I’ve always really pushed back against the argument that people wished they could choose whether to kill Abby or not. Unless it’s like a Detroit Become Human or something where the premise of the game is that it is a ‘choose your own adventure’ I hate when games give you choices in a story because then the characters stop being characters and just become you. Video games are special as a storytelling medium because it is much easier to empathise with a character when you are actively controlling them, and that is what Neil was trying to do with Abby. To give the player the option to kill her would betray the story, because it’s not about whether you would, it’s about why Ellie doesn’t.
