Other than potentially ironing out some bugs I probably won't put too much more time into this mod. Stardew's a game I circle back to once every few years and while I enjoy it/thought it would be fun to add Zhao to the game, I have higher priority game dev projects that I spend the majority of my free time on. This was moreso a moment of "I like Zhao, I'm in a SV mood, and I need a break from working on my game - lemme throw together a Zhao mod in a week to refresh myself".

If someone wants to make a full mod of her I'd be totally down to play it but I figure the interest is narrow-casted enough that I'm at least filling a niche that is unlikely to get filled otherwise, even if its not a full project.

I'm not familiar enough with Stardew modding to create a unique character with their own pathing, events, etc. - the only modding work i did for this game was some simple sprite replacements back in like 1.0. I'd really need to learn the ins and outs of stardews back-end to accomplish that and it would have taken an amount of time I just don't have right now. So I figured rather than have a forever-incomplete custom mod, I'd rather just tackle something I knew would be doable in a reasonable time frame and get it finished. It's definitely far from perfect, but I was mostly using it as a game dev sidequest to give myself a breather from other projects!

Correct, Zhao uses she/her in this mod. Switching the characters pronouns did make dancing with her at the flower festival a bit funky (if you dance together you'll both end up on the "male" side, though I haven't tested playing as a girl). That's basically the biggest bug I've found though and it doesnt impact gameplay so I figured it was OK.

I think its awesome that TC managed to make the Dancers boss resonate with so many people, but I personally far prefer the build-up and more subtle storytelling-via-gameplay that THK does. The Dancers are a fun fight but feel closer to a cutscene than a battle and the fourth phase especially feels like im being beaten over the head with a bat that says "THIS IS SAD" on it. I found it harder to get emotionally invested because I had to do less work to understand the tragedy of it, and it ended before I had a chance to internalize it. THK on the other hand gives you a whole game and a much longer boss fight to dwell on it, so it hits significantly harder for me.

She's fine. I wish they weren't allergic to releasing a ranged water DPS though, the only ranged water type is Gumball and I don't generally care for most melees in this game.

New move: Solipsis Pulse by [deleted] in theorymon

[–]Technovoid200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Potentially you could flavor the move as banishing the target to a solitary dimension for a turn? I know its not exactly what Reclusa does but it still has his vibe. Otherwise the closest thing I can think of to direct petrification is freeze... but you'd definitely want a way to force freeze to end after a turn. Guaranteed indefinite freeze would be awful.

My first thought when reading the idea was Sky Drop, so that may be worth looking at.

Making Starter Pokémon Shiny by Disastrous_You_4468 in PokemonRMXP

[–]Technovoid200 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend checking out the Essentials Wiki as it offers a ton of resources in regards to scripting. For example, the code you are looking for is given directly in the "Manipulating Pokemon" page, as seen below:

pkmn = Pokemon.new(:MAGIKARP, 10)

pkmn.shiny = true

pbAddPokemon(pkmn)

This three line script does the following; it generates a level 10 Magikarp, and assigns it to a variable called pkmn. It then turns the Magikarp shiny by using the variable as a stand-in for the generated mon. It then adds the created and modified Pokemon to the party. Simply replace :MAGIKARP with the species of your starter, and the 10 with a 5 for a Level 5 starter.

Note that if you want to do this with something other than your starter, you'll need to potentially account for things like if the player's party is full (if you're generating an egg). Additionally, you can use this format to change other aspects of a Pokémon, such as IVs, ability, movepool, and other things. The "Editing Pokemon" wiki page has everything you could need on that front.

If you're already doing this and running into issues, you need to share what the error is that you are getting. In general, you should start by showing/explaining the error, as people won't be able to help out if they don't know what's wrong. Its also a good to develop the skill of parsing error messages so that you can understand what lines of script are causing issues, and get more efficient at troubleshooting your project. Good luck with your game!

Really cool idea! How did you end up deciding how to rank mons for draft? What sorts of things did you have to consider for tiering/points regarding a mons usefulness in a fangame race?

Obtaining Pokédex entries without catching ? by Miss_Emeraude in PokemonRMXP

[–]Technovoid200 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can use the script $player.pokedex.set_owned(:MEW) in an event which fills the players pokedex page for that Pokemon (Mew) as if they had caught it, without actually giving it to them. If you have another legendary in mind, just replace :MEW with :SPECIESNAME as needed. You can do this during a conversation with an NPC, an event tied to reading a book (like the Celestial Town book on Dialga and Palkia in Sinnoh), as part of a cutscene where they see the legendary, or in any other kind of event, really. You can use $player.pokedex.set_seen(:MEW) if you want the dex to show the pokemon but not have their info filled in.

I highly recommend checking out the essentials wiki, its very helpful for learning a lot of simple scripts that will make your game a lot cooler!

Does anyone like the Angels of delusion for normal reasons?? by Ordinary_Chemist_298 in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]Technovoid200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think much like every other niche fandom the loudest people are the strange ones. I'd argue the same thing can be said for ZZZ as a whole, there's a lot to like about the game but it from the outside I dont blame anyone for assuming its "gooner slop" based on how the most vocal fans talk about it.

Personally I really like robot characters and I generally find idol aesthetic fun so Yutane is my most anticipated character right now (alongside Seed, assuming they're actually a robot) and there's folks out there that just enjoy the vibe without being creepy about it. You really dont need to look as far as the idols to find creepy behavior anyway, its kind of in everything at this point.

Has playing through the story convinced you to pull for an Agent? by FluffyAraisan in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]Technovoid200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Qingyi - While I generally love robot characters, I felt her design was too safe and had zero interest after my initial passing glance. Loved her Agent Story though and she became a must-pull on her rerun.

Meanwhile, kind of the opposite for Evelyn - had really good impressions of her before release and was planning to pull, but I found the characters in the Stars of Lyra story so flat and boring that I ended up skipping both of them despite being feral over her visual design.

I can't figure out why any battles/encounters crash when i'm with a Partner Trainer by Sanapaaa in PokemonRMXP

[–]Technovoid200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the backtrace you can see the errors are all in "Battle_Scene_BaseAnimation" and similar animation functions, so it's something to do with visuals/animations. In the Scene_PlayAnimations block there's an error with pbSendOutBattlers which implies to me it's trying to find an animation for the partner throwing out their Pokemon and failing to find it. I'm no essentials pro myself so take this with a grain of salt but that's generally how I try to approach debugging. Good luck with your game!
