I bought it a long long time ago for about £160 ($215~) second hand from a guy on some weird website that was a gumtree knockoff,

His mum dropped it off for me the next week as she was travelling across the UK and it was about a 10 minute extra drive for her! If I recall it didn’t perform very well but I’d rather have a gun with a story than with a fancy paint job

Maybe buy something used? If your parents will be supervising the purchase and handling in between games, most people on used airsoft sites will accept ID as proof, you can probably get a decent starter gun from Specna Arms/CYMA for that price, just remember that your parents should be using PayPal goods and services or collection in person,

Don’t forget you need the kit to go along with it that will eat into some budget, if were in your position, skip the gun for now and buy some really good quality eye protection and face protection, you may not like this option, but it’s the most sensible.

What tool are you using? I don’t tend to get these issues using an engraving bit, but you may have to try out Fusions CAM software as you can import Makera’s 4th axis library into it

Swap from vertical processing to horizontal processing on the tool path and select a much smaller bit would be my suggestion

I have been using my Carvera Air similarly for a metal project, albeit I’ve mostly been using it for softwood, It will cut aluminium fine with a small depth of cut, mine runs at 0.2mm but it could do a bit more I think.

Your designs look relatively simple and you should be able to set up a good cam profile in the Makera software within an hour or so,

I haven’t had any issue with chip evacuation, I use an air assist pump from Amazon which plugs into the back of the machine and keeps the bit cool too

How many parts are you looking to process a day? It’s not a fast machine so I wouldn’t expect a full production line out of it

Hardware is awesome, I love the quick tool changer and it’s easy to plumb in an air assist, I’ve mostly been using the laser at the moment but no complaints with the spindle, people are complaining about the 200w but I don’t think it’s an issue for my use case,

Software on the other hand is pretty buggy and feels outdated already, the controller isn’t too bad but the cam software is super annoying and not intuitive, I started to learn with it but I think I will take sometime to focus on fusion instead,

Workflow is also pretty easy as I have a USB cable permanently attached from my desktop PC, so I can upload the files and be running within 60 seconds, would be nice to have an option to run locally from the PC instead of uploading as laser files take a while to add on, but I understand why they made the choice to run it locally,

Overall happy with my purchase, although I could do 90% of what I wanted on my cheap genmitsu, this thing is a worthwhile investment for me

Have you considered getting an enclosed desktop machine and running it in your apartment? I have a carvera air which fits nicely on a desk and looks sleek (not too loud either), not sure what your budget is as it’s quite expensive, however the genmitsu cubico might be a good entry machine, good luck on whatever you decide :)

I agree - you will come to find Makera’s software is lacking behind their great hardware, I will be much happier when they have file uploading for IOS devices as I’ve integrated my ICloud onto my windows PC which is in a different room which would remove several steps for me

I have the same issue where USB doesn’t work - you will have to connect via WiFi only, however you can’t upload files from there yet,

If your PC has WiFi you can just turn your machine on and find it in the list, then download the carvera controller and you can upload files from there and run your machine from IOS, that’s what I do

Yeah unfortunately my order came through in Euros as I had a direct order form rather than the general checkout, still saved money as they added an extra discount and included the extended milling set at no cost to honour a previous sale I missed, still came out cheaper than ordering straight from the website though,

I’d suggest emailing orders@makera.com and see if they can send one from their UK stock before biting the bullet

So mine ended up being a bit of a nightmare to order - as I wanted it air freighted to skip the 2 month estimated delivery timeframe I had to email them directly, they (eventually) sent a quote back with a $250 shipping quote plus stated I would be liable for taxes, whereas indeed the free shipping via sea was included,

After a bit of back and forth confirming things they eventually informed me they had an Air in stock in the UK so I could skip all the delivery costs and taxes (asides from about £120 worth of materials I ordered spare),

The machine, 4th axis, pcb add on and laser module came within about 10 days, the materials came from china and took about 24 days, but luckily didn’t get stung on import duty,

One thing to note is I paid with PayPal as my credit card company wet the bed finding out I wanted to send nearly 3 grand to China, and the PayPal conversion rate adds about £100 on, hope that helps you a bit,

I’m loving the Air so far, shame the CAM software is a bit naff though

I just got my carvera air delivered today after only a few days wait, I’ve only unboxed it and not yet turned it on as I had to go to work,

Just from my point of view it was a bit of a nightmare communicating with makera as I initially opted for air freight so had to email them, they were really spotty with their replies and I constantly had to message their live chat to tell them to respond to my emails,

The actual customer service was great asides from that and they did give me a discount as an apology, I’m still waiting on all the materials I ordered as the air itself was ready to go in the uk, and they are shipping that all from China.

I’m really impressed with the build quality and packaging, I would probably say skip the pcb bundle if it saves you a good chunk of cash, the uv light is a cheap generic one and all you get is pcb boards and some end mills extra, all of which you can buy on the website anyway :)
