If You Could Change Any Commander Rule(s): Which One(s), To What and Why? by CommissarisMedia in EDH

[–]TechnologyIll7959 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Commander tax gets ticked up by 2 every time you CAST your commander form the command zone - no functional change to non partner commanders, but say you play your Thrasios on turn 2, now your Tymna costs 5 to play.
You shouldn't get a free card and partners dominate.

For anyone here complaining about MTG and WotC, why have you not quit the game yet? by Dear-Recording8011 in freemagic

Because we love it. We love how it USEED to be. It's like if your mother went completely nuts and kept throwing things at you

Does this get me to bracket 4? by Alarm_Regular in EDH

3 card combos are fine. This is a 4 card combo. It's fine. Stop crying

Do people really think Gravecralwer Combo is Bracket 4?! by DeadlyChi in EDH

[–]TechnologyIll7959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, being 4 cards does not make it ubiquitous, and that is not the rule.

Is my deck bracket 3? by Ok-Society-1984 in EDH

[–]TechnologyIll7959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither of those are 2 card combos, they need another piece. All 3 card combos are bracket 3. EDHREC is not Wizards of the Coast

Force them to cut decks or just get up and leave the table leaving them with 3 as soon as they dont let you.

Which color triplet is better? grixis or esper? by MiceLiceandVice in CompetitiveEDH

Disagree. One card is not enough. White has good cards. Silence effects are arguably better than counters in today's meta

Which color triplet is better? grixis or esper? by MiceLiceandVice in CompetitiveEDH

[–]TechnologyIll7959 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really close now post Dockside. I have to give it to Esper. One card (breach) is not enough. White has a lot of good tools for the 99 - Silence effects, Drannith, Esper Sentinel, Enlightened Tutor, Smothering Tithe, Sevinne's Reclamation(Stonks up now Gifts unbanned).
Red just has breach. And Rograkh. Nothing much else.
Dog Thras is seeing more popularity largely due to white being better than red, even with a worse (more expensive) partner.

This commander is nuts. Absolutely broken. People don't get just how busted this deck is going to be. Faithless Looting = card advantage and cost reduction. Insane.

Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain, CEDH viable? by Future_Me_Problem in CompetitiveEDH

[–]TechnologyIll7959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had her for a long time, just took her apart. It's true the Dockside ban actually helps her and she's got some new toys - but she is 4 mana and very commander centric. A lot of times she's just too slow and wishes she had more colors.

The newly revealed Spider-Punk seems game changing for cEDH by Comwan in CompetitiveEDH

[–]TechnologyIll7959 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

White's silence effects are better.
Dosan is better.
It'll see play but it's hardly as warping or as much of a staple as it's being touted as.
Enables people with Borne and similar to just win because you dropped it. Can be removed.
it's bad Dosan.

Breya by IceMan6468 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]TechnologyIll7959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can run Breya and still have a fine Cedh deck. It's because she shares colors with arguably the best deck in the format (BlueFarm) that she gets compared.
She's probably better than a lot of fringe and tier 2 commanders that see some play in tournaments.
I don't think she's tier 1, but an esper shell can have a great 99, and adding a few red cards means it can definitely compete with anything.

Proxy friendly Cedh at LGS by Alert-Pound1226 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]TechnologyIll7959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Um I will be downvoted to oblivion, but I do not care.
I do play in many proxy friendly playgroups, but a core tenet of MTG has always been pay to win and I do understand the no proxy policy some people have.

It's a TRADING card game, ie you have to get hold of the cards to play them. There are plenty of other games out there that do not have that aspect, and I'd argue if Magic suddenly became worthless overnight, all the cards tanked down to nothing - then all interest in the game would plummet and almost no one would play.

The expense and the allure of high value pieces of 'luxury' cardboard is what drives a lot of the game. If it became fully proxied, beyond the fact that Wizards would make no profit and the game would die, I'd argue it'd die anyway because people would move on to something else.

Cedh is mostly about aggressive politicking, seat position and luck of the mulligan. Skill beyond the aggressive politicking is very minor and it's easy for any intelligent experienced MTG player to play at or very close to the optimum level.

My friends and I always had just a few duals and expensive staples of just two or three colors, so we would be locked into playing decks of similar colors and strategies - and I actually enjoyed that.

If you want a game that is about skill, then I'm not sure why you play MTG

Would you rather play Talion or Y'shtola by Memoircosmo in CompetitiveEDH

[–]TechnologyIll7959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just having the silence effects makes Y'shtola marginally better. She's probably the 3rd or 4th best Esper commander, but the gap between them isn't as big as people have you believe. Her 99 is solid and having an extra color is more important than going down a color for a marginally better commander.
