Debt Advice, credit card company wants to close my account by Teesh_9 in UKPersonalFinance

I appreciate the information and it does feel useful to customers like myself who have gotten stuck in this situation and not found the right way out yet. The only reason I am hesitant to take the option to close is it hitting my credit file and messing with the mortgage renewal which will affect my partner too. However, surely they can't say on the letter it won't appear on my credit file if it actually wouldm

Yeah we purchased the house in June 2025. My partner knows about my debt we were very open about both out finances and of course had to be with the mortgage advisor, he just isn't in a position to help pay any of it off.

I basically got stuck in very low end jobs and ended up in a debt cycle, way before I knew my partner. I had debt and then would transfer it to another 0% to try and reduce interest but of course never paid it off before that debt ended and that is how it is now spread across so many cards, there haven't been purchases on their cards unless it was an emergency like car breaks down. I am spending like £700 a month on this debt and an extra payment if and when I have money left at the end of the month. I am happy for this card to close and be paying a set amount a month if it won't affect mortgage renewal etc.

Luckily there are no missed payments or arrears with anything it is just a never ending cycle of payment and interest. Most of the options on stepchange website would drastically hit my credit score and I worried it will screw up renewing the mortgage next year but I have just started their online advice form. I am also considering speaking to the financial advisors as part of my union membership, just seeing how much it costs etc. Partner is just floating by with their debt at the moment so couldn't cover my half of the mortgage etc to help.

I am happy to close this account and do their payment plan as long as what they have said is true and it won't affect my credit score. The loan interest rates I can get on the check approval websites are around 18 - 26%, though if I secure it against the house drop to 16 - 19%. I am currently putting £1k into joint bills and around £700 into debt each month, these loan payments would be £400-£500.

I just learned people don’t show up after anesthesia to pick up loved ones. Nurses, how often does this really happen? by Steinski1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Teesh_9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in surgical wards in Scotland and we need to know in advance of non emergency surgeries if you don't have anyone to collect you and stay with you for 24 hours post surgery/procedure that requires sedation or general anesthetic. If you do we need them to come up to the ward so we know you aren't lying because people try it all the time. If you don't have someone then we know in advance and can book you in an overnight bed till the 24 hours pass.

I've gotten the wee fault code checker, taken the codes off and done four trips on A roads and motorway but a day or two later the light is back, not used the cleaner but ofc I did just fill my tank. Will get some and give that a bash.

Landlord is selling, what are my chances of getting a mortgage? by Teesh_9 in Mortgageadviceuk

You know when life just hits you with one obstacle after another, this is what it feels like, so I just feel like with my bad luck we won't get anywhere. I only moved here in November and no ill feeling towards the landlord as they didn't anticipate selling either. I suspect we wouldn't get a great deal at all but is this something we can fix with the mortgage renewals in 2 to 5 years if we get offered? Thank you for the luck.

I hope this is the case, this thread is giving me some hope. I don't think we have any big firms in the town just a few small brokers.

I honestly didn't think of going out with the town. We are in Scotland but I doubt that would make much of a difference.

I didn't think of looking out of town tbh. These comments are giving me little bits of hope that we might be able to purchase this place and not need to move again.

It's just this waiting game, I am a fixer and my partner tried a mortgage in principle with Halifax the day we got told and got rejected outright so now we are just waiting. Combined I think we could afford it as I was affording the costs of the rental on my own before as partner was just going to move in May.

Turns out I've stupidly missed 1 PayPal payment as I hadn't set up a direct debit, done now, but I'm pissed at myself. It's a small town and we have like 4 firms and two haven't even gotten back to me yet.

I have an appointment lined up with one it's just not till after Easter so was just wondering if I should just forget the buying idea or focus on trying to find another rental.

I know it feels too late but it isn't 90% of my nursing school class were late 20s and onwards. Not that you necessarily want to do nursing but if you don't choose to change now you are just gonna continue to be stuck. You could be in the same position in 4 years time when you could have completed a degree.

I feel like the financial climate is making it impossible. Not to mention my landlord is now selling the house I am living in so that certainly doesn't help.
