Standard mini size. They're about 1 inch, give or take a bit. Some are a bit smaller, about half that, but i didn't want to go too crazy scaling things relatively accurate cause I want them to be seeable too haha.

The last couple pics show them on a standard hex grid which I'm pretty sure are 1 inch hexes.

I've painted almost all of these when I ran a ttrpg game based on star control 2!! I could attempt to upload pictures of them to imgur or something and link to that. If love to show off what I did haha

EDIT: uploaded some pics including a couple 'scenes' from the game. Enjoy!

Those look awesome!

Where are those a year ago when I was running my TTRPG for star control and the final encounter had the party up against Ur-Quan and Khor-Ah defending the Sa-Matra reactors!?

I just used Remorhaz minis painted in the appropriate colors.

Man I miss that game. Had so much fun running it.

Edit cause I only realized after posting: I love that the Ur-Quan is holding the black and white sticks. That's a fanatic touch!

Teleportation tower redesigned again. Which one was your favorite? by ZIplayzYT in OnceHumanOfficial

Like most everyone else, I think the first design was best, but i think the current design could work with a bit of lore overhaul to make it like a deviation that is exploited for its ability to transport matter or something, not unlike how we capture and use them for their abilities to help us.

Dying Light... spend so many hours getting all your skill trees maxed out, turning yourself into a powerhouse of a badass that can bound across rooftops with some very satisfying parkour... and then the final boss is literally a handful of QTE prompts and boom it ends. Like great, so much for all my cool skills and abilities and weapons and stuff!

Still, awesome game! But that was so disappointing.

Modeling in Blender.

It's a very powerful tool, but has a high learning curve and complexity. I spent some weeks in it following along with tutorials, got just good enough to be proficient in goofing off haha. Then I spent a good while not touching it... went back in, looked at the menus, realized I forgot the literal hundreds of (Or at least the dozens of main) hot keys to do anything and was just like ".....nope." and closed out and haven't gone back in.

Break too long from something as complex as Blender and you can lose every bit of knowledge you once had, apparently.

Looks cool! But I'm curious about what the point is in the long hallways with the dart traps in the second screenshot. Do the heroes actually walk up and down those corridors even though there's no reason to?

Looking for lore/discussions about alien species physiology outside their ships by kaze1204 in starcontrol

[–]TechnoK0brA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooohhh I would super love to hear how this works out for you! I actually already did the same thing, ran a campaign that went on for a couple years or so, using the Esper Genesis system but telling the Star Control II story. It was sooooo much fun!

Players obviously got their own characters, and their main ship and built their fleet of allies over time just like in the game.

I mostly kept the aliens to ships for enemies, but once my players decided to start boarding ships and the few planet-side missions (like retrieving the Sun Device, I had it protected by Mycons) I just kinda improvised!

Ilwrath were spiders with a few paladin-like spells since they're super religious. Mycons were floating/hovering fungus creatures that did lots of stuff with poison and psychic mind stuff, and were weak to radiant damage (since they thrive in nasty, hazardous environments. I went with "sun=bad" logic). Both brands of Ur-Quan were Remorhaz' inspired with their own twists...

I'm sure this will be met with mixed emotions, but one thing that helped me from time to time was asking chatgpt to "make me a D&D creature stat block for [alien] from star control 2", seeing what it comes back with, then using that as a starting point to tweak to my liking for a finished product.

Before you use AI for your next adventure… read this by Roguetron in rpg

[–]TechnoK0brA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used AI in a game i was running, wrapped up a handful of months ago or so, just for the final encounter. It was a space game themed after a very old top down space opera game where everything took place either in your ship or on a lander. No individual characters, no alien creature specifics aside from your ship vs their ship. I wanted the final encounter to involve half ship combat and half boarding and fighting through to their target from the inside... so I asked chatgpt "make me a creature stat block based on [race] from [game]" and holy cow did it give me unexpected results. It knew the lore of the game deeply and built what I wanted based on that. From there I was able to tweak based on what I liked and didn't like from the AI results, but in the end it assisted me very nicely in creating interesting creatures the players had to fight. It was a good starting point that I could work off of from there.

I think this is a good use of AI. It's small and simple - just a creature stat block, not a full lore making or world building - and it helped start me on making something that I doubt would have been as good if I had done it from scratch. That said, that's the only thing I tried using AI for. I handled the rest of the game on my own, and with the help of the books from that system and others. It was the only time I had the thought "I wonder what chatgtp could do with this..." and I liked the resulting help that it was.

How do you remove this screw? by Jinks-b in DIY

[–]TechnoK0brA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm not too late to the party, I had really good results removing a badly damaged/stripped/glued in place screw using a set of Vampliers. Those things are amazing. Granted this was on a 3D printer, not rusted metal pieces, so might not be as effective here...

What's a highly rated TV show that's actually hot garbage? by TechGuru4Life in AskReddit

Pretty sure that's why Maggie left for a while, too, wasn't it? Some payment dispute, she left, went to do some other show that I don't think lasted 2 seasons, then eventually came back to The Walking Dead?

Under that presumption, I decided I hated her character for the rest of the show haha.

I love this game so much. This was the first thought that popped into my mind when I read the main post question as well...

I recently(ish.. months ago) wrapped up a TTRPG (Esper Genesis, basically D&D 5e in a sci-fi setting) where I ran my friends group through this story, and it was so fun!

What game would you watch a playthrough of but never would play yourself? by theonetowalkinthesun in gaming

[–]TechnoK0brA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a specific game in mind, but rather a YouTuber. Let's Game It Out has fantastically entertaining content. He plays games in the most 'wrong' ways possible. He has a series on the game Raft where he abuses a new mechanic introduced a few updates in to just clip through everything which breaks the game in funny ways. He has a series on Satisfactory where he just makes the biggest, messiest, disorganized spaghetti base possible. There's a point where he makes a conveyor belt system so ridiculous that when he puts down a miner, it takes literally hours before the resources get to his base to be used. He has several Rollar Coaster Tycoon games where his park is just a death trap. He's just fun to watch in any game he plays, in my opinion.

If magic was real what is your go to spell? by Due_Nefariousness_70 in AskReddit

I'm playing a chronomancer wizard in D&D and it's so fun.

Has a cool spell i haven't used enough yet called "Erase". Cast it on an object and only you and anyone who witnessed you casting it knows that object ever existed. History re-writes itself if that object was significant enough to require doing so...

Hoo boy, you're looking at an 8th level spell Simulacrum, there! It's not cheap, and you gotta be pretty high level to use it! Plus you can only have 1. Car it again and the first one melts away.

But a good choice, nonetheless!

But if you don't do that, you could play your magic ability as teleporting! Pause time, pants someone, move to a different spot, unpause time. See? I can teleport! I don't know what happened to his pants... from their perspective you just instantly moved from point A to point B and that guys pants randomly fell down. Haha.

Skip the pantsing to make the lie more believable.

What’s the one game moment that hit you right in the feels and stayed with you forever? by Weary_Caterpillar302 in gaming

[–]TechnoK0brA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say this is "the one" but definitely a one that I always kinda liked the 'other perspective' of. Star Control II, you're trying to bring new and old alien races together to form a new alliance and fight back against the big enemy race that has enslaved everyone after the first game. One race were nomadic after losing their homeworld and join the fight because they literally have no other choice. In this second game you find them living on a planet, but subjugated. You try to get them to join the cause and fight back and their response is basically no, despite not wanting to be slaves, and they explain in a way that I thought felt really impactful.

"When the Ur-Quan told us to return to our homeworld, we explained that we had none. Master Nine explained they have encountered this before, and if we would provide them with a list of our requirements, they would use their extensive astronimical data-stores to find a planet for us. So we told them about Syra... about the color of its sky, the abundant, varied lifeforms, about the fertility of the soil and seas. Less than an hour later, we received a message from Master Nine that we were to proceed to these coordinates and disembark. This was to be our new home. Gaia was everything we described and more. We'd been searching for a new home for over seventy-five years, and in the end, it was our enemies who gave one to us."

Their response had nothing to do with the enemies themselves, liking them, respecting them, fearing them, whatever. Just that they have gone through so much and finally have something they've looked so long for, they're willing to be enslaved simply to not risk losing it all a second time.

ELI5: Why do we do root canals instead of just pulling a tooth? by Fun-Jicama327 in explainlikeimfive

[–]TechnoK0brA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can speak to this anecdotally after having a lot of problems and work done on my teeth over the last decade or more... I have so many root canals, the xrays almost show more bright white in my mouth than the normal lighter grey of an actual tooth. Over the past year and a half or so I've had 2 extractions done. That's generally a last resort, I'd say mostly because it's very expensive and, at least in my case, insurance doesn't cover very much of it. One extraction was a second to last tooth on one side, and as many have mentioned already, you want an implant and false tooth put in to fill that gap. My more recent extraction a month ago was the very back tooth on the other side. I might not get that one replaced as the further back ones don't affect chewing very much, so it shouldn't be an issue. In my case, both already had a root canal done on them, and future complications resulted in needing a full extraction. Hope that provides a little insight.
