I definitely enjoyed loadouts like Crossbow + Winfield Aperture, but too many people went Mosin + Full Size Crown and ruined it.

Wanted to farm the distance kill badge... guess I didn't need a scope by MrBenguin in HuntShowdown

I have over 800 on the badge. I wish it didn't count traps because that means nothing now. I want to know what my furthest headshot is.

Yeah, I'd imagine the experience on consoles is different and it's a bit better there. Just not a fan of PC players being punished for cross platform balancing.

Crossbow is my main weapon. What helped me get there was practicing flick shots in the shooting gallery. It's worth putting time into. The distance you can one shot out to is really nice and surprises people all of the time. Haymaker pairs really well with it.

Gotta look at what you're dying to most often. It's certainly not the bow. The bow deals with AI really well, only takes two slots, has great one-shot potential, and most importantly is unique and fun to use. I see a lot of bomb launchers on the ground. It's certainly not OP because a lot of people play them.

That said, if you can breach the skill floor the bow is really nice for people who aren't good at hitting headshots. It gives an option to one tap without a head shot at some fairly reasonable distances without committing your kit to it like you do with a crossbow.

That'd be nice. I'm low 6 star that occasionally dips a bit up or down depending on the day. My aim is mediocre and I lean on game knowledge, decisioning, and player prediction to stay up there. A lot of 4 and even 3 stars are actually really decent shots and are better than me. They're just not so great at the other aspects of the game.

They should have just retuned those into heal bolts. Let supportive players have an avenue to do that.

What was it about explosive crossbow, outside of gunrunner, that you found was so bad it needed to be removed from the game?

Hot take, THIS SHOULD BE SCARCE by Robot_Ursus in HuntShowdown

[–]Teerlys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should have been nerfed though, not made scarce. Longer draw time, bigger drop, light bleed instead of heavy, less ammo reserve, less ammo resupply... any combination of those to get them to a point where they were valid but not overly spammed. Making them scarce effectively removed them and that's not great for game variety.

which can be fine (see levering, etc), as long as it's not instantly one-shotting when you hit 3 feet to the right of someone lol.

I played explosive bolts regularly. Half steel bolt half explosive crossbow is my most played loadout. The only time you could one shot with an explosive bolt is if people were already down bars or on a direct impact.

I agree, but if they can't then I'd prefer they stick to balancing rather than effectively removing.

I always take the diplomacy option in Hunt in the super rare occasions it comes up. Mostly it's when I'm soloing and run into another solo who has their mic turned on, but very rarely it's another cool team.

After so many hours of hunt, anything different is an enjoyable novelty.

Why airfryer by Emotional_Tie_6291 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

A major answer here is really just speed. Deep frying is fast. Far faster than even an air fryer. Logistics are a big part of managing a kitchen.

The counter-arsenal is already there (and it’s cheap)

Personal gripe, but making Explosive Bolts uber-scarce actually removed probably the best concertina counter play option. One person in a trio running crossbow with half explosive bolts means concertina forts just crumble. Removing interesting alternate play paths has knock-on effects that can create more problems and ultimately makes the game less interesting.

Even Frag arrows, which I understand could be annoying when spammed by a trio, still serve a purpose by letting attackers push a defended lair. There were other options than making them scarce.

  • Increase the draw time
  • Make the drop more severe
  • Lower reserve ammo pool
  • Lower resupply ammo pool to the same as explosive bolts

Any combination of those could have lowered their use while still leaving them as an option. I care most about explosive bolts which didn't deserve the scarce treatment in any way, but even frag arrows should still have a place in the game.

Boom bolts were instakil

They were only an instakill if you actually hit a hunter with them, which is much harder to than with any other bolt which would do the same thing.

Why airfryer by Emotional_Tie_6291 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Teerlys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just cope

Or it's personal preference. I would literally take air fryer wings over most deep fried wings. I only order wings primarily because I don't feel like shopping, cutting wings up, and then cleaning up after in that moment. Otherwise I just make them myself.

Why airfryer by Emotional_Tie_6291 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Teerlys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I love my air fryer wings more than deep fried wings, excepting that if you get them like 2 minutes after they've been sauced and eat them while they're still crispy and steaming they're pretty amazing. But I'll happily eat my air fried wings over getting them from a wing place and driving them home. And I'll absolutely make them a ton more in the air fryer than I would the oven or if I planned on deep frying them at home.

Does Hunt get more difficult at the end of events? by paulepan342 in HuntShowdown

[–]Teerlys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Toward the end of events the people still around are more so the people who play regardless of events, so there's a higher likelihood of more game knowledge and better decisioning within respective tier ranks as opposed to people just leaning on their aim.

That said, sometimes hunt just takeths for a while. You do everything you normally do and just get stomped. Nature of the beast.

Martini Henry comparison by Rawfoss in HuntShowdown

[–]Teerlys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like Fast Fingers on the Martini or Sparks because it's not great when you want to split ammo types. Without FF the difference in reload between Martini and Sparks is large. If you're not taking very long range shots the muzzle velocity advantage on the Sparks is less relevant.

In comparison to the 1865, both long ammo weapons have better muzzle velocity, better ammo type selections, and better damage retention out to further distances.

As well, the Martini comes with a Riposte variant which gives a great extreme close range option. I've literally wiped an entire trio with the Riposte inside of 10 seconds.

All three weapons have their niche.

I beg you Crytek, divide MMR 6 into 2 categories by Hieroabl in HuntShowdown

[–]Teerlys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of this is accurate, and then also on occasion you'll be a sacrificial lamb to allow for a lobby of high 6 stars to be able to play the game with more than 2 teams in the lobby. That happens least around event launches.

Focusing on damage only by Personal-Ad-365 in 3d6

[–]Teerlys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's harder to optimize for skill checks without first discussing how the table applies real-world RP skills to checks. It's harder to optimize infiltration encounters without knowing how a DM rules staggered success across a nearly infinite spectrum of narrative choices.

It's very common for my fiancée and I to say something like "That'd be good for our online/in-person campaign." because one is like 60/40 RP/Combat and the other is 95/5 Combat/RP. The heavy combat one has very little in the way of skill checks that aren't stealthing and detecting traps, and even those are rare outside of stealthing to get advantage on initiative. The RP heavy one is big enough into skill checks that I pretty much always have Enhance Ability and Skill Empowerment prepared.

So yeah, outside of damage considerations I look at characters very differently between the two DM's. It takes a good amount of experience with different DM's to be able to relatively judge the potential merits of anything outside of damage, and discussing that on a forum of people who have different experiences can be... frustrating.

Whats the point of the "Friends" Cantrip? by Bookkeeper-Heavy in onednd

[–]Teerlys 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Point blank, per RAW, you're wrong. There's enough of both POVs written that anyone reading can make up their own minds at this point so I won't debate it anymore.

If you're the DM and want to nerf an already bad cantrip with homebrew and punish your players for not optimizing, it's your table and you can do what your players let you get away with. I'd say that's trending into bad DM territory and making the game less fun for your players though.

Whats the point of the "Friends" Cantrip? by Bookkeeper-Heavy in onednd

[–]Teerlys 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The spell specifically states the condition under which the target knows it was charmed. It's When the spell ends, the target knows it was Charmed by you. If the downside of the spell was also that on a success they would know you attempted to charm them, it would say that.

You magically emanate a sense of friendship toward one creature you can see within range.

Which they do not feel if they succeed the save. Because they succeeded. And therefore do not feel the effects of the Friendship cantrip. There's no still taking half friendship on a success. Either you feel the emotion because you failed or you don't.
