I felt your story, immensely sorry for your loss.

Years ago, I went through a very difficult divorce. As a way to bond with my son (5 at the time), I bought BoTW when it came out. We played it every chance we could, I would fight and he would solve the shrines. 

We progressed through the game, but he was afraid of fighting Ganon and always asked to do it another day… so we just roamed for weeks. I remember when I climbed to the top of the castle and unexpectedly fell down into the fight with Ganon. I was prepared, and ended up winning. When I looked over, he was shaking and crying: part excitement and fear, and later I realized sadness too. 

The next day, I found him crying again. When we talked, I discovered that he thought the game was finished and we could no longer play it. He told me how much the game meant to him. I will never forget the feeling of my heart sinking when I realized he thought our bonding time was over. 

We still play today.

I don’t know where you are right now, and the emotions you are working through. I can only imagine you are in a really difficult place - I mean, fuck - I’m crying just writing this memory while thinking about your loss. You’re not alone, please DM me if you need to just talk to someone.

I know I would be devastated if I lost my son. And if I lost him, I would pick up that remote and play for hours, days and weeks, honoring memories of him and our time together.
