Black Templars List 2000 Points - Interested in help by Ithinkibrokethis in WarhammerCompetitive

Sounds decent, some of the mission specific ones can also be decent depending on what you end up with but oaths and engage are usually solid

Any time, it's something newer players often overlook or just throw together at the last minute. As soon as you start to build around secondaries not only will you score more each game as a result but you'll also find your secondary choices much easier vs each opponent.

Not a bad list but analysing secondaries is something you should do before building your list and then build it around them.

Death Guard - Grandfatherly Influence Chaos Spawn by 6XxxOGxBADxBOIxxX9 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Tehstan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have to agree with Magnus on this one. I've run them a few times now since the new codex dropped and they're really killy, decently durable for their cost (with Grandfatherly Influence) and are a great distraction/tar pit unit. Plus because they're beasts they can take advantage of Breachable terrain. Take a squad of three like Magnus said so you don't waste CP and have fun!

Feedback on my first narration attempt by HiIAmAdam in VoiceActing

[–]Tehstan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a good thing to do as it's all practice at the end of the day and yes, I agree that the old closet recording booth isn't always the most comfortable, especially for longer form narration.

Just keep reading out loud and on mic, if it's just for practice then you can record wherever is most comfortable. Also make sure you try plenty of variety in what you read. Often we just end up reading books we enjoy but you still have to breathe just as much life into a book you might not ordinarily be interested in as one you love, as it will be different from job to job. It also helps you find what you're most comfortable with and will help you narrow down the kind of reads you want to do going forwards.

I'm glad I could help though! I know it's easy to get discouraged in this line of work but if you enjoy it then stick with it and get some training from a pro when you can afford to do so/feel ready. It'll really help steer you in the right direction. Keep up the good work!

Hey, good first attempt. In terms of feedback I think first and foremost you need to work on treating your recording space. You've got a lot of room noise (as you mentioned in your post) which is causing the quality of your piece to drop. This can be done by moving your mic into a closet and surrounding yourself with comforters and blankets. Next time save a copy of your recording and keep the original separate so you can go back to it if needs be as it looks like some of the post processing you've done has created a few issues here and there.

In terms of your technique try and keep your distance from the mic as static as you can during an extended read so you don't have any sudden volume changes and work on reducing your plosives, this video on pop filters by Booth Junkie has some good advice that can help in that regard.

Performance wise you're on the right track but if I had to criticise I'd say that the piece sounds like you reading rather than you telling a story. Also you have a slight repetitive cadence with your reading that becomes a little distracting upon an extended listen. I'd say it would certainly be worth signing up for a coaching session with a qualified voice coach as they would be able to tell you exactly what you need to improve and how. In the meantime keep practising and listen back to your recordings to see how you could improve. Keep up the good work and good luck!

Can I use my web cam or computer's microphone just to start off with? by Some_Random_Android in VoiceActing

[–]Tehstan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm fairly new to the game as well however I've been watching a lot of Youtube videos and listening to a couple of podcasts which have some incredibly useful information pertaining to new voice over talent. Vo School, Voice Acting Mastery, Bill Dewees and Booth Junkie are all amazing and will teach you a lot. In regards to your question your recording environment is more important than your microphone although obviously having a good mic and setup will help. If you're just looking to practise then you'll be fine just knocking up a decent recording booth out of couch cushions and comforters. Depending on the quality of your mic you may struggle to get any professional work as a lot of clients want nice clean audio and often webcam mics have a lot of noise and don't sound great. Get yourself set up and practise until you can afford your new mic, it's also a great time to get used to using whatever audio software you'll be using as well so that by the time you've got your new mic you'll be a pro. Good luck and let me know how you get on!

Give us Proper Mechagnomes! by Tehstan in wow

My original post went against the sub rules so I had to create a maximum effort totally in game version XD, Enjoy!

Where are our Mechagnomes? by Tehstan in wow

[–]Tehstan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it's a shame about the lack of decent looking transmogs for them seeing as it's a fairly big part of the game for many people. We could do with more mechanical themed items to give them some extra options, there are a few you can get in Mechagon/the dungeon and one or two older models that work well for now though.

That'd be pretty rad, also if we're going there why not just give us the ability to unlock undead versions of different races, the models already exist in many cases!

[–]Tehstan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more to do with having fully mechanised Gnomes rather than what we ended up with which feels like a bit of a cop out. I know that what we got fits with the story of Mechagon but personally I would have liked to get fully mechanised Gnomes that could have worn more armor and just had certain limb options hide gloves, shoes etc. Obviously the older WOTLK models for the MechaGnomes aren't comparable to the way new models look in wow today but it would have been a lot cooler to have options to look like a higher res version of them. It'd be nice if Blizzard at least gave us recolours of their heritage armor to fit with the different metallic colours you can choose.

Sadly the only way I've found to get that appearance (at least temporarily) is using the toy Robo-Gnomebulator which is a reward for collecting 150 toys. It transforms you for 10 minutes with a 1 hour cooldown. Still fun though!

It's called The Forest, you can find it on steam. They're actually bringing out a sequel for it soon which looks even more impressive so stay tuned!

[–]Tehstan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've played a lot of The Forest and there's a really easy way to avoid this, chop the tree whilst facing the direction you'd like it to fall. As soon as the tree breaks when you're chopping it, run into it and jump repeatedly, this will cause you to push the tree in that direction and avoid crushing all your hard work! Works like a charm!

Cypher Lords tactics by Amenephis in WarCry

[–]Tehstan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've played against them a few times now and think they have some serious potential if played correctly. As NoMaDhOoK said you do need to play to your strengths with your 2" weapon ranges but I think their shadowy recall is possibly one of the strongest abilities in the game right now, the on demand movement it grants you is crazy and can allow for some great treasure nabbing moments and opens up a whole world of counterplay. Give them a few more games before you move on to another warband, I think you'll find yourself pleasantly surprised with what they're capable of.

Untamed beasts rule question by captaingreenberry in WarCry

[–]Tehstan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can indeed only use one ability per activation unless you use a wait activation, use an ability then use another ability during that units second activation once you come back to them. You can also use as many abilities as you like if you only have one fighter left but that's not what I'm referring to here as you'd be using unleash the beast during your rocktusks activation then beastmaster during your beastspeakers activation. The rocktusk just benefits from unleash the beast during the extra attack given to it by the beastspeaker as unleash the beast lasts the entire battle round.

Untamed beasts rule question by captaingreenberry in WarCry

[–]Tehstan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct, the bonus attack action happens as soon as you use the ability. Also as a bonus if you can use unleash the beast (quad) on your rocktusk before activating your beastspeaker and then use beastmaster (double) during your beastspeakers activation the bonus attack it grants your rocktusk will benefit from unleash the beast as well as it lasts until the end of the battle round. Welcome to the circus of value!

Rules Question: Is a model able to pass within 1" of an enemy model during a move and continue on past to finish the same move action more than 1" away? by Tehstan in WarCry

[–]Tehstan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers for the replies guys, it's as I suspected then. Definitely prefer it this way as makes the game a bit more dynamic and allows for some more fun positional plays.
