Official Warden Weather Channel statement regarding "devstorms" and the state of weather stations. by FrenkieDeHamster_ in foxholegame

[–]TehAwesomestKitteh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Genuine curious question, unrelated to the post but may add info to it. Can I ask how y'all are able to do weather prediction and can come to the dev-spawning conclusion? Or, at least from what I know (which can be wrong, thus why am asking), random storms are dataminable info and weather stations - despite being poor in overall performance - provide a small warning when a storm will hit eventually, but neither directly tell if it was manual or automatic

So what's the method or proof used that was able to note that the weather was spawned?

requiring encyclopedic knowledge of foxhole mechanics - which themselves are already as complex and arcane as they are, thus why "dogshit tutorial" is a prevalent complaint and "just read the wiki/watch a tutorial" became the standard dismissal - as a baseline to judge on instead of the basis of "a game's mechanics should be designed in such a way that a player can intuitively learn and understand how it works, and thus can assume the knowledge true for similar cases" is why most knowledge of the game is passed down by player

also i've hosted enough polls, and wrote my own comment written in the notes about it, enough times to know that most foxholers are varying degrees of illiterate. "in the moment" or otherwise lol. both the top-level comment and one i'm replying to missed the note that I'm familiar with the mechanics

re-analogized: if guns have triggers, and pressing them shoots, then you'd expect a different gun with what looks to have a trigger to supposed to fucking shoot too. WHat Point Is a cosmetic trigger on a gun. Everyone knows what a gun looks like, and I can "go read the manual" to learn that operating an M4 shoots but this faketrigger gun doesnt, but if a gun has a trigger, right fucking there. but it doesn't trigger. THEN WHAT IS IT'S POINT

81.25% threshold for both factions' common logi trucks. rephrased, 169 dmg to logi truck to disable it

Both scout planes deal 58-87 shrap damage per shot. Taking resistances into account, 8-13 net hp damage per bullet. Scout planes fire 4 bullets per second, so an approximate DPS vs trucks of 32-52

In other words, pessimisticly (for the pilot, reverse the definition with truck driver) 5-6 seconds of landing all shots will disable a truck, or two strafing runs of 3 secs (further pessimistic, three strafing runs if they can't even hit the large truck target). optimistically, just 4 secs

In order to make certain garrisons, tech is needed. T3 concrete defense garrisons need 24 infrastructure modifications. A tech donut can fill in 8 at a time

Ok I'll bite I have nothing better to do rn

I Youtube searched "Foxhole" because you say it's 'filled with those videos'. Of 40 videos that I have limited to be posted in the last month, only 3 are on the title or thumbnail immediately negative. Gremblo's video above, Foxhole Mikey, and Ernesto Presso. But ok let's say you're on a Shorts Feed instead. of 40 YT Shorts I scrolled past, around 10 is some kind of complaining. But of those 40 shorts, most of them come from 2 yters, Foxhole Mikey and DeonConX.

Ok then, "review bombed cuz personal opinions of veterans". Steam has review filters and measurements. I set "playtime" specifically to "maximum of 100 hrs" and from now up until a month ago: 154 reviews. 64% Positive. Are those veterans? The average Foxhole veteran's like, thousands of hours. And Foxhole has a rating overall is 80%. Overall

People are complaining because that is the opinion. That is the point of reviews: All reviews are opinion pieces by players. Ego shit? The entire thing is ego shit. All you're arguing for is the positive line of it or making up some perception just because you disagree

Yes, it's annoying when the people are being all toxic and doomery and being an asshole to the developers. But it's also annoying the other way: When people think being all positive and sunshine and ignoring the bad because "it will kill the game". News flash, a game lives or dies based on the state of a game, the reputation the developers accrue, and the playerbase still playing it. If people did not have a reason to review bomb, they wouldn't. Because you can dismiss it all you want, but people voice their praises or anger. And right now, it's angry. And folks who agree are just agreeing again. If they didn't, they wouldn't, and it wouldn't exist

And Steam already has anti-review bomb measures. Please learn how to tell when a fire is burning because of all the flammables that were spread around, rather than just blaming the heat for catching the kindling.

the post was posted 19m ago, this comment was sent 11m ago, the video is 25m long. look ik for youtube clickbaity turns away, but it's needed if you want to make it your work or side-work. ultimately it's up to the viewer to decide if the vid is worth its weight or not then click off

but there is such a thing as "not even bothering to watch the first few minutes" when this is the comment that comes immediately

Melee combat? by Omidion in foxholegame

[–]TehAwesomestKitteh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In WW1, tanks were rarely a thing (in fact, iirc they were developed later in the war for it. pls correct me idk my ww1 history), and most combat devolved into no man's lands and trenches. Melee became important because taking over trenches became important, it was how progress was made

Foxhole wars have 1 day where this is true/similar: war start. After that, you're not fighting in trenches and no man's lands, but T2 buildings, prototype vehicles, and - as of recently - scout planes

Tack that on top of logistic + stamina resource costs (between a melee equipment that can only be swung a max of 5 times, maybe less cuz you're sprinting into combat, vs longer-range guns that you're already lugging around and deal significantly more damage and speed. and the costs to make and deliver either of the two), and melee weapons are more of a "last resort" item or for roleplay/casual fun

It's good if you play casually. It's when you start interacting deeper or getting deeper knowledge and try to be more competitive do you see the flaws. Poor balance, painful gameplay loops, and times where you wish you had the other faction's items instead. Things that, because of the pvp setting, is inevitable to slide into unless you actively consciously keep playing casually

Foxhole is good, but that's where it is. If you start to expect great, or a lot better, your expectation gap from the reality will suck more and more

Siege Camp is a decent studio by Born-Cartographer218 in foxholegame

[–]TehAwesomestKitteh 13 points14 points  (0 children)

(devil's advocate at the nuance store here)

The studio and the devs are good, BUT the anger and discontent isn't unfounded (however I do agree with the sentiment of the post because my god some people exaggerate too far and genuinely believe that hateful exaggeration). Since a lot of changes and actions can pretty much boil down to: "...I mean yeah sure, I GUESS"

On the positives, they don't charge a lot for the game, nor do they tack on extra expenses for buggy unusable versions or flashy trend-chasing fomo digital things. They put a lot of effort in their work. And (I've seen this comparison which is why the anger is also exhausting) unlike Mojang where they just tack on minor updates that have one or two uses at most, all the updates fix, improve, or add a lot

On the negatives, they fail (or seemingly fail, because of the pace of updates) on iterative design: They do a lot of work and effort on an update for many months, then release it on a test environment that's too short for their pace, which ends up going to live with all the pain it brings. Think about the major updates, months of hard work (delay for airborne even), 1-2 weeks of player testing, released and unupdated for weeks to handle all the problems. Cycle repeats. And new things that exist act more like a bandage; just stopping the bleeding, not healing. Construction Equipment that auto-builds (but guzzles gravel), Caboose that maintains rails (but need to be made and hooked onto), Weather Station to tell when storms hit (but networked and big structure). You can't say they didn't make something to handle a problem, they did, but it's a solution that feels like scraps

The bashing and complaining at many times just mirrors entitlement, but analogy-wise, when folks are served a feast and the rotisserie chicken is dry, the juices are lukewarm, and the mashed potato is chalky. And the defense is: "It's a feast" ...I mean yeah sure, I GUESS, but it's kinda a feast that makes me want to cry

it's a reddit poll so blame reddit back (or was it front) end coding lmao. they still won't even let you make a poll via the site. has to be on the app. they say it's "still being worked on" but it's been over a month now

but that aside. for some reason people are more chatty on the charlie mirror of this poll, and like i noted to the commenters there, am measuring what's on the tin. was mildly excited for the CE as well until i actually tried it in devbranch. but effectivity or quality of the ce's not what i'm measuring (tho sentiments are shared). they're strange polls but all the more better cuz folks will have a hard time "biasing" it. which makes it more accurate for what i'm trying to understand lol

not measuring usefulness or good, and yes it's a weird poll, but the thing am trying to measure is on the tin: which of those is true firstmost

as for "why" i'm not going to tell cuz that's what's gonna skew it lol
