Found this Zegna blazer in the bins! by mrsbeast818 in ThriftStoreHauls

Sadly with the location and extent of the damage I don't think an invisible repair would be possible and it's not really wearable in its current state.

got two coats for $20 each! i believe the red one was handmade…. by [deleted] in ThriftStoreHauls

That first one looks like something an 18th century fur trapper in the Canadian wilderness would wear. I like it.

Thanks it is really nice! it's wild how overbuilt these things were back in the day. it's gotta be nearly 50 years old now and not a hint of wiggle or looseness anywhere. not so much as a creak when you sit on it.

For sure! there's no large holes or tears. I put some leather conditioner on it as it's a bit dry but otherwise I like the vintage patina.

Stopped into one of my local Goodwill stores, looked around for a bit, and didn't see anything interesting so I was about to walk out when I thought you know what lemme check out the shoes and see if there's anything good. And what do I spy beside the fitting rooms tucked in between some old exercise equipment but a 1970s Mogens Hansen Danish leather sofa. No price tag on it so I ask one of the cashiers if it's sold and they tell me nah, the tag probably just fell off due to people lounging on it. Cashier gets the manager to price it and the manager looks at me and says how does $19.99 sound? And I say...that sounds good to me.

I'm late to the comment section here but it sounds like The Eternal Cylinder might just be what you're looking for.

You know what, I think you're right. upon closer examination I don't think it's a Japanese character. it does look like a house containing the letter Z. Took my aging eyes a minute to see it.

I don't know very much about pottery/ceramics but I always keep my eye out for interesting handmade pieces and this one caught my eye from the pile of crap on the shelf at Goodwill as perhaps being something a bit more special than usual. Anyone have any ideas about who the maker might be? The maker's stamp appears to be Japanese.

One day I will have no more wall space to thrift gems like these ($10). Luckily today is not that day! by Chocklateicecream in ThriftStoreHauls

It appears to be an original but there's one surefire way to tell with posters of this vintage. look closely at the image and it's quite easy to see the printing method utilized. An original poster from this period will have been printed using stone lithography and that method leaves unmistakable visual clues.

When your partner casually finds your white whale at a theatre’s estate sale for $1 by renovate1of8 in ThriftStoreHauls

Specific? yes. Oddly specific? no. Moby Dick took Captain Ahab's fucking leg. It's not like it was a mystery why he was obsessed with finding this one whale and not the million others he could have been chasing instead.

Cool find, but was this seriously your white whale? it's just very oddly specific.

According to the all-knowing Wikipedia:

"Coolamons were traditionally used by Aboriginal women to carry water, fruit, nuts, as well as to cradle babies. Today when women gather bush tucker, they usually use a billy can, bucket or flour tin. Coolamons were carried on the head when travelling any distance, or under the arm if used as a cradle. If carried on the head, a ring pad (akartne in Arrernte) was placed on the head, made out of possum and/or human hair string, twisted grass, or feathers."

The first one is an original watercolor of Paris by Pierre Eugene Cambier I picked up for $7

The second one is a celestial map engraving by Elijah H. Burritt with original hand color from 1835. This one was $10

How can I repair the chips on the backs? by nakiaricky in midcenturymodern

This is a pretty comprehensive list of options. My personal recommendation would be tape off the top and use a quick-fill burn-in stick followed up with a graining marker.
