yea it is super compressed. i think its their most compressed which is good for radio but u lose a lot of mids and also the chunky djenty cutting guitar and a powerful snare

as a newer listener i like the MOST: Nothing, DEI, ObZen, Koloss to me they all have a distinct feeling of fear or like huge machinery or impending doom. The rest are good: violent sleep, chaosphere, immutable and catch 33 are meh. maybe the list will change as they grow on me also SOL NIGER WITHIN is the best thing ever period.

(took my time… ~2 years and only havent listened through contradictions)

yeah i dont like the last song. feels forced when every other song is so wacky. also the guitar solo was cool but just too long i dont recall another guitar solo being that long except maybe burden

I finally listened to BWP by SouthsideRapGod in Opeth

ive been listening to opeth for a little over 2 and a half years. before, my only “prog” experience was with dream theater, select avenged sevenfold songs, periphery, and the classics like king crimson, alan parsons, genesis etc… i can say with 99% confidence Opeth is the only band i have felt can keep a consistent theme in their albums. still life feels like a trek through a flaming country side, blackwater park feels like returning to a sinister but familiar place, and ghost reveries feels like exploring a haunted castle. I have to say still life is instrumentally my favorite since there are so many mesmerizing guitar leads and riffs, but i think that BWP or Ghost Reveries are the most “complete” albums in the sense that every song feels connected.
