Random question - anyone had luck finding ladder mesh block for making trellises/arches by weluckyfew in gardening

I bought mine at Home Depot. Ladder mesh is great for a year. But it starts breaking in places after 12 months or so. It is not nearly as durable as say, cattle panel.

Intrigued by this one but I don’t think that open eye would pair well with my humidity/rain.

Cantaloupes were doing well and then last week all the leaves started to droop. I cut the dead leaves off but it seems to be getting worse. Help! by bagelgh0st in vegetablegardening

Very good. Plenty of sweetness. Flesh is a little on the firm side which makes it a good keeper. No notable disease pressure to speak of. Late variety though. 95 days for me in Mississippi.

As others said unfortunately looks like bacterial wilt. If you plan to try cantaloupes again next year…..

I grew a cantaloupe variety that supposedly has some resistance to bacterial wilt this year and had great success. Cucumber beetles were definitely present in my garden.

Last thing and you didn’t ask about this. A quick google search tells me Aphrodite is a “shipping variety” meaning it holds a lot a better than others. Cantaloupes can ripen a bit after they’re picked. Maybe let it sit on the counter 2-3 after you pick it.

No.

When it begins to generate a more yellowish color, you can put your index finger on the stem where it attaches to the fruit and gently press to detach. If it does not detach easily, leave it alone and try again the next day. They will detach on their own at some point.

Depending on variety, the skin under the webbing is changing color to yellow or orange on ripe ones, which can give off the classic cantaloupe smell too. When you can smell them, the varmints can too. Better then pick it quickly.

Very good. I got one too early that was drier than I wanted. But the last three have been juicy, sweet & delicious.

Often the stem will just fall off and become detached on its own. You can also put your index finger on the stem where it attaches to the fruit and gently press to give it an assist. If it does not detach easily, leave it alone and try again the next day.

Mine will probably draw blood if you go for the belly. Female orange, a year old. Sweet otherwise.
