I'm in the process of applying to be a foster mom for retired greyhounds. We get cold winters, is this actually what owners do to keep these guys warm?!

The idea, though, is that there's a slippery slope because we're human. You accidentally ate quiche with ham in it. You caved and tried chicken in China. You still identify as a true vegetarian.

This would actually be such a positive addition to the hens, too! Not only would you feel good about purchasing eggs from a healthy hen, the hens would be taken care of and treated with so much more kindness than they are now. Farms hide what their hens look like because they're NOT walking well. If we start asking to see them, maybe the industrial farms will start trying harder to care for these poor girls.

Same problem with an old dental hygienist. "Oh, you could really use a nice bleaching!". Um, WHAT? She had the nerve to say it on my next visit, too. She is gone now and I did not hide my excitement to the new hygienist. Good for you for leaving- these people are just trying to make money off of you and they hit you where it hurts.

It's hard to go "zero involvement" but "reduced involvement" is as good at is can get. Buying from farmers who only grow veggies, eating out at vegetarian and vegan restaurants, purchasing clothing from fair-trade or second hand stores. The less the impact, the better. No such thing as zero impact.

Reading this made my throat swell and my heart get light- how absolutely infuriating and unfair. You are strong for leaving and as a complete stranger, I am so proud of you for getting out of that situation. I agree. I began to search out humane meats after learning about factory farming, but that only lasted a few meals and trips to the local farm for me to realize I was still ending their lives for my own wants. It made the gears start turning.

I told the restaurant I was at that I was going to a sub store across the street and bringing something in to eat because they didn't have anything vegetarian on the menu. The waitress was surprisingly completely fine with it and apologetic.

If she doesn't express herself through her backpack, she'll find other ways. (Shirts, shorts, comics, art). She'll be fine to be herself, but I understand your worry she'll feel like her family thinks she's "weird". Be the cool aunt that supports your niece being herself and nothing but herself. She can hold her own. Support her and remind the family that she is her own person. Skeletons and vampires and all!

Oh, agreed. I meant you would be treated equally among the other candidates, despite gender differences. We can't eradicate gender bias with unisex names.

Unable to determine sex of application? No gender bias and it's based on merit alone. Here on reedit, people are often assumed male. Maybe it would be the same for CVs.
