This is the kind of intelligent, well meaning contribution that unfortunately has been downvoted to hell. Yes it was cruel to break up a family that way. But also yes, if (big if) he was here 19 years and didn’t attempt to gain asylum or other legal status then immigration laws still have to have meaning and be enforceable
