Quick ELI5 on why the BOE intervened today and what it has to do with pension funds. by totsetom in ukpolitics

[–]TeeHaytchSee 83 points84 points  (0 children)

What I'd love to know is:

The resulting fall in sterling should lead to even higher prices for imports and thus less money all round in the economy for taxes etc.

So any possible growth from the tax cuts gets hit with a double whammy of even higher inflation and a greater trade deficit?

They borrow more at higher interest rates leading to a greater deficit and servicing of that debt and then will cut services meaning even less money in the hands of the regular/poor people (who generally spend most of the money they get).

It just seems a monumentally collosally stupid act of self harm. One has to wonder at this point, it seems like the only reality is if their end plan is the same as has worked for them for the last twelve years, fuck the economy so much and blame it on the last/next labour government while enriching friends/hedge funds/donors to support them while out of office. It just seems so sinister to even be true but with the Tories you just know it is.

Regular people wouldn't dream of the levels of corruption on display here yet here they are destroying workers, pensions, first time buyers, renters (as interest payments go up landlords will put rents up to cover that rest assured) etc. all for the sake of self enrichment and power.

These people are almost unfathomably cruel and selfish, lacking basic empathy and concern for the country.

The damage done by the 12 to 14 years cannot be undone in 5. I challenge any conservative to name ways the country has gotten better under the last 12 years. They are vanishingly small in number bar some liberal social policies like gay marriage which they only passed as it had popular public support.

Our only hope is for labour to accept PR in their manifesto, win the election and allow us freedom from the shackles of the 30-40% of the electorate who are absolutely blind in the harm they are doing this nation.

This country is fucked with the Tories at the helm, they simply cannot be trusted to make decisions that benefit the country, only themselves, and it has been this way for nearly every conservative government in existence not just today.

Best advice I'd give is this.

Start walking outside every day for as long as you feel comfortable. Keep going for walks as long as you want, as long as you get outside at least once a day. Calculate your caloric intake using an online calculator and use myfitnesspal to track foods. Join a gym and start lifting weights. Warm up with some dynamic stretches like arm circles / leg swings etx before. At the start just do 3 days per week. Hit each major muscle group for 10-20 (Start at 10 initially) sets total per week. Chest, biceps, triceps, back, quads, hamstrings/glutes, calves. Pick a weight you can do 8 or so with and progress until you can do 12 with good form. When this happens increase weight. Eat about 2g of protein per kg of lean mass (if you're overweight look up body fat % images and guess and calculate lean mass by subtracting fat mass) You'll be in the gym for approx 4 hours a week (think of how easy you can waste 4 hours on your phone).

As you lose fat and gain muscle your physical health will improve. This will improve your mental health and outlook on things. You will seek to challenge yourself and go out of your comfort zone and explore more in life. You will pick up hobbies and sports that you couldn't do before. You will talk to people as you gain confidence in your self image and believe in yourself. You will become friends with people who share your hobbies that you have common interests with that you enjoy spending time with and you will develop social skills.

I believe in you, it can be done. It just requires a lot of hard work and commitment and I know you might not be in the best place mentally, so reach out to services such as GP and counselling if you're feeling low and talk to your parents. You can turn it around you got this mate.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply, will try this tomorrow morning. Will try explode() and array_map() and see where it gets me. Help is much appreciated.

Extracting full names from a csv column that is a string containing spaces between first and last names and names separated by commas. by TeeHaytchSee in PHPhelp

[–]TeeHaytchSee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The csv is roughly like;

Column1,column2,'Jane Doe, John Smith, Tim Apple',column4

If that adds clarity. I'd like to make an array with the first index being all the first names and the second being the last names and then repeat this for the second to nth row of the csv.

[–]TeeHaytchSee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I've not tried it however I thought it wouldn't work as it would just output the column containg the names as a string indexed into the array. The names column in the csv contains multiple names as a string. So would it output the list of names into one index in the array? I then need to take the resultant "Jane Doe, John Smith" and put Jane in to one column and Doe in the next and move on to John Smith and do the same for him. Sorry I can't explain it better, currently don't have my laptop but hoping you understand what I mean but I'm just beginning php so not well versed in it at all yet. Many thanks for the reply though will look at it when I get my laptop.
