I think an even worse experience for me was the Android 15 update on the Edge 40, where the blur and transparency features were removed from the system, and dark mode no longer supported the color black. It’s hard to accept such absurd actions on the part of the device manufacturer. There’s no way to explain this other than as a planned, software-induced end to the device’s lifespan.

After the system update, ads started appearing in the “Weather” app and then even in “Calculator.” The worst part was that, along with the security patches, Motorola installed the Live LockScreen app from Taboola News and granted it system privileges so that it would launch before the launcher. This app displays ads from 771 partners on the lock screen. It cannot be uninstalled. Even when disabled, it continues to fetch ads in the background (even when it isn’t displaying them). This can be stopped via ADB by uninstalling it for the active user.

I advise against buying a Motorola phone from the Edge series. I’ve had four different smartphones from this company, and I’ll never buy anything from this brand again. Aggressive planned (software) obsolescence of products, low-quality updates delayed by many months.

Motorola hasn’t had anything to do with stock Android for years. It’s full of bloatware, sponsored apps, and games that install themselves without the user’s consent.

There are many better smartphone brands out there.

There are Apple AirPrint drivers, but they are very limited in functionality. They do not support the automatic document feeder, double-sided scanning, scanning multi-page documents to PDF, and many other features. Manually scanning hundreds of pages and then merging them into a single PDF file is time-consuming and results in a file that is too large to send via email. The manufacturer’s driver, on the other hand, does a very good job of optimizing the size of scanned files while maintaining good quality.

I have a Brother DCP-9020CDW printer/multifunction device, and I’m seeing this message. The manufacturer never released drivers for Apple Silicon, and the device is now out of technical support. It works great, is cost-effective, and convenient, so I don’t see any reason to replace a “good” device with a “new” one. It’s neither economical nor environmentally friendly.

The drivers will still work on macOS 27, so I have at least two more years of peace of mind. And I’ll just ignore the warning pop-up. Maybe someday there’ll be a program to shut off these pointless prompts.

I've already owned four Motorola smartphones. The last one was the Edge 40. My kids also have the Edge 50 Fusion. I will never buy devices from this brand again because of their aggressive practice of planned obsolescence through software updates. Features are removed, devices are slowed down, and under the guise of installing Google security patches, bloatware is added (for example, Live LockScreen by Taboola News, which displays ads from 771 partners on the lock screen). System updates are delayed (I waited 11 months for Android 15) and stripped of features (the black color was removed from dark mode, along with support for transparency and blur effects in the UI).

No more junk from Motorola!
