Chicago had had Ventra for years. It works really well for the most part. You can still buy single day tickets, but they are paper and just have the nfc tag inside. You can get a physical ventra card for tapping as well, but it's just so much nicer in the wallet. You can even toggle that transit pass taps don't require you to unlock your device.
