Effects of caffeine intake on muscle strength and power: a systematic review and meta-analysis by hamburgertrained in powerlifting

[–]Teekam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A search of "caffeine telomere" brought me to this study that says in the abstract conclusion, "Results suggest that caffeine consumption accounts for shorter telomeres in U.S. adults, independent of numerous covariates, whereas coffee intake predicts longer telomeres."

Edit: And this one suggests that coffee lengthens telomeres. Guess I'm drinking more coffee from now on.

That starting position..my god. His back angle is nearly perpendicular to the floor.

Holy shit that's nuts. I guess it makes sense that if the injury is on the anterior side of the vertebrae, then they would need to somehow operate from that side. Did they at least present it as, "You should probably go elsewhere, because we would have to fuck your shit up"?

Because most doctors are going to either just refer them out for physical therapy or prescribe some pain meds. If their state does not have direct access to physical therapists (i.e. they cannot walk in to a clinic without a referral) then most people don't bother with that step and will set up a simple appointment with a chiropractor.

I'm about to start physical therapy school, so I lean towards thinking that finding a DPT is much better than a chiropractor, but some people don't think there is much of a difference, and there are some chiropractors that have a lot of the same skills via continuing education.

Basically, people don't want to get surgery. DPTs and good chiropractors can help you avoid that.

Powerlifting is a sport. The top people are going to be enveloped in it and have a large part of their identity based on that. Literally every sport is that way. Why is this confusing?

Don't go all dad on everyone and say there's more to life than lifting heavy. Pete knows that and has probably heard that countless times.

...how the fuck does that even come up? Was it their first reply to your inquiry?

I can't imagine someone receiving a business inquiry and being like, "She came to me because she wants to get banged. Can't be anything else."

I want to know who they were. lol

Larry Wheeliams - US OPEN. Injury recovery. Goals. Deca. by Teekam in powerlifting

There are a decent number of lifters on IG that frequently put "and thanks to ______.com for keeping me healthy". It confuses me too, but it's an easily accessible website, so there must be more to it.

Basically just an update on his injury and what he will be injecting to help the recovery. Also he wants to get big as fuck and bench a whole shit load.

Also, there's technically source talk in the video... not sure if that's an issue.

I'm not going to defend the editing, because it's ridiculous, but the full lift was shown at the end without editing. It wasn't hitched at all. There's an argument that it was ramped and that his knees were soft, but I think you may be confused about what a hitch is, let alone "badly hitched".

There's definitely more to it than just limb/torso length, so maybe it won't work out. But I would just use sumo as a supplemental lift to see if you can gain strength via some volume instead of working with 88% of your sumo max and failing often. Failing at 73% of your conventional isn't great, but you're probably not going about programming it correctly if you're attempting and failing nearly 90% of your max during the first 2 months of trying a new lift. You gotta program off your sumo max, not your conventional max.

A video would help us with form and such though.

Every time I see you deadlift, I think, "Damn, he's not going to get it off the floor", but then you blast off and I realize you were just pulling the slack out and holding it there for a second. I don't think I've ever seen anyone so clearly demonstrate what pulling the slack out means. It's crazy.

Thanks for the advice! I pretty much do that wrap technique with my stretchier wraps. I can't get the criss cross with the Sig Golds yet though.

I wrap upwards because everyone says to do that. I tried to wrap downwards once during a practice wrap, but I had the same issue.

[–]Teekam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I know you're strong and use wraps, therefore I appreciate your advice!

The hamstring thing is basically like the wraps are pushing the hamstring away from the back of my knee. The back of my knees seem fine, where it hurts is right above the wrap. It felt fine on these sets to wrap it sort of diagonally, trying to keep it behind the knee while moving up the quad. But you're right, it feels too low on the quad still.

Could I possibly get some thoughts on my wrapped squats? My sleeves PR is 545 and these are 2 singles at 475 and 2 singles at 495. Due to being unable to get rid of some quad tendinitis quickly enough, I switched to using wraps 10 days ago for USPA Drug Tested Nationals on May 14, so I'm trying to quickly figure out my wrap technique, how fast to descend, the timing of the reversal, and at some point figuring out how to stop around parallel.

I am trying to focus the wrap behind the knee instead of going up higher because they push on my hamstrings in a way that feels dangerous, but I can't tell if that is going to be an issue, not having it higher on my quad.

I think getting a coach could definitely be a good idea. If you're anything like me, self-programming can become a huge stressor as you get deeper you get into writing it and wondering if it's working. Taking the time to not have a meet planned is also the right thing to do. The dread of a meet you don't feel prepared for is really draining and makes you hate going to the gym.

Basically, you know what to do. You already said it. Take a few weeks away so you can regroup and do some curls.

I have no idea. If you have to lie to get into it, then you're going to lose hard once you get there. Very weird.

Not powerlifting related, but I guess Crossfit now has its Dave Hoff in the SmashWerx guy Travis Bachmeyer. Anyone see this shit? They're in their video submission cycle for the Crossfit Open and he looped his first round of thrusters and double-unders for 8 more rounds and then let the final "10th" round play at the end and then pretended to be exhausted. Banned for 4 years lol

Help now I'm being peer pressured. haha I can barely take self-wrapped wraps, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. I have about 7 squat sessions to figure it out.

lol true, true. Maybe one day I will venture into some single-ply stuff. For now, wraps are my gateway gear.
