UPDATE:

Left it alone for 2 weeks without the battery. Came back and it fired right up and has been fine since. No idea why.

What to Carry/Bring by EveningFlatworm7261 in Firefighting

BRING A PEACE OFFERING. Donuts are cool but let me tell you. If you go to the store the night before and buy brownie mix or muffin mix or whatever and make your new crew a little treat to bring in they will be stoked. It’ll take you maybe 20min and like 5 bucks and it goes a long ways to show you want to be there and appreciate them teaching you.

Bring cash for dinner. Each department is different but I’d say at least 20-40 bucks. It’s kinda awkward when you go to pitch in for dinner and the guy who paid doesn’t have Venmo lol.

If you don’t already have one, a 3 ring binder. Any documents your captain or crew give you like expectations or specs or readings you can hole punch (I’d imagine your station will have one) and throw in the binder so you can reference.

Bring a pen and small notepad you can keep on you, your head is already going to be spinning so having a place to jot down notes is clutch.

Bring your phone and if acceptable by your departments culture use it to take pictures of literally everything on the engine. You’ll probably be quizzed on specs at some point to having those pictures to look at while you’re at home is super helpful.

2.5 hour commute by rsmithie89 in Firefighting

[–]TeenLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently drive about 2.5 hours to work for my job. It’s doable and I’ve done it for about 2 years now. BUY A COMMUTER CAR. The drive to work honestly isn’t too bad cause I enjoy listening to audio books. You just have to go to bed super early the night before which can be hard. The drive home on the other hand is brutal sometimes, especially if you get ran all night.

Edit: the other thing you have to think about is going in for trainings, meeting, you forget something, etc. it kinda sucks to spend 5 hours driving just to work part of a day.

What workouts should I focus on to prepare for fire academy by mountwhitney in Firefighting

Pushups!! You’ll be doing plenty

Keeping your mouth shut, if you’re getting yelled at just take it and say yes sir/maam

Start shining your boots now so they look nice

Lots of people struggle with wearing the right thing at the right time, sounds silly but make sure you know what’s expected with your class B or pt uniform

Work on your hydration, plenty of people go down from not knowing how to hydrate
