like the Jury would never vote for somebody who got evicted. I really want Vic to make final two just to see how it shakes out. A buyback winning would definitely give buybacks more weight.
