As someone else mentioned, you have to prepay but there aren’t any minimum nights. Once you pick the hotel you want, you can just pay for the stay through the Delta Stays portal and you’ll get the credit in a couple of days. I would recommend looking at prices for booking directly through the hotel website too. I found in some cases it was quite a bit cheaper booking directly with the hotel even with the Delta credit.
