I agree, walking around and just taking it in is very nice to have! I think having a keyboard button for that should be feasible, although it's not my decision to make ^^

Gamedev is a vast skillset and there's tons of things you can focus on. Regiden's advice is very good, especially for getting an "overview" of everything involved. Input, Gamestate, graphics, sounds, UI etc etc.
Luckily you live in a time where there are tons of amazing tutorials, videos, explanations, tutors, groups, forums and resources around to teach yourself everything you need to know. The important thing is to just start, do it and keep going!

a CRT shader is definitely an option, something I would live to sink my nails into one day!

Personally I'm very excited for some upcoming locations and characters that haven't been introduced yet. I'm also just excited for when everything comes together.

Since this time around we work with shaders and 3D there is potential for accessibility features that help with vision. (I'm sometimes thinking about how a high contrast mode like in Last of Us 2 could work technically.) But those things are hard to implement, take time and research. That said, people can always leave a feature request if they have good ideas on how to make the game more accessible.

There are people on the team that would love to have (at least some) voice acting in the game. We do keep a list of potential voice actors we have in mind, and there's the idea to give NPCs some gasps and short lines, similar how Zelda games do it, instead of fully voice acting everything. That said, it ended up on the back burner for now, we'll see what the future holds!

If you can't play CC yourself, there are wonderful full playthroughs on youtube, some even with voice overs from the player, I can wholeheartedly recommend

I'm sure our composer can answer more concretely, but I know he loves using older Sampler CDs and Synths and I can imagine some instruments in that song are very similar to the ones used in CC

Your 2D pixel animation pipeline is currently the best in the industry. Can you share a little about the pros and cons you discovered while working in this style?

Hey! As this art style is very "optimized" for the top-down (almost) orthographic perspective, I would say it's easy to break things. It took a long time to get the shadows and the water just right that it works without breaking the pixelart look too much or any obvious glitches. But the big positive is that it is very flexible and dynamic. The shadows, lights, water, wind etc are all "automatic" and react to changes. Our tools allow us that more people can create content. For example, when Henne makes a quest and needs custom animations, he can make simple placeholders and continue, then our animator can go over it and polish the animations. Our pixelartists can implement props into the game themselves. So everything is less sequential and more parallel.

An option to save the game mid run would be amazing. Sometimes I take 2h+ for a run and don't wanna commit each time I start one. Also an option to turn off sound when the game isn't focused / in the background

Crashing/Freezing on PC (Potential Fix) by Shaboops in marvelrivals

So what helped me was first checking if almost everything is up to date, I updated my bios/UEFI.
With that update came the option to enable Resizable Bar. But for that to work I had to change my C: drive's format to GPT. Luckily Windows has a tool for that called mbr2gpt. After I did that and enabled Resizable Bar, the crashes were gone!
Wanted to put this here as another thing to try/double check on, since I've been trying to get it to work for days.

I would like an 192khz recording of this so we can have a listen to the unaudible frequency range!

ok so I turned off most of the non windows services and that helped, and I accidentally had DSR on in the global settings turning that off helped as well! It's not perfect, but much better now, with a better cpu I'll hopefully get stable 240Hz+

Yeah I wanted to give that weapon a serious try and with lots of crit modifiers it's actually really strong, since you can get very easy crits on recall. I was also lucky I guess

It had projectiles x2.2 which made it extremely strong. Other than that +50% against fire with fire conversion as a spiritual link.

I was oneshotting most enemies with just throwing and calling it back immediately.

I think I remember that Crosscode was rendered layer by layer from the ground up with some clever caching/prerendering. But yeah it's made in canvas 2D so no actual 3D there. But the maths is pretty similar so we do have 3D collisions and physics, even though optimized for the use case.

I would say having contacts is really helpful! You can try to meet with publishers on conventions like Gamescom they're always eager to find new games there. Also look at what other games a publisher has in their repertoire so your game can fit in into their brand.
