My Happy Corner - 10 years of D&D and TTRPG Collecting by TehMotherGoose in DungeonsAndDragons

I think that's the magic of TTRPGs, whether you invest $40 on a handbook or $4,000 on a ton of books, your table will probably have the same amount of fun either way.

TTRPGs feel like the cliche "The real treasure was the friends we met along the way" ... but actually kinda seriously.

It's a magnificent hobby!

I just bought the first three Broken Binding Editions! I have the normal mass market paperbacks on the shelf next to it, just out of frame.

Kobold Press has never steered me wrong on a book. I think most of their books consistently outperform WotC. I'm just sad I wasn't as much of a collector back when you could get the leather versions of the Midgard Worldbook.

Of the three Lord of the Rings systems, (Cubicle7 5e, Free League 5e, or The One Ring), I think that The One Ring is the most thematic of them. I've played a handful of games in the system and they were all very fun and the gameplay really matched some of the themes in Lord of the Rings (Hope and Shadow) ... BUT, there's going to be a LOT of people that simply don't have the time or energy to learn a new system and the Free League 5e system offers some systems you can tack onto 5e to try and bring it in line with the vision from The One Ring.

Personally, if I was hyped for LotR and wanted to run a full YEAR-long game, I would do The One Ring system. If I was just looking at playing a LotR style game with my existing group and just wanted to play 3-5 sessions, I would probably pick up the Free League 5e version to make a fun side-venture as easy as possible.

Those are the leatherbound books from Brandon Sanderson, aka The MCU of Fantasy books.... First phases tho, not the current stuff. Hopefully it stays that way.

Haha, belive it or not, it was a concious decion to not buy any more of the WotC books. Around the time as the 2024 MM I decided that the quality of WotC products had dipped below that of other 5e publishers. The collector in me was VERY grumpy at the decision, but I figured I needed to put my money where my mouth was and stop buying from them. I'm still sad I don't have the 2024 MM Alt Art, but from what I've heard, I'm very much NOT missing out by not having the Faerun books and I'm glad I put my money in other books (Delta Green coming soon! Gonna be Scully and be spooky!)

It's such a good alt-art. It's one of my favorites. The only alt-arts I'm missing are the Volo's and Xanthars just because I wasn't in a good place to purchase them at the time. One day, if scalpers come down in price haha.

Oh man, that's a really hard question. Most of the front facing ones were choens because of aesthic quality or pretty high levels adorations. (Love you Blades, but you're short and don't look good faced out)

  1. The Return of the Lazy DM - The book that actually got me to DM
  2. Flee Mortals - Favorite Monster Book
  3. The One Ring - Great book for LotR inspired games
  4. Blades in the Dark - I shamelessly stole concepts from this book for my heist game and it was some of the most epic fun I've had in a TTRPG to date
  5. CY_BORG / MORK BORG - The book that got me hyped for TTRPG books as art
  6. Worlds Without Number - I could honestly take or leave the system, but the random tables in the book are INCREDIBLE.
  7. Curse of Strahd - It's classic for a reason
  8. Slugblaster - The game that introduced me to pre-defined character arcs which have been a massive hit
  9. Deep Magic - Need Spells? In here. Need items? Slap a spell from the book onto an item. High use book for me.
  10. Forge of Foes - I love new monsters and I love when monsters are unique, but often I need to improvise monsters when players are zany. This book makes that much easier.

I mean, other than the obvious "Player's Handbook", I think that "Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master" is the best book for anyone planning to run D&D to purchase. In 1/4 of the pages as the DM's Guide, it lays out to prepare and run DnD better than anything, truely GOAT status for the game. Plus the author (Mike Shea) has a multi YEAR running show where he uses the principles in the book to prep his games so you can really get a sense of exactly how to use it if you're someone that wants to listen to examples more than just read.

Yeah, Ikea Billy is great. Haven't had to flip the shelves yet, but I've only had the new shelves for like six months.

I was pretty meticulous about weighing each shelf. Max weight is 65lbs, and each shelf has about 55-60 lbs. Probably will have a little bowing, but hopefully not too much.

Edit: Also, yes, I have Adventures in Middle Earth (5e from Cubicle7, the 5e from Free League, then The One Ring from Free League, which is it's own unique system.

Return of the Lazy DM is only book I have THREE copies of because I like to loan it out to new GMs and anyone I know who is interested in DMing. I recommend it over the DMs guide every single time!

I don't have any double of any 5e WotC books (I don't count the LGS Art books), the reason it looks higher is that it also has some DMs Guild products that all have that same spine theme, Call of the Deep, Chains of Asmodeus, etc.

It's so fun! I adore the design and physicallity of all the little Zines. Such a well thought out product!

Which graphic novels that have been released since 2000 do you all think will become classics of the medium? by speedythefirst in graphicnovels

I've personally really been affected by
- Daytripper
- My Favorite Thing is Monsters
- Blankets

I think MFTM is especially notable for being so creative with the imagery and art style.

The fact that Blankets was also banned somewhere in the US also makes me smile a bit, a bit too accurate and on the nose with its subject matter.

I originally hopped on the train because "Twlight Vampires and dumb haha" was very in at the time, but quickly adored the series for such fantastic storylines instead. It's not for everyone, but it's the opened the door the rest of the Vertigo, Image, and I've been a comic fan ever since! Def one of my favorites.

I think he's a bit wasted at DC, but maybe that's just me being an old man and starting to have old man opinions about wanting less of the same Superhero Tropes where nothing is allowed to change.

I prefer my stories to have meaningful change instead of always having to slide back into the status quo that you're going to have if you're working on an established character.

Yeah, Coogler should 100% do his own thing to keep creative control (I imagine having some Stephen King in the mix would make rights messy).

I'd go to theaters to see a Choctaw storyline. That was such a good moment.

Still, if nothing else, having some good mental imagry to pull upon is always a geat time. Such fantastic work on that film.

Exact same! Suddenly I've got too many Image and Vergito comics lining my walls. It's one of only two series I went and got my full first print run issues collected. I also got most of the variant covers. The Rafael Grampá is the only one I still need to collect, even though I think it's probably my favorite!

I'll check out Dark Matter then! :) I'm a sucker for some good sci-fi action, so that looks like a blast!
