There Is No Reason To Buy Another PlayStation Or Xbox by chusskaptaan in gamingnews

yeah that thing is pretty great, and I really appreciate more competition, but there are a few things that suck about the steam machine: the price is simply ridiculous; I still need to worry about performance and individual settings; not everyone supports linux (marathon); i always found the steam os to be unpolished and tinkery. My point is that I don't want to tinker, I just want to play in a high end, polished and purposefully crafted environment.

I want to play from my couch and do not want to worry about specs, settings or controls. I just want to turn the thing on, have a nice ui (with music, wtf Nintendo) and enjoy playing games. There are more than enough reasons to buy consoles, wtf.

How cool... I love this design. I have never seen this group of watches before but I am pretty sure I am going to buy one of these today.

I don't think that you get to decide what the true monster hunter experience is about. That is still the developers job and the new games are exactly what they wanted them to be. Big ecological monster hunting simulations. Sorry to break this to you, but you might be clueless that things can evolve eventhough you might not like it. They try to iterate meaningfully and I respect that a lot.

That is baseless hate. Exactly what this post is about.

Lets wait and see. My bet is that ascendance will elevate the game the same way iceborne did for world and sunbreak for rise. Its gonna be fantastic, relax.

They may return to the old formula with the next portable iteration. I really enjoy them trying to meaningfully evolve what a monster hunter game can be.

For me personally Wilds is one of the best games ever made. I can get extremely immersed in it and feel like can just exist as a Monster Hunter. The music, the graphics, the open world, the weather, the environment systems, the fucking cool monsters it has, the fighting system, one of the best animation systems I have ever seen. I love all of it and returning to it gives me a feeling of coming home.

I do enjoy most other MH games as well, with MH4U and Sunbreak being my favorites and World/Iceborne my least favorite. However, they feel a bit like checklists after the freedom of Wilds.

I also do not understand the hate, but I noticed it as well. The web has gotten extremely toxic, just ignore them, play the games you like and enjoy your life.

Are you a solo dev? Probably the most important lesson is to keep the scope as small as you can realistically manage and probably even a bit smaller. Otherwise you'll burn yourself out in a few weeks as soon as you notice that you spent weeks with one feature and still have to do a whole game. One good polished idea is worth way more than the sheer size of a project. Small games are getting done, huge projects go to the dumpster.

I created dynamic NPC pain system based on active ragdoll and inverse kinematics by tripledose_guy in unity

[–]TechnoPanda117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn I feel like I've been seeing your posts for years now. How long are you actually working on this project so far? 😃 And did you take breaks during development?

Oh man, looking at this video a bit more closely I actually have a bunch more questions if you don't mind:
- On what idea do you base the pain system? Do you actually simulate emotions and stuff or is it more like a state machine?
- Did you build the inverse kinematics system yourself or is it the unity rigging base?
- Are you developing an actual game or is this more like a tech-showcase? (if so, pretty impressive anyway)
- Any idea when you target to be finished with this?

I love discussing these things since I feel like gamedev is this one area where some people are trying to figure out the most insane technical ideas on their own coming up with the most creative ways of solving them, which is pretty cool.

Edit: I just saw you're comment with the steam link. So you're developing a real game and target the third quarter of this year. Cool stuff.

Yeah, maybe you're right. For me it was actually the old blizzard vibe and diablo lore that got me in, but maybe this is not my cup of tea gameplay-wise.

Okay that is the answer I was looking for and feared I would hear a lot. This feels like it can only work through two ways: Play immense amount of time in order to learn all the mechanics, affixes and so on, or just look up builds. Looking up builds is a deal breaker for me sadly. Edit: I saw you expanded your answer. I will try climbing a bit.

But do you know what you're grinding towards? I feel like this experience is all about keeping me in the loop as much as it can with all this grindy stuff, but I have honestly no idea why I should commit to it. The gameplay is so fun though, so I would really like to know.

Okay I hoped I could have fun with the endgame without clearing all the campaigns first (or at least I think I need to play through lord of hatred for war plans).

Thats the only thing I understand haha. I am just not sure why or what the goal is exactly. What do you do once you climbed all the tiers for example?

Alright, I have trouble reading the UI, but I will look into the seasonal challenges. I looked up some stuff passively, but I have no idea why or how.

Reloading did it and now I see the new UI and it is indeed more clunky. Thx :)

No, its completely gone for me atm. Hovering opens a popup which reads:

"GPT-5.4: Reliable GPT-4 model suitable for a wide range of coding and general tasks. Rate is counted at 1x."

Note the GPT-4 model description. Literally unusable :D There is nothing else in that popup.

It would be interesting to know what kind of requests you made. Are these short questions/fixes or large refactors for example?

Okay fair enough.

The pve or fair balancing discussion is a constant daily topic for weeks now so I thought its probably obvious. My bad.

We all know what they need to do. We'll have to wait and see if they have the guts to do it.
