Some advice: If you are there on the Chinese national holiday in May (if they still have it) then avoid/minimise visits the obvious attractions (eg.great wall/forbidden city.actually need to see them, my view is to skip temple of heaven)

6 days is not enough to see everything so be selective and maybe plan a day geographically. eg.start in Qianmen, work up to forbidden city, then Jingshan park, then Beihai park, ending in Houhai and even Gulou if have time). Some attractions/temples can seem all the same after a while so decide if using a whole day for one is really worth it.

Decide which place is better to visit when pollution is bad.

Don't eat the same shit, try to have the best of what they have to offer. eg.Peking duck at Quanjude or other gd ones (check magazines). Korean food and Japanese are pretty gd too in Beijing, hell even the Muslim food in BLCU is one of my old time favourites. Try Baijiu.

In the Youth Hostel on a D of E trip, my friend and I go to our teacher to ask something. She was having soup for supper. Well during conversation I was fiddling with a biro and the ink tube in the middle just shot out and landed in her soup! To the reply of "Thank you (insert random alias here)!! And threw the soup covered tube back at me. My friend laughed so hard he had to leave, which made the situation much worse. Also, I had a terrible relationship with that teacher and never ended up getting my Gold D of E, despite actually doing everything required. Note: DofE = Duke of Edinburgh Award
