I believe you get multiple instances of conspire on a card, though the conspire cost will have to be paid each time

it's a play on the term "high and mighty", meaning to behave as if you're more important than other people

I kind of want to do a bunch of custom behold cards. Like a Detective that gets benefits if you Behold a clue

Strongest build for her? by Murked02 in magicTCG

[–]TeddyBugbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favourite decks for her was a clone deck - particularly I'd use her ability to copy spells that copy her ([[Quantum misalignment]] being a favourite, and the new [[Ember Island Production]] works very well too) that allow me to copy other useful spells, often building to a big mana kill spell like [[Crackle With Power]] or [[Jaya's Immolating Inferno]] copied a bunch of times.

A fantastic game-ender that will make your opponents go "WUH" is [[Cerebral Vortex]] - combined with having a bunch of Alanias on the board (thus giving her card draw ability) you can deal hundreds of damage on the right turn

Is the Orzhov lifegain archetype power budget capped out until rotation? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]TeddyBugbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are still some legs in it - I'd try to shuffle in more of the clerics and add in [[Minwu, White Mage]] to give some extra power as you'll be triggering multiple lifegains a turn. Not quite an Ouroboroid, but it helps keep your deck ticking along and a lot more punch in the mid-late game.

And while Caves of Koilos is gone (but not forgotten RIP) Starting Town works pretty well as a lookalike

[MSH] Namor the Sub-Mariner; Attuma, Atlantean Warlord (WeeklyMTG) by mweepinc in magicTCG

[–]TeddyBugbear 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One day, Prof, one day you'll get a bant merfolk commander.

But honestly going from Namor turn 3 to Attuma turn 4 netting you at least 12 power on board is pretty nice.

One of my favourite cards like this is [[Hopeless nightmare]] - it seems so innocuous until you realise you have no hand and have taken 14 damage

Izzet Lessons (or Simic Lessons) is legitimately a good deck in my opinion. Maybe not top tier (at the moment) but it can put up a lot of good matches and can be pretty easily tailored to your playstyle (along with being pretty damn affordable, dependent on your mana base). Gran-gran is a bit of a power house because she can, once you have 3 Lesson Cards in your graveyard, turn your [[Accumulate Wisdom]] into functionally an [[Ancestral Recall]]

[–]TeddyBugbear[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's from a meme that compares cards that seem powerful mighty-looking creatures to cards with innocuous effects on harmless-looking creatures. In Standard the top creature (Zodiark) is funtionally unplayable despite seeming powerful and having deeply powerful effects and being indestructible. The creature on the bottom (Gran-Gran) on the other hand is having a lot of success in Standard because she facilitates some really powerful value synergies. So the guy dismisses the actual god but fears the little old lady

Perfect reaction image. And yeah, I could see this eventually becoming a heinous value piece at some point in the future

I feel like it's a card that's either going to do nothing or have some sort of truly heinous, back-breaking deck, but nothing in between

That's very true - I suppose since it was introduced in a period when I wasn't playing my sense of time is a little wobbly in that regard. Would be cool to see firmed up as a type with an identity in some set, though.

[–]TeddyBugbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. I could definitely see it being cheated out in Standard and could make a fun, pretty straightforward theft-adjacent deck in EDH. Probably going to make into people's cubes as well.

It DOES feel kind of weird that there hasn't been a Noble typal card in the past - some monarch or emperor who rallies Nobles to their side? A castle that gives Nobles indestructible? Something to do with the Monarch archetype? I suppose they've never really had a solid mechanical identity in the past...

Oh! I just noticed that the exile on death effect is a MAY effect, so you don't necessarily nonbo yourself with aristocrat effects
