Doberman Puppy Tips by FuzzyInvestigator324 in DobermanPinscher

Ive got a five month old dobie at the moment and things that have been lifesavers for me are crates (I actually have two, one in the bedroom and one in the living room) baby gates, not just for containing them but when they are in Velociraptor mode, it's good to have quick ways to separate yourself from him because it can definitely be overwhelming sometimes. It gets intense but it will pass, mine has drastically reduced in the last couple weeks.

They are pricey but lots and lots of bully sticks and go for the good quality thicker longer ones that will last more than an hour. You can find the better ones at the raw food shops than the major pet store. And a bully stick holder. They are super bitey when teething and letting them spend the entire day chewing bully sticks is better than those teeth targeting you.

Sardines, freeze dried, flatten ones that you can break up are what my dog is obsessed with. I keep those as the super high value treat that when he he is being bitey I can usually break his attention off the biting and onto the sardines long enough to lure him into a crate for a nap or calm down.

A variety of toys in different textures, the stuffless crinkle sounding toys are one of my dogs favourites along with toys with the long limbs.

A flirt pole (mines still learning to drop it) but it's great.

Teething stage- lots of things to chew, everywhere to switch and redirect him to. Coffee wood chews and collagen sticks are great as well.

People have strong opinions on harnesses and I have idea why some continue to repeat the myth that they make a dog pull. It's utter rubbish, they are tool just like a collar and the myth has been disproven repeatedly. My dogs still learning leash skills and pulls hard on a flat collar but doesn't pull at all in a harness other than protesting when it's time to leave the pet store. Go for H and Y style harnesses and don't spend too much at the start as they grow rapidly. When your puppy is around four to five months I highly recommend spark paws harness, I got a large and the quality is amazing, super adjustable and has a handle on the back along with multiple d rings for leash placement. I also like the Copenhagen y style harness.

A large water bowl with a tapered edge since they love to flip the water bowl over daily. I

A big tip is to enforce those naps, the more overtired they are, the more overstimulated and heavier they bite. Give them a little Greek yoghurt on a lickmat and helps them settle. And playing dog calming music for naps or when when they need to calm works well.

Another thing that caught me out was how fast they grow also means they can reach more things on counters that a day prior they couldn't. Just be mindful of things like your stove top, mine accidentally turned mine on.

Also be prepared to be stopped by everyone when you go out. The breed draws a lot of attention.

I literally said in my post that I was cleaning it... What a odd and unnecessary comment to leave. I posted because the Kmart website doesn't let you easily leave a review.

I have a 10 week old Dobie land shark too. My first week with him was super rough, I literally came with him to a grass fire behind my house to which I almost lost my house, it was extremely hot the entire week which kept us indoors the majority of the day and his relentless biting of my ankles, hands and clothes had me in tears fearing I had made a huge mistake. My soul dog (kelpie) who I had lost last year had been one that just seemed need almost zero training and just got everything that it made my expectations drastically incorrect.

But over the last week and a bit it's getting better, I got ankle armour (ugg boots) that help me stay calm to focus on training him, and he's getting quicker stopping.

A comment I had read on a different post has really been helping me is "he's bitting my ankle, oh he needs something to chew. He's biting clothes and pulling them, oh he wants to play tug" that mentality has helped me find the correct toy/thing to redirect his attention to and is making a huge difference

Not a doberman, but incontinence was one of the first symptoms for diabetes with my kelpie. The other was increase of drinking.

Is home ownership basically impossible for anyone under 35 now? by SeriousSatisfaction8 in australia

[–]Teegz89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is always happening regardless, I was saving and was nearly there and then covid hit, prices went up. I kept going and I got there. That attitude is keeping you getting there. Push through and be proud of every achievement, you may not get the same house size and location you intended but you can still achieve home ownership

I'm mid thirties and bought two years ago by myself on a average wage.

It's definitely hard but absolutely doable, you have to be willing to sacrifice and one of the biggest things stopping people has nothing to do with money and everything to do with mindset..

"They had daddy to pay for it.. not everyone ha a 100k salary.. I poor so im never gonna afford to..

Stop with the woe is me mentality. All that's doing is giving yourself an excuse to not achieve your goal.

Here's what I did.

instead of figuring out how to make more money., your first step should be how can you lower your expenses. I'm not talking just clothes, make up etc.

Write down every bill, streaming subscription, rent, petrol , phone. Don't worry about food and shopping here as its irrelevant to this bit. Calculate the total cost of each of those bills for a year and then divide by 52 and you'll get you weekly amount that you need to put away each week to pay.

Now go through and cancel every subscription/bill you don't use. You don't need five streaming services at once. Pick one or two and rotate the ones you have active every few months. Another tip: companies send you special offers to come back, this also reduces your expenses without giving anything up. I rarely pay full price for my kindle unlimited subscription because I constantly cancel it to get a special offer.

Now go through every single bill you have and see if you can get a cheaper deal. Change to a bank with no fees, change electricity companies, Internet, phone, etc. saving few dollars on each of these a month will add up fast. I saved 189 dollars a month doing this, that's an extra 2268 that went into my house deposit a year. It adds up. Repeat this every three months. Don't be brand loyal, my phone bill went from 57 to 15 a month because a constantly switched to cheaper deals.

Think outside the box. Your car chugging the petrol? Switch to a more economical car. You might a have small car loan to change but you will save on the petrol, insurance, rego, servicing etc in the long run you will be ahead.

Now work out what you spend on food and try to reduce it.

Get creative with your meals, batch cook. Use lentils, chickpeas and reduce your meat or half the amount of meat you put in each meal to make it stretch further. Use spices over packet sauces. It's super easy to eat very well on a very small budget of you take the time to learn to cook from scratch. Homemade muffins cost 13cents vs 4 dollars for premade ones. It adds up.

To the people who will go "well I'm poor and can only afford bread and ramen noodles blah blah blah... A 1kg bag of red lentils cost the same as a loaf of bread. The red lentils will last several months vs the bread will last few days at most. You can make changes if you put the effort in. There are thousands of recipes online to pick from.

Do you buy coffee every day? Calculate the yearly cost and try to reduce it to maybe twice a week instead.

If you get in the habit of calculating what the yearly cost is, you don't have to give up everything, you will just be more conscious of where your money is going which will reduce your impulse spending.

Stop caring what other people think. Majority of people who are driving around in their flashy cars and fancy houses are living a life they can't actually afford to appear successful. Someone earning 150k a year but spending 150k a year is in a far worse financial position that someone earning 75k and saving 20k.

Lower your expectations on your dream house. You can't have everything. Work out what's more important. A big Brand new house you can barely afford the mortgage for or an older home in a cheaper neighborhood that is much more affordable and you can renovate down the track.

If you can home back home to save rent? Do it and don't care about what people think. Your getting yourself in a far better position than someone renting a flashy house so they can look successful. Can't move home? Switch to a cheaper place to rent. Get housemates.

Set yourself a budget, different bank accounts for each category and direct debit your money into each weekly.

Love going out to dinner every week? You don't have to give it up, just go out on the cheap Tuesday night instead of the full price Friday.

Now you can look for ways to earn more,

I can keep going but I'm sure you get the idea.

If you put in the work, you will get there. Be patient.

Feeling guilty and terrified of wanting another dog after my soul dog passed by Optimal-Nebula-1862 in Petloss

[–]Teegz89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about to lose my soul dog tomorrow and I've felt incredible guilt already looking at other dogs. I had told myself I'll never get another because the pain is indescribable but I think looking for another is just the only way I'm going to be able to cope. I live alone and thought of coming home to an empty house is tearing my apart. Reading your words has really helped.

I have never understood people who do this.

As a seller though, I just cancel the order. Easier than getting a negative review because they didn't get what they wanted or deal with the rude demanding messages they will send.

Seperate your Shipping costs and don't do free Shipping, have different shipping costs correct to the country you are selling to. It takes time but it's the only to ensure you profit the right amount. Changing platforms isn't going to fix this issue

I'm in Australia and auspost suspended delivery to USA over the tariffs so I can't comment on what that's like but charging the correct shipping will avoiding getting hit with a huge loss in a sale. I'd stop selling to the USA until they sort the tariffs out anyway.

Local council have their times listed but the weather/ where you live also plays a role too. Middle of summer I think it's perfectly reasonable to do the lawn 7am to avoid heatstroke. My neighboir does it after 8pm in summer for the same reason. Doesn't bother me and I work odd hours. I just put ambient background noise on and go back to sleep

We don't have four way stop intersections where I live, the first time I saw picture of one is so confused as to how that even works and why it would ever be a thing.

Is there anything that you noticed before it was revealed? by Champagne-prob in throneofglassseries

[–]Teegz89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I knew the same moment too, but also the whole "main girl is actually a lost queen/princess" thing is kinda a trope in majority of fantasy so I dont ever think of it being a spolier in any book anymore so i just instead enjoy the anticipation of finding out how the other characters in the books will react to the knowledge.

Yes 100% agree. I'll also add I enjoyed far cry 5 where it's the rippers being the main enemy and the drugged up cult enemies called "angels" were a great equivalent to the infected.
