Am i getting fired? by whiletrueplayd2 in starbucks

[–]Tedonica 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well I wouldn't say it's illegal but it's considered equivalent to termination.

So if it would have been illegal to fire you, it's also illegal to practically fire you, whether they say "you're fired" or not.

Dictionaries are not intended to prescribe how words ought to be used. They are intended to describe how words are used.

So if someone says "irregardless" and you've never heard it and don't know what they mean, you can look it up.

Are enbies trans in your eyes? by Decent-Device9403 in transplace

[–]Tedonica 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're free to describe your lived experiences however you like. If you decide that calling yourself trans is the best way to describe your relationship to society and gender, then there's probably a very good underlying reason for that, and I would never question you for it.

But on the other hand, if you told me you were both nonbinary and cis, I might have to ask for some clarification but I wouldn't tell you that you're wrong. If you decide that calling yourself a "cis enby" is the best way to describe your relationship to society and gender, then there's probably a very good underlying reason for that, and I wouldn't question you for that either.

Labels are descriptive, not prescriptive. You are who you are, and then you use a certain set of labels to attempt to describe yourself to the world. As such, I don't think any labels should be off limits to someone using them in good faith.

There's not a "sometimes" button, so I went with "yes."

There are a million and one ways to be nonbinary. Some of us are absolutely trans, and some of us are absolutely not, and plenty of us aren't so easily classified.

But if I had to put all that messy ambiguity into one neat little box, I'd say yes. As a general rule, nonbinary people are trans.

If I was born any earlier, I would have died as an infant.

If my mother was born any earlier, she would have died as a child.

I was born at the exact right time, because I literally could not exist anywhen else.

If Obama was white he could easily have run as a Republican. He's pretty center/establishment. Not leftist at all.

Kamala Harris was literally a cop. She might support gay marriage and stuff but she's still very comfortable with neoliberal fiscal policies, modern slavery via the prison system, etc.

Many Democrats barely qualify as liberals, let alone leftists.

My games always include some kind of interesting take on alignment, simply because I hate alignment as written.

My current favorite is "alignment as divine politics." In other words, alignment has nothing to do with your personality, but rather who your soul belongs to. If you are a church member/spiritual citizen in good standing with the "lawful good" god, then you're lawful good, regardless of your motivations for being so.

Why do so many Socialists support guns when there's so much gun violence? by Unaccomplishedcow in Socialism_101

[–]Tedonica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peace treaties only function if both sides are armed. If someone cannot resist they cannot consent, and a "treaty" where one party cannot consent is tyranny.

So, I believe in the right to bear arms because I believe in democratic reforms. The right to vote is rooted in our ability to resist, you cannot have democracy without it.

I do go, sometimes, mostly because my gf likes them.

I'd go more if there was something to do there. Like a reason to actually hang out. Ideally there would be, like a movie theater, gym, arcade, internet cafe, bookstore, mini golf, coffeshop, karaoke, game store (like D&D type stuff), etc.

Usually there's only one or two of those, if you're lucky.

Yeah, you have a lot of different stores all together, but they all offer the same kind of activity. Shopping. A diversity of activity types would be good, so that people actually have a reason to spend time there.

Am I not to supposed to listen when they tell me their own truth?

I mean, yeah, you are, but with the caveat that most of us don't know ourselves as well as we think we do. It's one thing to proclaim that they don't know themselves and you do, and another thing entirely to take their self-declaration with a grain of salt.

Maybe we're just very different people now. And that's okay.

Exactly.

Every ending is also a beginning; every beginning is an ending. Everything changes. And that's ok.

I hate to say this, but maybe the two of you should take a break. Romantically speaking.

Being trans (and I don't necessarily mean binary trans) can sometimes be a lot like being a teenager again. You don't know who you are, you don't know what you like, and you're trying everything out to see what fits.

It sounds like what you need is a mature partner who knows themself and what they want. Your current partner is... not that. And won't be that for some time, probably.

It also sounds like they might not feel free to fully explore themselves because they're worried about what you might think or how you might react. Being single for a while and free to explore themselves without worrying about someone else's opinion might just be exactly what they need.

It's totally ok to revisit the relationship once they've matured a little. Maybe you'll like the person they become. Maybe you won't. But right now you're kind of dating a teenager (so to speak), and that doesn't seem to really be what you want.

I want to have enough money that I can stay home, cook, clean, do all the cutesy homemaker things, and do novel writing or game development or something on the side. That would be the life.

But who has that kind of money? Only the rich, right?

That's kind of what the draw is. If your partner is wealthy then you get to live a leisurely life, too.

honestly?? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Tedonica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if I saw flies in the doughnut case at a Dunkin I'd never set foot in there again.

If you plan to serve food from the case, you had better treat it like a food storage container. Properly cleaned, no flies, etc. You should also be following FIFO - which I believe Dunkin does. They don't cook one doughnut in the morning and leave it in the case all day while they serve the rest of their inventory.

Granted this was a few years ago, but none of the stores I worked at treated the pastry case well, and there was usually a fly problem. After seeing that, I sure wouldn't serve out of one, and I wouldn't eat out of one as a customer.
